    03/22 Ride

I don't work on Fridays, I think I'll ride one like this and see how it goes. Except I'm thinking of stretching it out a little farther to more like 225-250 miles minimum.
  3. No kidding, I seldom get to use WOT. Nor even get up into the power band much. It will hold with most of the sport bikes, and even pull on them out of the corners, but will never corner as well. (Not as much ground clearance, and no rear sets.) I hear they do fairly well with rear sets on them. I was not in the mood on Sunday, with the road conditions as they were.
  4. There are two or three aftermarket screens that fit up just fine on the Hornet. I think the Buell screen is one of the stock screens that fits. 919 street fighter stuff: http://www.whaccessories.com/Honda919Accessories.htm
  5. I just heard tell that many do not know what type of bike that old dude was riding on Sunday (nor who the old dude was); It be me. It is a 2002 Honda 919 (CB900F) also known as a Hornet in Europe. It is a STANDARD, not a cruiser, not a sportbike. (like a Norton Commando, or Kaw1000 old style.) edit: ok, it can be called a naked sport, or a muscle bike, but the rider position is old school Standard. It is a Fireblade engine.
  6. Bad news, Honda doesn't sell the flyscreen anymore. Good news, I found a place in Florida that makes them in all different colors. I bought two of them, they are identical to the Honda stock screen. Bad news, they don't come with brackets, or holes drilled. You have to make your own. The place in Florida claims to make stock replicas for every motorcycle ever made.
  7. On the other hand, did I hear the name NinjaNick is now available?
  8. Willkommen, Freund. Ich bin beinahe deutsch. Aber mein Deutsch ist nicht gut.

  10. How's that, quoting myself... You got mine wrong on page one, it's one medium and one small. And since you're changing it anyway, make it one medium and TWO small.
  11. That was the 278 from 56 to Nelsonville - 33. It was pretty much all sand, except for the car tire tracks were sort of free of heavy sand. Road sand from Winter. And it had this odd reddish color. Which was probably rust, from all the salt. That's the road past those old kilns in Nelsonville. The road we took last year, after leaving that Speedway in Nelsonville.
  12. me too (moi aussi) - one medium & one small
  13. Probably could drill and helicoil the swingarm for new threads. Whatever the previous length of threads in the swingarm were, it will be just as strong if the same length of threads is replaced with a helicoil. When you get the swingarm off, stick straight rods through pivot and wheel axle locations, stand back, and see if they are parallel. Got to check for bent or twisted swingarm. Or just buy one, 150 bucks is cheap enough. The sprocket should be checked real close, for bent or cracked teeth. I'd be tempted to just get a new one for that also.
  14. The entire GS500F front fairing goes for about 142 bucks at discount plus shipping. (and it's already yellow) The swingarm is about 153 discount plus shipping, 50-100 bucks used. New bearings (4) for swingarm if needed, maybe 44 bucks. Plus all the little pieces; chain, sprocket, turn signals, etc. the oil cooler looked ok, and the tank is ok? Maybe 500 bucks total. Most bikes just fall over and cost more than that... Make a list of all the parts needed. Start checking ebay and the central ohio motorcycle junkyards for parts. I just buy new at discount mail-order. 3 or 4 weeks and it can be back riding again.
  15. Ummm, come to think of it... my insurance company covers everyone for an additional month past expiration date, if you're paying for a year of coverage. I'd just renew, and if any challenge, state the obvious; "I had 30 days to renew, I did renew, and I was covered continuously by the existing policy".
  16. Yeah, big displacement scoots are a hot item now. At least they were last year. Remember? All the 500cc and 600cc scoots sold out early on.

BTW, us 5 that split out, that was a very large swarm of gnats we ran through. Thick as rain. Splattered all over the helmet. We each thought the bike in front of us had an oil leak going. Greasy little gnats....

Magnas are sport cruisers. They got the extra lean in them. And the V-4 has the punch. I like them. Wish I had one.

Exactly, that's route 60 South of Zanesville. Bumpy to the extreme. 78 is still wonderful. Hope it stays that way.

    03/22 Ride

Us that left after Nelsonville lunch, finished up with 170 some miles. We got stuck for a while, behind the slowest darn batch of Harleys I've ever seen. Honestly, they almost stopped on one corner. Glad to hear the 78 and 60 went well. How was 60? Bumpy like usual? Or better now?
  21. Rep for you, well done. I can gut dead equipment at work and built that one. I might need it, I'm thinking of adding or switching to LEDs for turn signal/running lights.
  22. We answered this one a couple of months back. I can't find the thread yet. Yes, it is illegal, with certain exceptions. One earphone is ok. If they are built-in to the helmet it's ok. (who knows, don't ask) Duty equipment. (police, EMT, firemen, fighter jock using the road as a runway) Hearing aids. Earplugs to protect hearing suffer the same rules, only one at a time. I'll try to add the previous thread link. Or the Ohio revised code that covers it. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4511.84

Sounds interesting. Who knows what the ReconRat will do...
  24. My first bike, a little Honda vertical twin. I used to rip corners and dump it. Mostly on purpose. (Easy to do back then, the tires had no stick.) It never hurt it much, and I learned how to lay it down gently, and roll off, spin around, and slide feet first. Used up a lot of jeans, wallets, pocket combs, etc. Ground them off my butt. Used to stuff paper in my back pockets. Stranger yet, we used to wrap rags around our knees for touching pavement. You just don't know what you were missing. At least it didn't cost near as much as now. Beyond that, just a couple of sudden stops, or parking lot errors. Caught most going down, but not all. I did flip a scrambler end over end once, but considering it landed on it's wheels and kept going without me, I might not count that one either. So not all of them are down, two of mine were up, heh... Yeah, I used to get airborne, on purpose or not. I even dumped one scrambler going backwards. I startled myself so bad, I took off in reverse. Try that sometime. Oh yeah, bell bottom jeans or boot cuts aren't compatible with kick starters. I jammed one down over my kick starter once, at a stop light. I fell over before I could think what to do about it. Must have been funny to see. Back-in-the-day... people used to reach over and quietly lock the doors on the car, when a motorcycle was around them. Now-a-days youse guys don't stick around long enough to see that.
  25. I used to. But found out that road salt is not my friend. I skip January and February. Not missing much. Get a second bike, a used off road or dual sport that doesn't mind falling down. Ride that all Winter long.
