  2. Guess there were a "few" wipe-outs. Not sure about the full gear when swimming.

Australian motorbike stunt rider Robbie Maddison has done the unbelievable: riding an actual motorbike in huge surf off Teahupoo in Tahiti, catching waves, and surviving.

  3. Cabela's was well stocked with 22LR this morning. I guess the shortage is finally past. How many years? Grabbed some Winchester 40gr HV. That will probably go first. Well stocked on other ammo also. Saw a deal on PNW 300BLK 147gr range.

  4. That part about housing has been around for a while. Several states already take part in distributed housing. The power of the Fed is the threat of cutting off funding to the states. So at some point the states will just refuse, and take care of themselves without outside help. Not sure which ones, but some states have done so or threatened to do so.

That threat has real power, if it's a state that contributes more to the Fed than it receives.

Good intentions aside, tactics like this threaten to break the states apart.

And begging the question, won't this result in local governments, corporations and lenders doing the same thing? To either police their own house or to enable their ability to hide? We create our own monsters....

  5. Having had a lot of smaller bikes, I'd jump on a CB500F anytime. 500cc was the minimum for long distance "back-in-the-day". Always found that anything smaller simply freaked out when pushed down the road all day at road speeds. A 300cc is more for around town and a few occasional road trips.

I will admit that current motorcycles have more available power and durability than way back when.

Would I buy a 250/300cc? No, I won't be going back there (unless it's a dirt bike), but most of the 500cc bikes are attractive.

In the end it's what will be comfortable. Try them on for size.

  6. Any opinions on the Rock Island 1911s?

Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk

I thought reasonable thoughts about them, until a co-worker got a lemon from them.

It went back and got fixed or replaced, but it was a hassle and cost money to do so.

  7. Drop ship from grabagun.com in Texas to FFL of your choice.

Lowest prices I've found anywhere. Usually free or $2 shipping.

On-line only, but at least you can check and compare rock bottom prices.

Low prices, but good luck finding popular items in stock. They go quick.

The lowest price 1911s sometimes have to go back for lack of quality control.

Somewhere higher priced 1911s are a better choice.

Remington-Rand made more 1911s in WW2 than Colt.

Springfield made 1911s prior to WW1.

Many (if not most) current 1911s are forged frames and slides produced by Imbel in Brazil.

edit: quick history of mil-spec 1911:

  8. Suddenly reminded that the old bikes didn't even have a front brake activated brake light. Only the rear.

Suddenly remembering that the rear brake is used to show brake light.

Suddenly aware that situational awareness is important, and too many riders won't look behind them.

Suddenly wondering where this goes. Auto pilot and sit back and read a book?

  9. I've always seen some one else run out of gas. Carrying spare fuel would be worth it, just so I don't have to drain some out of my tank for them. Quicker too. I do carry a 2.5 mini NATO jerry can in my Jeep. Dump it in the tank once and a while to keep a fresh supply. Probably should use Stabil in it. There is a blue marine Stabil that last longer, but using double regular Stabil is probably the same thing, maybe.

edit: Nope, Stabil Marine is for preventing ethanol damage. Not the same thing... but maybe better... does appear to be double strength.

  10. We are testing it at work. I haven't loaded it yet, but the guy sitting next to me has done so. It seems ok so far. That windows 8 orientation toward tablet and phone use of tiles has gone away mostly. When you hit the start button a program list will appear with small tiles to the right. I realize that the concept is a free upgrade, but I also wonder what is in the future for Microsoft revenues. They have to make money on this somehow. I also still consider the release to be in beta, a late beta, but that's where it's at in development. Seems a bit pushy to offer it this early. We will probably skip deploying windows 8 campus wide. Many businesses will probably also skip. That's a big part of where windows 10 is coming from. But... it has to be compatible with a wide variety of existing and older software to be successful.

I would say that if I had been stuck with a windows 8 computer, I would start planning on a time to take this. Or go backwards to windows 7. Windows 8 is annoying. I'll ask the co-worker to make a list of pros and cons. There was also something about the latest "free" offer that he was talking about, that I need to ask him for further clarification. It might have had a bit of a catch to it. Like no going back for free if you change your mind.
