  1. Worse, in some cities or states, any sort of body armor is illegal. Most are written as "when in use during commission of a felony". edit: or use of a firearm, whatever. edit: In Ohio it's "violent felony" 2941.1411 Offender wore or carried body armor specification.
  2. Seen in an article from Asheville NC: Bulletproof Backpack Sales Soar After Elementary School Shooting
  3. ok, you really really don't know anything about statistics or logic. edit: probability is a sub-set of statistics.
  4. Point: having called for simple armed security for our children everywhere, the blame shifts to those that refused, should something ever happen again. Like he said, we guard our money and everything else. Why not the kids? Columbus already has off duty or on duty police in the schools as necessary.
  5. It was one title that split itself into the appearance of two. Attempted edit. I'm inclined to stick with the original for AR. Piston is what is found in AK. I'm inclined to leave that alone also. edit: btw, that's a nice set of articles you've linked to at survivalcache
  6. American Rifleman short story: both work, but piston is attempting to fix what wasn't broken in the first place. Something new will probably come along in the future. AR Operating Systems: Gas Impingement vs. Piston - Can the gas-piston AR system overtake the longest serving military rifle, or will the gas impingement system soldier on? edit: piston is cleaner, but the bolt group is technically designed for impingement, not piston.
  7. looks like that brief rain was about 1 to 1.5 inches. That would have been a sudden 4 to 6 inches of snow if it had been colder. edit: and, lights flickering. But power still on. I hate Winter.
  8. Somebody will be able to use it. We had a previous thread about the "high" and "low" front rails, and which sights would work. But yeah, front sights are almost all metal because of the heat. There were some links to a couple of websites that showed both types. You'll be able to match your rear sight with probably several of those. Or start over. here, this thread: http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=100849&highlight=rail
  9. Glad I'm not riding right now. High winds with ice coming down. That was a definite down burst. Didn't hear any trees cracking and going down anyway. That crap was so loud I couldn't hear anything inside the house. Guess I'll go look outside... edit: ok, add lots of rain and some thunder. It's going to be fun if this freezes tonight And those plastic trash cans people left out? They're in the next county by now.
  10. Huffington Post Adam Lanza's Motive: Did Fear Of Being Committed Lead To Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting? (UPDATE)
  11. It looks like snow off and on from 1am Friday morning to 1am to 4am Saturday morning. Most of Ohio except maybe SouthWest. Includes West Virginia. No good guess on amount. Expect 1 to 4 inches and some drifting maybe.
  12. Sheep, guard dogs, and wolves. Pick one. Choose wisely.
  13. I've had mine shut off occasionally in cold weather. It kicks back on in a couple of seconds. I blame the computer/fuel injection if it's running okay before and after the event. What I didn't like was it shutting off in a lazy corner when I was reaching across to adjust the right mirror with my left hand. Zingo. Think fast.
  14. If it comes to that, yes it would. Watch closely and deal with it before it happens. But like I said, I don't think it will go that far. Maximum might be FFL transfer. Which is ok anyway.
  15. Actually, from what I've read today. One of the probably unobtainable goals is to eliminate resell of semi-autos. At least military look semi-autos. Meaning it could not be sold, transferred or inherited. Destroyed when you die. Not likely to go that far.

    AR-15 or?

Waiting for the overloaded link to open... still waiting... zzzzz ..... ok, nice musket. Congrats. I'm not a big fan of that particular front hand guard, but those change easily enough. What for sights. It already has sights? That front sight is probably a gas block and pinned. Harder to change that. Unless it's on a rail or something. edit: I'd put it back to some type of M4 carbine hand guard. And skip the front grip.
  17. well, guns are evil evil evil. Either that, or people that say that are evil evil evil. Pick one.
  18. AG Says He Supports Arming At Least 1 School Staff Member To Be ‘First Responder’ At the option of the schools themselves. Shooter Training For Teachers DeWine: Schools should consider arming employee
  19. That's the way it was the last time, but not sure what is happening now. Yet.
  20. Do not buy and fire .38cal +P cartridges through that firearm. Too old if nothing else. Start with some nice target or round nose stuff.
  21. We just went past 8000 Ohio Riders members. I missed it, but there it is. A bunch. When's the party?
  22. I draw estimates based on logic. Those will change as data is received. Since no factual information is available on small odd objects in far solar orbit, the odds are 50% to 50% that such a thing would be there. That's how logic works. I R engineerd.
  23. I ninja edited. Although said edited. See above. The odds of guessing at odds without information as to the odds is futile.
  24. LOL! The probabilities of one being there is probably pretty high. Odds of finding it...not so much. edit: The realities are, quoting US law isn't realistic sometimes, unless there is a fair understanding of that law. What I've been reading is scattered throughout most of all US law including Supreme Court decisions. Hint: In part, it's also the reason that the draft(conscription) during the Vietnam War was found to be legal when challenged.
  25. And I want you to figure it out for yourself.
