  1. Yes, but... the distance between the two sprockets will not stay the same. It won't move much, the stock chain should still work. I'd have to do the math to know for sure how much. It's because the changes in sprocket diameters isn't really the same. In other words, going down two on the front is a bigger change than going up two in the rear, making the rear axle move to the rear. I got an Excel spreadsheet somewhere that I wrote, that calculates that change of distance for me. No it wasn't easy. Fun with on line sprocket and chain calculators: http://www.compgoparts.com/TechnicalResources/SprocketCalculator.asp http://www.gearingcommander.com/ http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/SprocketOptimizer2.aspx
  2. Now I remember, it's more on the touring. Here's another: by Nick Ienatsch " Sport Riding Techniques: How To Develop Real World Skills for Speed, Safety, and Confidence on the Street and Track " David Bull Publishing | Pages: 128 | 2003-03-01 | ISBN: 1893618072 | 58 MB http://www.4shared.com/file/32096061/41cc3e02/SportRidingTechniques.html?s=1 or http://rapidshare.com/files/94808938/SportRidingTechniques.pdf

It might be more on the basic side of things. Or it might be a cruiser type book.
  4. yw, yeah, I got some sort of odd ability to do internet searching... btw, I'd buy two, one of each brand or something, or two from that one guy, save on shipping. You never know, might not ever see them again.
  5. I laugh, because I have three different computers logged on to Ohio-Riders, and I never log out. (*sound of tiny bubble bursting*)

Don't know the Sprocket Specialist brand.
  7. Yeah, side covers break easy. If they were painted, and aren't broken, 15-20 bucks each, the last time I looked on eBay. Several years ago. The stock blue ones are hard to find. Side covers don't weigh much, and do allow quick access to stuff underneath them. And that shape of the side cover on a 550F is like a signature trademark. And yeah, you probably will need the carb boots for the pod filters. A proper size chunk of radiator hose might work better. Doesn't the pod kit come with that stuff? I'm trying to remember what your stock bike looked like. I suppose a second seat wouldn't be a bad deal either. I got doubles on fenders and stuff already.
  8. I got a CB550F, but already have 2 seats and 3.5 tank/side cover sets. (blue, orange, black and one that leaks) I wouldn't mind having those rubber parts and clamps that are between the carbs and the airbox. But there are several different airbox setups, not all work. Mine is the late model four individual rubber air connectors, with 4 clamps. Try fishing a pull line through the bars, and wrap and tape it around your wires, and pull them through. Use the tape to make the wires pointy, but still flexible. Edit: throwing those parts away is wrong, at least sell them on eBay.
  9. Our CCW instructor said use paddle holsters here in Ohio. The reason is that it's easy to remove or put back when getting in and out of a car. Because of our slightly wierdo law requirements. If you have to get out of the car, and stand there removing stuff to get your rig off, you are actually in violation of displaying that firearm in public, and could be in trouble if somebody freaks and calls the cops. A couple of the guys bolted lock boxes on the floor to transfer to. I didn't think I'd like a paddle, but it feels ok and works well. I like the Fobus paddles for certain firearms. Paddles don't cost a whole lot, but a universal IWB is ok too. If a firearm can possibly fall out of a holster, it will sooner or later. A strap, snap, or other retention device is good. And yup, a firing line is not the place to be pointing firearms at somebody else. We were taught weak hand draw, as if we were wounded, but it's been dropped since it requires rolling your firearm across your belly to do the transfer. It kinda points everywhere, depending on who's doing it. (Part of the ReconRat test of a firearm, is to see if it will fire upside-down. Sometimes on cheap pistols, the slide will fall off on the first shot. It thinks you are dis-assembling it. FAIL.)
  10. Not a lot of good sources for lefties (me too) Bianchi Uncle Mike's Galco Safariland Blackhawk Fobus Lonestar Holsters Gunmate Magnum Research military issue stuff http://www.copsplus.com/shoulderholsters.php Don't forget that a good holster needs to handle the harsh elements of daily use:
  11. Keep a shop vac nearby, to pick up the old gasket pieces. Rags to keep stuff falling down in where you can't get at it. Something always gets in. Drain it out with the oil. If you turn the engine sideways, stuff falls off, not in.
  12. 1. Dunno that engine. 2. I've used scotch-brite, but a slip with a screwdriver or other too hard scraper and you could create a permanent oil leak. Some people swear by a scraper made of hardwood. You can hammer a piece of copper pipe flat and sharpen it. That's softer than the aluminum engine, but harder than the old gasket. Permatex and others make a gasket remover liquid. There are nylon wheels for dremels and drills that are safe. I won't even say what I use for a gasket removal tool, it's too easy to make a mistake with it. 3. What 1fasttc said. But you assemble all those parts that will be oiled, with a good coating of oil. Yes, non-synthetic for engine break-ins. It's mostly a requirement for the proper seating of the piston rings. Don't know if there are other reasons.
  13. Gunshows are good. You get to see everything in one place. I like the Bill Goodman gun shows. The closest to me used to be in the Hara Arena in Dayton. Cheapest prices found anywhere, on everything. And lots of used stuff also. Look for and try to get 40% off full retail (MSRP). It appears that there is also one at Dayton Airport Expo now. News to me. I also see that a gun show is scheduled in Franklin Veterans Memorial Hall in downtown Columbus. I haven't seen one there since Columbus chased all the collectors (OGCA) out back in the late 80's.http://www.gunshows-usa.com/ohio_gun_shows.htm And to actually answer a question as asked, Eagle Imports Inc distributes Bersas in the USA. 14. Bag of worms there... You probably mean what type of round for a given caliber. But it's a many part question. (Multiple bags of worms) I would go with the Federal studies on that subject. Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness FBI Firearms Academy Training Unit http://www.firearmstactical.com/hwfe.htm http://www.firearmstactical.com/pdf/fbi-hwfe.pdf They say penetration (minimum of 12 inches), and bullet diameter. Any other factors are a bonus. Various charts and articles on the internet will give an indication of what's effective: http://www.chuckhawks.com/handgun_power_chart.htm http://www.firearmstactical.com/afte.htm http://www.handguninfo.com/Archive/www.Pete-357.com/one.shot.stops.htm http://branson-springfield-private-security.blogspot.com/2008/02/there-is-no-magic-bullet.html Any way you look at the question, it is accuracy that is more effective. Read the five rules for concealed carry: http://www.firearmstactical.com/
  15. That right there is impressive. I guess that means it is a decent service grade firearm.
  16. All good points Max, and that over rides any other considerations. Safety first. Most of the gun shops consider the Bersas to be good low cost firearms. That must mean people aren't finding faults and returning them. So I withdraw any objection to Bersa. Even with all the safeguards, Ohio law probably says the loaded magazine has to be locked up if there are kids in the house. Dunno. I haven't thought much about that since the newer laws have been enacted. Now I have to go look it up somewhere. edit: looked it up... Ohio does not have what is called a Child Access Prevention Law. Some cities might have such laws. Although I'm sure that if a child obtains an improperly stored, loaded gun, the adult owner is criminally liable.
  17. List of dimensions for small CCW http://www.smallestguns.com/ Rugers are good, but 380 sux 9mm is small which is good, but Bersas sux How about a Kahr PM9 (or P380 for .380) or a Kal-Tec P-11 (or PF-9 for .380)? There's nothing wrong with most of the new names in firearms. The introduction of modern CNC machining and fresh tooling makes many of the new companies very competitive. Personally I still like wheel guns, J-frame and 5 shot 45LC frames. No thinking required. Tokarevs (7.62x25mm) are cool, they are very very thin in width, but have a short 3-finger grip. Which makes a Makarov (9x18mm) interesting. Lower cost choices. Go bigger and I like 45ACP like a Colt Officer or Commander. I still like single stack magazines. just sayin

You'll need to find a way with various software to edit out the portion you want before converting. Assuming that you wanted an animated gif, of course.

BTW, the national opinion used to be that the Columbus inner belt was the second worst in the country, with Wheeling, West Virginia being the worst. Then that part over by the main post office got re-done. I wonder who is the worse freeway now.

Dang, I forgot about that one. I live East, and have been through that one many times. I actually think it's fun... Make a hole! Changing four lanes here! Gang way! Coming through! tyvm Once you've had practice on that one, it's easy. But it's no doubt very scary for approaching traffic. If you ever see some one hesitate on that entrance, look out. They have to match or exceed the speed of the approaching traffic or it won't work.

If you know Columbus freeways, you will know that stretch of I-70 East is covered with the ghosts of dead people trying to go North. There used to be accidents all the time, both East and West along that area of I-70. Sort of like the Broad Street ramp on I-71 South, and wanting to go East on I-70. Scary stuff that.
