Nice. Did you do all the work? I bet this had to stripped completely to paint the frame like that.
  3. Welcome, I have an 02 shadow spirit. Scootworks.com has tons of metric parts for a good price. Amazon, JC Whitney, and Iron Pony all also have a lot of stuff. Let me know if you have questions, I'll try to help if I can.
  4. Anyone going the Easy Rider show in Columbus Feb 13-15? I'm not a Harley guy myself, but I'm sure there will be plenty of custom bikes to drool over. I think I might go Saturday, so if anyone is interested in meeting, I'm game. It would be nice to know some cruiser guys or girls to ride with and hit up the Kickstand and Quaker Steak when the weather clears, all the guys I ride have gixxers and leave me in the dust.
  5. That cracked me up. That is exactly why I don't get on many message boards(except this one of course).
  6. I work at a graphics shop and we do decal removal almost every so I'll reiterate what some of the others said with some expert advice behind it. Do not use a 3m or any other stripper tool. These are designed for removing wraps on buses or really old vinyl on a surface that doesn't need to look good. A heat gun is your friend, just don't leave it in one place too long and melt your plastics. Also work in a warm area, cold vinyl is brittle and will not come as easily. See if you can find a tool called Lil Chisler. It is a little pink plastic scraper that is designed for removing graphics on vehicles. Don't use it as a scraper though, just very gently use it to get an edge started and then peel it slowly. Use goo gone to remove adhesive, or even better a remover called Right Off, but I doubt you'll find in stores, it is a somewhat specialized product. Some of these decals have thick silvery adhesive on them, and you will better off peeling the decal and leaving the adhesive and removing it later. I had one of these on a jeep before and yanked it so I didn't have to clean adhesive and it peeled the paint. Low and slow is the key to peeling. Skip the tank, worrying about the clear coat isn't worth it, and the bike looks good with it anyway.
  7. I am amazed at all the IT and computer geeks here. Me too, I do graphic design and I'm working on a 2nd degree in web development. Someone on here says they do java work all day, I feel sorry for you, java gives me nightmares. Maybe a good percentage of us geeks have bikes because we are the ones who can afford it?
  8. I found a primered tank on ebay that fits my bike, I'm going to do that so I can keep the stock tank as well, that way it is there when I sell the bike. Sorry, I should have waited to post.
  9. A primered tank would be the best, less prep work on my part, but if the bondo job is bad, don't expect miracles.
  10. Text would be fine, I work at a sign shop and have access to all kinds of neat stuff that I can use for templates. Must painters cut out stencils in vinyl to paint, so that's what I would do. PM me with some info, I won't be ready for a few weeks, I want to build some stands so I can rotate the tank like a spit for full coverage. Is the tank bare, or is it painted already? If so do you happen to know what type of paint? Lacquer? Urethane? Enamel? If I plan on using lacquer. If it is not already lacquer, it will need to be stripped completely. Let me some info if possible, at minimum make model and paint code so I can do some research.
  11. Anyone have an old fuel tank lying around that they may want painted free? I am getting ready to strip down my bike to paint it, and wouldn't mind practicing a bit, so you let me use your tank and get a free paint job out of it. It would be painted black unless you want to buy the paint. I'm getting ready to get the gear to do this up, and would just feel more comfortable if I could practice before I take my bike apart. I'm pretty comfortable painting, as I do have some artistic skills( I work as a graphic designer and majored in fine art in college). There is no doubt in my mind that the tank will come back pristine, I'm just a boy scout and always start a project well prepared and want the practice. I would also be willing to incorporate some simple graphics( no high detail flaming skulls or anything, I don't airbrush), maybe some simple flames or tribal if that floats your boat. Hit me up if you're into this, I would like to do it sometime in February. Thanks!
  12. Sign up early for these if you are interested; I tried all last spring and summer and could not get in because they were so busy. I ended up taking it at C&A Harley for $300 bucks. Even that was worth it to me as I was new rider. I may take the experienced rider course this year, I know I can always use the practice.
  13. I remember Howard the Duck and didn't like it as kid. I loved the Last Starfighter though, I still watch that whenever it comes on, but it is not one that has aged well. I think my favorite of that era was Beastmaster, I remember trying to get my cat to do shit all the time and swinging swords like Dar every chance I got.
  14. I think my hobby is thinking of all the fun and exciting things I'm going to do, but then I start drinking and forget all about them.
  15. nickname, huh? My real name is Art and I use Artmageddon in my fantasy leagues. If that doesn't make me too much of a douchebag to come up with my own, we can try that.
  16. Not familiar with TSW, post a link and I'll check it out. Thanks!
  17. I've been lurking for a while, figured it was about time to say hi. I noticed most on the board are sport bike riders. I ride a cruiser myself(02 Honda Shadow Spirit 750), but most of the guys I ride with are gixxer guys and I like this site because it doesn't seem to matter what you ride here, as long as you ride. A lot the sites I've tried out seem to be that if you don't ride a certain type of bike, you shouldn't ride at all and I prefer to avoid that attitude. I'm a fairly new rider(got my first last spring) and like to ride safe and ride hard. I'm a graphic designer by trade, so if anyone is looking for some graphics hit me up and try to help you out if I can, but my job and family keep me pretty busy. I'm also back in school getting a second degree in web design, so if anyone needs some tips or advice, let me know and I'll try to help if I can. I'm 31, married, no kids( but a dog that might as well be), pretty quiet and reserved, but looking forward to getting to know some of you. Art
  18. I have a barely worn mens Highway One Intake leather jacket, size medium. i bought it this spring, and then my wife surprised me with another that I like a bit better. 19. I bought my first bike from integrity last spring, 02 shadow spirit 750. I spent over month going to every dealer in Columbus, and felt that every other dealer wanted to get me on big expensive bike that would benefit them more than me. I went to integrity, told them by budget and what I was looking for, and was treated with nothing but respect by everyone there. I can't remember the salesman's name, but it was a no pressure atmosphere, I was showed what I asked for and the was told the downfalls and high points of each bike. I did some, but not quite enough price comparisons before I got there, and at the time they were a little high, but not off the charts. Late spring was a bad time to buy anyway, and if I would have waited I'm sure I could have found a better deal, but I didn't want good weather to get away from me. At that time they had the best selection of used bikes that I could find in Columbus. I never felt they were shady, but like I said earlier, I could have got a better price had I shopped around more and maybe not bought in peak season. I would not finance through them, I used them for a few days and then used my own lender because of the high rates. So overall a good selection of used bikes, great salespeople, but maybe a bit pricey. I would recommend them, especially if you are paying cash, but my next bike will be a new one, so I doubt I use them again only for that reason.
