  1. I just did this a few weeks ago and just used a dremel to grind off the rivets on the old chain, and used a screw-type master link on the new. They are not not what you think, there are no screws involved once it is finished. It is pretty much a riveted master link, but you don't need any special tools, it just uses nuts to mushroom the heads on the rivets. Every review I read about them were good and people had 8, 10 thousand miles on them with no problem. We'll see how it goes. If anyone uses one, just make sure you use the spacers like you would a riveted link, I learned that the hard way. Had to buy a second one because I cranked the first too much and put it on a bind. Used the spacers the second time and everything is good now.
  2. Welcome! I would recommend a cruiser, but I'm sure 99% of the people on this board would disagree. Get what you want and what feels right to you.
  3. I just got my tank and fenders back from Paul today, turned out awesome. Great painter and highly recommended. I'll post pics as soon as I get everything back together.
  4. that's freakin' great. Mine is Wrench Head of the White Werewolfes MC. Kinda fits.
  5. I give as much business as I possibly can to State Farm. I've got a bunch of policies with them(two cars, bike, house, insurance on camera equipment), and I've used them to finance my truck and my wife's car. Their bank will beat nearly any other quote you get, typically how they handle it is if you buy a car and get financed, they will beat the rate by at least 1 point. My wife had two small accidents (About $700 each in damage to other cars, non on hers), and they handled without blinking. My agency is super nice, anytime I have problems they are there to answer them. My rates for everything have never gone up in about 5 years, only down. I would use State Farm for every bill I have if I could, and I generally hate corporations. As for as the necessary evil of having insurance, I think most people can't go wrong by using State Farm.
  6. Recon, you are just full of handy dandy info. Not only do you answer questions, but you give the reasoning and technical data to back it up. I think that is just really cool of you to do. You've already helped me out a few times!
  7. Yeah, keep us updated, Sam. I hope he is doing better. Best wished to him and your family.
  8. I'm not against renting, but I own my house. Why? I like to build shit. I like gutting my bathrooms and redoing them completely. I built a deck, and a bar in my basement that looks like it belongs in a pub. I have a yard for my dog to play in, and a big garage to work on my bike. I could never do that stuff in a rented apartment or home. Now I can do whatever I want, when I want. It's increased the value of my house even in today's market, and I love to do it. My projects keep me sane. If I didn't love to make stuff with my hands, I might rent. When I decided to buy a house, I ran the numbers then bought something well under my price range, so I'm far from overextended, but I could see how people got in trouble. I have friends that were in the mortgage business and from what they have said, unscroupolous business practice was getting out of hand. We happen to live in a market more stable than most. Columbus never saw the giant gains other markets did, so we're not seeing as much losses. If I lived in Vegas or something, yeah, I would rent with out hesitation.
  9. I was riding in Columbus last year when the wind storm hit. I was on Linworth Road and there trees and branches falling all over the road, and I was dodging them left and right. Luckily I was close to home and got there before it got real bad. Not fun.
  10. Sambusa is always there to get a load off when things get tense.
  11. Welcome. I hang out in GC a lot at Roosters and Wings and Rings. A couple of will be riding there(not always back though) throughout the summer if you want to swing by.
  12. Next time, I promise. I've been practicing with some yogurt.
  13. Do I really want to get into this? I guess I do. 1. I wasn't even commenting on your bike. I was commenting on another post. I liked your bike the first time I saw it, I guess the bike still cool, but the rider is is trash. b. I'm pretty new here too, but before I starting posting, I read through the threads and got a feel of what the atmosphere was like. Do that before you start posting trash. Let people know you are okay before you start ragging on them, that way they know you you are just fucking with them. Learn to take it before you can give it. Maybe you are not just joking, maybe you are a straight up asshole. That's okay too, be all you can be, just don't expect to liked on this board. For all I know, I may not be liked, and that's cool too. 4. To me a rate my bike thread is a cry for attention. If you got a new bike, decals, or new pipes or something and wanted everyone to give their opinions, cool. Just don't expect everyone to gush over and say it's the greatest thing ever. We've all seen Gixxers, Shadows, Ninjas, Sportsers, etc. before. Bikes are cool, we love them all, that's why we ride. III. I'm gay because I have bags? I travel on my bike a lot, take weekend camping trips, ride for a few days at time. I don't want everything on my back, and don't to be cry about how my wrists hurt when I ride from Taco Bell to QSL. I don't brag about my bike, my riding skills, my clothes, or anything. I just ride. Not for you, not for anyone, just me. F. Watch you say about about peoples personal lives. I do happen to be going through a divorce right now, and if you would have said that about my to my face, I would knocked you the fuck out. 5. I hate this shit. I just want to chat about bikes and have fun. Don't fuck with me though. And how exactly to you take care of business? Wear a TCB hat?
  14. Not trying to be a dick, but I get the feeling that robgsxr1000 is fishing for compliments on his bike and wants us to tell him how awesome it is. I think it is a pretty sweet bike and normally I would rate it high, love the coloring and it is done up well, but something about this whole thread wants to make me give it a 1.
  15. I would be out if my bike wasn't in pieces scattered around the garage.
  16. Wow, I don't have the problem with Harley guys that you do. Maybe it's that they wave before they can see its a Honda cruiser. I've had hardcore bikers wave at me, and newbs that are wondering why the fuck I'm waving. More often than not its the sport bike guys that don't wave back to me. I wave at nearly everyone unless I'm on a divided highway, just forget or obviously, maneuvering and need both hands. I watched one guy try to wave at me while turning and nearly wipe out. Dumbass.
  17. I've had the 100-400 as well, one of the the best canon telephotos out there besides the big primes(big money). I've done some sports photography with it, I think you will fine doing motorsports. I just sold an amost new one a few weeks ago for $1175. Bummer. If you get this, make sure you get one with a newer date code, some of the earlier ones were not as sharp. I think if you get the 70-200(a very good lens as well), you will be wanting more reach.
  18. I've heard good things about that 17-85, but I've never used it. If you ever want to drop some money on some fabulous glass, try the 24-105 L. I've used a lot of different lenses, and in my opinion that is one of the best. There are usually some good used ones floating around on fredmiranda.com(excellent site for tips and buying canon gear).
  19. I think you'll be very happy with this. I had a 20d and a 40d and loved them. The specs on the 50d are outstanding. What lenses are you using?
