  1. I'd like to know what that was in what looks like Alabama. And there is at least one unknown detonation off the East coast of South Africa that no one ever claimed.
  2. I understand that, but the conditions still exist. It's the small businesses that are struggling, that aren't getting the economic aid they were "promised" or hoped they could get. I've seen scores of small business failures, during each recession. It's the way things work.
  3. Should I have said "For the individual citizen business owner, it's not enforceable."? I don't know where the line will be drawn as to who is doing business. Only the IRS will know that, and they don't know that yet. I foresee new jobs with the IRS.
  4. For the individual citizen, it's not enforceable. We don't have enough investigators to regulate. We'd all have to be hired as investigators of each other. Won't work. I have heard a rumor that this will slam PayPal and eBay transactions. edit: and that part about it's ok because they gave out small business loans? I've been helping a local business sort through the rulings, and it seems that the banks won't lend out the money earmarked for loans to small businesses. There is no profit in it for them, and a lot of risk. So they are sitting on the money and not lending it out. Another fail.
  5. Yeeeah, but I get the impression that if it starts in Blue Rock, everyone without a GPS won't show up. Welcome Rider
  6. Here is a $600 running parts bike in Indiana: http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/mcy/1847184029.html Another one in Indiana for $750: http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/mcy/1778117556.html And another one in Michigan for $875: http://flint.craigslist.org/mcy/1847730900.html Looks like complete restored water buffalos list to sell for $3000 to $4000
  7. Yeep, an incredibly different bike. I seem to remember that they were relatively bullet proof for the era. People could put a lot of miles on them, and top end rebuilds were simple. The sound they made was unique, being water cooled two stroke. Deputy Sheriffs that did escort duty got into them, and they were popular for that. At least in the central Ohio area, anyway. You should get two, to build one. The best way to find parts.

    Scam?

Somebody recently posted one of these, that they got as a response. We found eBay info about it. Meaning that PayPal and UPS and eBay just don't work that way. It's one of the current scams.
  9. I will say an old bike with drum brakes up front will not stop as fast as a Volkswagen beetle. Been there, done that. I slid sideways, close to going under the rear bumper, and somehow threw the bike onto it's other side and passed. (ok, I know how, but it's a long story)
  10. ack, I said waterproof. that's not true. The word is water resistant. Nothing is water proof. edit: what serpentracer said, Nelson-Rigg covers are the premium, and are probably the best available.
  11. The covers are waterproof and vented to let moisture out. But it's outdoors, and it's not perfect. But it does help a lot.
  12. I really have no business in this thread, but it needs to be mentioned that certain religions, societies and/or cultures have distinct feelings and emotions about suicide. Enough so that it should not even be mentioned in public, as a possibility upon a person's passing. Not everyone knows that.
  13. Again, if you missed it in the news where they won't talk about it... Various troops are shifting toward the Lebanon-Israel border this last week. This puts the UN troops and the French contingent of the UN troops in a position stuck between them. They recently have had convoys stopped and stomped in mini riots. The small towns are again being taken over as bases of operation for Hazbollah. (Or Hezbollah if you prefer.) This event happens during the summit meeting (Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Hezbollah) in the Lebanese capital, and might be only a show for those in the summit meeting.
  14. CoverMax or Dowco. That's the two basic covers. The Dowco costs more than the CoverMax. Either will be good outside for about two years. Large sportbike cover will fit. CoverMax p/n MCC00008 (10-7511 on the box) That cover fits them all except the largest bikes.
  15. You should have been able to stop in that distance, if you didn't hit it while sliding on the street. That doesn't stop near as well as using brakes. But glad you're ok. Now fix the bike back up, and don't do it again.
  16. Well, it would be nice of a bank performed a service. But instead it's more of a "method of parting you with your money". So don't think a bank is doing you any favors, they never are.
  17. Clowns to the left of me, clowns to the right... Jardine is making simple fender eliminators now. I bought one and might even get around to putting it on someday. The stock plate light moves to a new location. 99% of LEOs just want to read your plate. Don't make them angry...
  18. I had three of them. Two CL350 and one CB350. Liked them all. Too small now-a-days though. Kinda wish I could find a CL450.
  19. It is true that banks do not secure debit cards like they do credit cards. Both still depend on reporting the error and making a claim. Credit cards are limited to $50 loss, if notified within 60 days. Debit cards are limited to $50 loss, if notified within 2 days. Debit cards are limited to $500 loss, if notified between 2 and 60 days. Debit cards are wide open only if not reported within 60 days, and credit cards are the same. A limit can be set on debit cards, just like credit cards. I get the impression very few banks or people do that. Also, some banks are way better at noticing and asking about transactions. Make sure they have your current cell phone number so they can contact you. At this point it's probably not making much of a difference, whether your debit or your credit card is scanned. The card transactions are currently about half credit and half debit, and increasing on the use of the debit cards. Mostly because it's cheaper for retailers if we use the debit, and retailers are pushing us that way. The PIN number is an additional safety measure, but not for long when attacked by technology. Neither can be used on-line without more information. Unfortunately, the answer is to spend cash or checks. That combined with not using your cards as often, or along freeways, or in questionable places. Also, I've noticed that in Florida, they always ask for identification to confirm the signature on your card. I suspect retails in Ohio are supposed to do that also, but skip it. edit: oh, and snooping gear hidden in a van is old hat, and too hard for the average thief to set up and use. Don't worry about that, for a while... Current methods are way too easy, till those pumps get locked down better. edit2: I just thought of those prepaid cards. I suppose that's the banking industry's lazy answer for the problems.
  20. dang, that www.theoildrum.com is a good link. I was wondering about the plumes off to the sides of the borehole. They say that those are maybe 0.5ppm, which is so low we could probably drink it ok if it was fresh water. We could probably smell that small of an amount. edit: btw, I'm astounded by media that talks about the horrendous pressures of the well and flow. Durrrr.... it's at great depth in the ocean, which is great pressure comparatively. Granted that if that pressure were released at the surface of the ocean, it would probably shoot out into space and try to move the entire planet. But that's not the way it works at depth, it expands relatively slowly in volume instead.
  21. Is there an echo in here? There are little lights on plate bolts that will illuminate your plate. Two will do it.
  22. Remote reading a card scanner isn't easy. Skimming with an extra reader and blue tooth connection is super easy. So they do the easy. The credit card offers the protection, but I'm not sure if the debit cards are even targets. I'm thinking that it is the credit cards that are targets. More money usually available on credit than debit, I suppose.
