  1. I've gone through a lot of different jobs. And each needed some more education to get each. I might not have needed education with my experience, but the combination of both works. Realize that technology advancements doubles knowledge every two years currently. It also means that much of current and previous knowledge becomes obsolete in about two years. That is something that society and the work place and educational institutions have not adjusted to yet. So expect changes. Edit: If someone told you ten or twenty years ago that you would have a tiny phone gps map directory assistance phone book typewriter computer tweet chat music and video player in your pocket today... you wouldn't have believed it. Tell that to a ten year old and they will say "what's a typewriter?"
  2. Yeep, low fuel light probably a coincidence. Check and record codes, reset computer by disconnecting battery. Test ride and check codes again. If problem still exists, fix code errors. If no code errors, panic. If my engine changed sound, I think I'd look at the air filter first.
  3. Yes, employers will still make mistakes. And per federal law, if that guy with 41 years experience has to train the kid... wrong in so many ways. But in 41 years, that guy should have put some time in on education also. Jobs aren't forever anymore. It's best to have a backup skill in order to survive.
  4. I read the entire story. Same age as my Father, who's short term memory is almost lost.
  5. I've seen that one. It's been a while though. Did you notice all the cars have front plates, but the van does not? Perhaps they knew about the camera/webcam watching the street.
  6. Yes, do apply for jobs that you are qualified for. It's your decision, not theirs. Regardless of what they ask for. If the job posting looks a bit odd, like it is asking for a bit too much, then go right ahead and apply. Seriously, employers have a habit of asking above the level they are actually looking for. For whatever reason. It's complicated, and would require a discussion solely about that. Conversely, you can apply for jobs that you are over-qualified for. But it will take a bit of convincing in the interview. Experience will continue to be more important than education. Examples of your work will always help to convince people. Certifications related to job function are more important than they used to be. Both education and experience can be picked up on most jobs. And I will admit that a two year associate's degree often works out better than a four year degree. (And a lot cheaper.) And most of a two year degree can now be taken on-line at home.
  7. We don't have a headquarters. We'd have to rent one or borrow one for the day. Preferably one with a big park and water sports and and...
  8. Multiple times now, they've considered it. The latest is to try and split into 2 to 5 new states. Dunno... Seems to me they won't be doing much of anything if they are out of money and in debt. Same as Illinois, New York, and New Jersey is close to it. If they go bankrupt... do we have to sell them to the highest bidder?
  9. got it, I've been wrong about that. Maybe the federal is different in some way. But you're right, it's meant to prevent a 3rd party from wire tapping.
  10. Good eats, good cyclists, good cause Motorcyclists show they know how to party -- for a charitable cause
  11. Note: As far as I know, recording other people's voice without permission is a violation of Federal wiretapping laws, and is prosecuted. If recording, the first thing you should say, when spoken to, is "I'm recording" or something similar. So that it is very clear. Then you're safe, and it goes from there. No, I don't think people wandering through your home movies w/voice in the park can prosecute. Not that people haven't tried... In those cases it is obvious. That doesn't count. It is recording without knowledge that isn't allowed. Oddly, that isn't the case with law enforcement. They record all the time, and nothing is said about it.
  12. Yup, it will happen sooner or later if you ride a lot. Best to know what's going to happen beforehand. Also best to avoid situations that need that. note: do not practice on an 800 pound bike...
  13. Florida is different than other states, in that Florida requires the "other" state to honor the Florida CCW permit, if the "other" is honored in Florida. Works, but a bit strange when dealing with places like Alaska and Vermont, which have no regulations one way or the other. Alaska allows OC and CCW with no laws. Alaska passed a law related to Florida, just for Florida.
  14. I hadn't heard of any recent changes. The last I heard was that Florida both recognized Ohio CCW license, and would issue one to Ohio residents in Florida. Checking... This is from the Florida CCW application: ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS • You must be 21 years of age or older. • You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident alien with supporting documentation as provided in Question 5. • You must have received firearms training as described in Question 6. • You must not be ineligible based upon a disqualifying condition as specified in Questions 7 through 16 of the application. • You must desire a Concealed Weapon or Firearm License for the purpose of lawful self-defense. Any US citizen can apply for a Florida CCW permit.
  15. Texas cannot OC at all. Although they do have a new "open carry in vehicle" law. Texas CC is legal with permit. Ohio / Texas don't have reciprocity yet. Note: Texas law specifically does not permit "printing" of CC weapon. (Visible through clothing.) And... Texas is attempting to pass OC legislation.
  16. yeeeaaahhh, on a 3 or 4 day weekend. glw getting that fixed before Tuesday. (Somewhere a squirrel is happily chewing on your signal.) btw, just turned mine on to check. Mine works, heh. (Signal quality isn't the best though.)
  17. awwww, I think it's cute.... want one... Don't turn the engine over, drain and clean everything of fuel and gunk.
  18. Open carry is a cowboy. And even a cowboy would conceal when going into town. On the other hand, my choice of OC would be a quick draw drop rig. With a .45 long colt, either Colt or Schofield. Guess I'm a cowboy too. I've heard OC is typical in Texas, I wonder if that's true. edit: for those that don't know, "cowboy" is the loose term used by police to describe both police and civilians that don't stick to the ritual take down and encounter training. (Or even the gun handling procedures. I'm guilty.) Ergo, the cowboy wings it. There are lots of those. Cowgirls included.
  19. Real estimates are that up to 25% of men of age 25 to 55 are unemployed currently. Uncounted numbers of them took part time, went to school, gave up, or retired early. Under those conditions, employers can ask for a lot. Human resources departments also generally ask for more requirements than they can get. That way they can legally say no thanks. Confusing, because we're supposed to apply for jobs we aren't qualified for. edit: I laugh, I saw someone with a double doctorate working as a part time lab assistant....
  20. You're slower and closer to the ground when you crash, there is that. Stick with the lighter bike, till you figure it out. Anyone can wheelie, it's undoing the wheelie correctly that is difficult. Until you experience a few errors when the front wheel comes down, you won't know what it is like. It will be easier to recover from on the lighter bike. And less expensive to fix. If you lose the BP on the heavier bike, you might not be able to recover. IMHO: wheelies are highly over rated, and hard on the bike. Be prepared to spend money repairing damage. edit: I learned my fore/aft balance point by keeping the throttle moving. Sort of a fast chatter on the throttle position. Not freezing it in one position. (And cover the rear brake, yutugh.) I have no idea how anyone else does it, I taught myself.
  21. Thanks, I'll pass that on to someone that needs to hear that.
  22. The speculation about a stroke or seizure came from comments in one of the news articles. Commenter insinuated that the detail came from the surviving relatives. Yes, most of the investigators and EMTs believe the van spun, from impact or otherwise.
  23. I was at the Mustang airshow also. It's hard for me to pass up an airshow.
  24. News articles say that one detective has talked with the taxi van driver twice, in the hospital. But he won't say what information he obtained from the driver.
  25. What I mean by jaywalking, is that it can be a harassment charge, with no defense. OC may have a defense, but it can still be harassment, whether ignorant, deliberate, or simply a local law that doesn't comply with state.
