  1. Thanks for joining the cause guys! I am putting a flier together right now. What this was initially for was to raise the funds for these parts. What's more important though is I'm trying to get back to being fully independent again. Right now I am renting a place. The kitchen is too small to get in and out of and I can't do laundry or shovel snow in the winter. I am in the process of trying to build an accessible home and adding just a few custom options like widening doors, lower counters, accessible bathroom/shower, ramps etc is breaking the bank fast. This is what I really need funds for. Another thing I REALLY want to do is buy a standing wheelchair. It not only helps keep bones strong but it will make my daily life so much easier. The catch is they are retardedly expensive. This was the demo I tested and I didn't want to get out of it. These are the things I REALLY NEED. I completely understand how some people feel about my idea of getting back on the bike and some don't want to contribute toward the cause. Believe me, I get it. But as Todd said, this is something I have thought through. If I can go on a 20 minute ride, I want to do it. I won't be hitting the crazy roads I used to but to get on and ditch the wheelchair for a while will be an awesome freedom. The leg straps use light velcro that easily tear away. I will always use full gear as I did before. I have already bought the parts for this. I wanted to offset the costs but ultimately to raise money for the house and standing chair. Unless you ride, most people don't understand my desire to ride again. Most of you get it...but others don't. The facebook page has gotten awesome attention but what I've found is no one wants to contribute to getting me back on a bike...unless they are riders. I have also gotten a lot of flack and people saying they refuse to donate. Again, I get it. But what I want to say is I would NEVER use your money for the bike if I knew you were against it. Being handicapped is FUCKING EXPENSIVE and there are so many things I have to pay for on a daily basis. My medications alone are rediculous. I feel like an old man popping pills every few hours. I was hoping to charge $20 for the ride but really any donation would be cool. I just want it to be a good turnout.
  2. Wow, a couple scrapes and that's it. Chock it up as a WIN! Thank god for gear. I didn't have a scratch on me after my accident...just a broken back. Avoid TREES and you are golden!
  3. I PMed John to see if he can help me get this set up. I am excited!!
  4. The shifter should be in late this week or early next week. It is a universal kit so it will take a little fab work to make perfect. Not to mention my application is a little different than others. Usually this is in addition to a shift lever but I will be ruling out the shift lever all together since I have no use for it. As I said before, my goal is to be back on or be really close to being back on by my b-day, June 25th. You guys are already helping me make it happen! I will be doing some fishing in my other thread to see who can help with the fab work...several people offered. I just need to find one that can follow through. I will most likely need to have the bike moved some place with better tools and access to a mig/tig welder.
  5. Yep, just updated it. Good news!! I ordered the shifter today! I cleaned the hell out of my bike over the weekend and it is blingin'. Paul (Attack painter) has the fairings right now so that's pretty cool too! It's all coming together. I was in the garage an hour ago again...just staring at it. Can't wait to ride again.
  6. I will be paying it forward in a few weeks. There is a big poker run for a guy in Cinci that was recently paralyzed and needs money for his car modifications. I will be goin down to show some support. Thanks to all of you who have shown support for me!
  7. Nope, I wasn't able to make it. Would've been on 4 wheels anyway. Oh well, I will track him down somehow. PM me his # if you have it.
  8. No problem Moose, check received today! That means I can officially buy the electric shifter!! Thanks guys.
  9. That would be PERFECT!!! Hopefully, the 19TH IT IS. I was thinking the same exact thing...about contacting the CSBA guys. They are an awesome group. What's crazy is last June's ride was by far the best time I ever had on my bike! This would be exactly one year later. I want to get a hold of John. That is my next step. Good lookin out.
  10. Agreed! I want to get a flyer up but I need some details. I guess no one knows where to start with one of these? Well shit, I am about to throw out a date. Hows...Saturday, June 5th? Anyone? Flyer pic:
  11. Haha, well thanks for picking it up. I will keep an eye out for it. It is a Dominion home that I am making a few tweaks to...wider doors, ect. The plan isn't together 100% but it's getting there. Thaaaaaaaaanks!!!!!!! You da man! Well, I already know I will need a ramp built in my garage. I'm keeping your # handy!! OK guys, good news. Once I receive that check in the mail, the shifter is OFFICIALLY PAID FOR!! Unfortunately, it is more than $600 but I found it on this site for a decent deal. They are $750 from Pingel themselves. http://www.solomotoparts.com/product.php?productid=30186&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Froogle
  12. Got it! Tell her thanks again. Thanks Krystyn! I really appreciate it. All right, here's the deal. I talked to Lee, the designer of the kit yesterday. He looked over all the pics I sent of my frame and said it will work, no problem. Great news! Here's the thing...if I see any chance of this happening in the near future, I need to plunk down some cash to get the ball rolling. I am sending him a check for $1800 out of the foundation today. As I said before, this does not cover the electronic shifter. He gave me the # of the place that sells it. I just have to get a hold of them and order one. That is $600. Right now, I have $481.05 in paypal and hopefully, the $100 from Moose will show up soon. This is about enough to get the shifter so hopefully, I can get that ordered too. Anyone wanna make a quick donation!?! wink wink nudge nudge. Also good news, I just signed the contract last night to begin building my new handicapped accessible home! It was nerve racking signing my life away but I think this will be a great way to finally be fully independent. I looked at a lot of houses and all of them needed major changes to be usable so building new is a much better option. With this being said, I could really use that $1800 back! Hopefully I can make it to bike night tomorrow if the weather doesn't suck. I really really want to get a ride together!
  13. Yea, I'm an idiot. We do still need about $2500. The landing gear is $1800 and the shifter is $600...but that doesn't cover the switches and misc stuff. Sent it through paypal? Got it! Thanks buddy.
  14. I was thinking about you guys on Saturday. It was a beautiful day for a Hocking ride!
  15. Awesome! That would bring the total to $466...about 1/3 of the way there. Donations have still been a little slow going but I will be at bike night on Wednesday (weather permitting) with some flyers and shirts. Hopefully I can get some people to throw in for a good cause. I have the rear of the bike down to the frame right now so I can take pics and send them to Lee, the guy making the kit. He wants to make sure I am getting all the right spacers and parts. I'm crossing my fingers this works!! Scratch that, it WILL work. I am bound and determined.
  16. haha, +1. I went on a coupe "another Katana down" rides. I think Iron Pony would be an awesome place to meet and have a ride out of.
  17. I think around Columbus would be the best bet. I had a benefit at Quaker Steak last fall...not sure if they would be down for another. My sister used to work there but kind of got fired. haha She has mentioned a place called Rude Dog that the manager may be cool with having something there. I'm gonna see if my sis can talk to him. She seems to be good at it. I mentioned in the other thread that I will be selling shirts. $15 for Brian Kinney Foundation and $20 for Cut the Bullshit. (My motto!)
  18. Agreed! Bump it up! Anyone started one of these before?
  19. Tits. Doooo it!! I think that could be a great way to get the word out. Awesome, thanks Moose! That brings the running total to $366. Send it to my PO box and make it out to Brian Kinney Foundation PO BOX 648 Dublin OH 43017 I'm also gonna be selling some of these shirts to raise some money. $20 for the Cut The Bullshit (my motto) - $15 for Brian Kinney Foundation. Represent bitches! I will get a list of sizes together and let you know!
  20. Fux yea!!! That's awesome! Tell your aunt I really appreciate it. Yep, that's the same kit. I am excited to get it on too! The only potential problem I see is the battery box getting in the way of the landing gear. I may have to find somewhere else to mount it.
  21. Thanks Ted for your awesome donation! So far, we are at $211. Any little bit helps!! On a side note, I'm thinking about trying to skip outta class early so I can go to bike night and talk to some peeps. The weather today looks like crap so we will see...may wait till next week. I'd like to pull together some fliers to pass out. I am trying to come up with one in the next few days...if anyone has awesome skills with this, let me know. Otherwise I can do it myself. You guys are already doing enough. One more thing I need to start thinking about is getting some new gear. I'm not sure if anyone remembers seeing the Shoei helmet I was wearing but the entire top of it is caved in from hitting the tree. The medics also cut off the jacket, pants, boots and gloves I was wearing. I can salvage the boots but everything else is crap. I wonder if Iron Pony would be willing to help out too? That would be bad ass! Once again, big thanks to you guys and girls for making this happen!
  22. WOOOOOHOOOO!!! I'm diggin' it.
  23. Thank you both so much! That's a nice start.
