  1. I heard VERY good things about Hord, which was partly why I felt a bit better that the motor had a rebuild. The only thing I need to do to the bike to get it on the road is get some plates (title is coming to me), get a new rear tire (should be here tomorrow), and get a windscreen and some oil for later. apparently, it uses some really special magic oil that costs $15/liter. thankfully, it takes less than 2 liters, but I might try to install a oil cooler on that biatch to ease my fears of it being starved of oil. yay
  2. I'm not sure what all was done to the motor by Hord before the failure (if anything at all). The motor's main bearings failed, and crapped up the cylinder wall, and some other stuff. Hord rebuilt the motor to stock with OEM parts and apparently did a damn good job cause cause the dyno shows a healthy number and when I test rode it, it ran nice and smooth. Not too concerned about the dyno number, but Pete showed me all the receipts for the parts he bought and the work sheet from Hord showing the work they did. The other nice thing was, it had all the recall stuff done (gauge cluster, turn signal stuff, etc) already so I dont have to worry about taking it to the dealer. From what I understand, Ohio Motorcycle in Oakwood near cleveland is the local KTM dealer. I've been there before to check out the ducati stuff, but didn't really pay much attention to the KTM stuff at the time.
  3. please let the "Under New Management" sign be FIM approved sealer/top coat
  4. next time, pass him on one wheel while blowing him a kiss
  5. if you like the XR platform, I think you'd be better off selling the 650L and finding a decently built xr650R. I know there is one in the cleveland area, and there was a NICE one in PA but that's sold. if you are emotionally attached to the 650L then mod her up!
  6. haha naaah, i'll probably just bring it along every once in a while. definitely will be riding it around on the street though.
  7. yeah, that played a small part in the deciding between a husky and ktm... the closest husky dealer to me is in columbus (2.5 hrs). the ktm dealer (the one you mentioned) is much closer at 45 minutes away. now i have to figure out how to soften this thing up a bit. apparently, it's set REALLY stiff to accommodate the racing setup, and also to account for the pirelli slicks which apparently have a very soft and flexible carcass. I would never notice things like this, but I'll take his word for it. I'll be putting on a PP2CT front and something in the rear (not sure yet). i'm just starting to read up on this thing called "backing it in". sounds scary lol
  8. 30mpg highway? sweet succulent 5.6lb baby jesus
  9. I figured I'd better report in after I made the purchase. I ended up with a 2008 KTM 690SMC. It was used as a race bike, riiiiiiiight up until the main bearings decided to grenade and scored up the insides pretty good. After checking out the rebuild info from the seller (an STT instructor and racer) and getting some second and third opinions from people who know better than me about these things... I picked it up. It came with a bazillion tires (that I can use on a future endeavor in SV650 endurance racing) and a bunch of spare parts (that I can use on future endeavors in crashing the shit out of it while learning how to ride a motard style bike), and is just baller in general. here she is the day I got her: here she is 5 hours after I got her cause I suck at wrenching and take forever to do anything: since it had slicks on it, I had to pop the wheels off and order some street tires. It should be good to go in a couple days after the tires get swapped.

speaking of under appreciated people, let's a give a hand to redbarron for singlehandedly breaking so many penii of OR members. without him, the NWS section would be a flaccid shell of its current self.
  12. yeah, buy my corbin (I never use it since my 03 600rr is track duty only). it's great for street riding. keep your oem seat for track days, as it is actually pretty much perfect to move side to side in.

    Do want!

what they don't show you is the poor bastard that is quietly driving away in his vette with a S2000 engine.
  16. hiya! I have a Valentine V1 for sale that I no longer need. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I purchased it new about a couple years or so ago. Lately, I've been turning into an old bastard, and don't speed anywhere anymore. I just don't care to. So, my trusty radar detector is for sale. Price is $300 firm. I bought mine new DIRECTLY from Valentine Research. It is not gray market. I guess I could post pictures, but there is basically no wear and tear since it's just been mounted to my mirror for the entire time i've had it. I have all the original accessories and box and wires, etc. Thanks!
  17. just out of curiosity, how come it got changed from femmoto? just an effort to consolidate the brands? or was femmoto a separate entity, and is now part of the larger sportbikeblahblahblah mega conglomerate?
  18. charlie sheen is the white rick james
  19. i'm thinking of doing an avatar one next time. i thought 2003 was the last year of the "sporty-ier" f4i, and then starting in 2004, it had the banananana seat with the more touring-like ergos. i could be wrong. i had an 01, which i loved, and i thought I remembered searching for an 03 before i bought the 01. too lazy to check lol
  20. i knew you would understand. it was rick roll or the ol' "that's why i want to be a pokemon master" gambit.

wow, i thought we had more "supporters" than that. i just figured the rest of the donators didn't notice the special forum. and here I thought our little group were just the cool kids in the short bus. anyways, thanks for getting it back up and running!
  22. i know i know, but i figured he would do well this year. i almost picked lorenzo, but i didn't want to be a complete cunt.
  23. i bought my 03 600rr with the expectation that it would be a good reliable appliance, to get me through crashes while I learn to pick up speed at the track while remaining competitive with even some of the newer bikes given similarly experienced riders. I went into it thinking i'd buy it, use it up, and toss it away like a microwave. Well, it did everything I expected it to, but I'm in love with the bike. I experienced my first track day, my first knee on pavement experience, my first (and 2nd and 3rd) crash at the track, my first "oh shit the rear tire is getting a bit slick" moment, and on and on and on... all without a hiccup (at least, nothing that I didn't induce from stupidity). the 600rr might not have a distinct "character" per se... but much like crazy hot bitches versus the attractive faithful smart girl with a good job and etc etc etc, you fuck around with the former, and marry the latter. the 600rr will always get you there and back, and it will be good at everything while doing it. between the F4i and the 600rr (in 03, they were pretty similar anyway) it is the quintessential "do it all while still being a supersport" bike. get to know that bike, and it'll never let you down, and you'll never want to give it up, Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you We've known each other for so long Your heart's been aching but You're too shy to say it Inside we both know what's been going on We know the game and we're gonna play it And if you ask me how I'm feeling Don't tell me you're too blind to see Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you (Ooh, give you up) (Ooh, give you up) (Ooh) Never gonna give, never gonna give (Give you up) (Ooh) Never gonna give, never gonna give (Give you up) We've know each other for so long Your heart's been aching but You're too shy to say it Inside we both know what's been going on We know the game and we're gonna play it I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
