  1. Good to meet you Ob. Good ride today - like you said, just about perfect conditions. Great weather, one or maybe two small spots with gravel and almost no traffic. Hope I didn't slow you down too much. I think that route had enough stops built in that you didn't have to wait too long.
  2. My first season riding in 25 years. 1500 so far, but only just now beginning to get in some long rides.
  3. Sounds like my kinda pace. I'm in. See you there.
  4. There was a spring on the shift linkage on the right side that came off. It was a fairly easy fix and just needed to take off the right side cover.
  5. Found a mechanic - problem fixed.
  6. I bought an '03 VFR800 five months ago and love it so far. Bought it for $5k in pristine condition. If you like the 07-09s, keep in mind that it's the same bike from '02 on. Honda hasn't changed 'em in 8 years.
  7. Thanks! I'll give him a call.
  8. I need some ideas on who can work on an old bike. Or maybe even some diagnostics. I just bought an old Honda for the wife to ride. After not even five minutes of riding, the thing stuck in second gear and I can't get it out (up or down). I picked this 1979 Honda Twinstar CM185 up on eBay for $610 as a beginning bike for the wife to learn on. Rode it around the parking lot (the seller met me half way) in first and second gear. Today, I am riding it out to a parking lot for the wife to refresh on after taking MSF last April and on the way there I moved through the gears to third with no problems. I downshift to second to round a corner, accelerate and ... ... no third gear. I try three times to clutch it up into third and nothing happens. At the next stop, I can't get it into first either. HNW is right around the corner, so I stop there. No luck, they have no time to service a bike and gave me the name of a guy who sounds like he'll look at it but if it's too involved, he has no time either. So, now what? Anyone know any good mechanics? Does this sound like a problem anyone has run into? The guy who sold me this is east of Cleveland. He did a fix for something else in the tranny before he sold me the bike. I may take it back to him to look at. I don't work on bikes so I can't say I'm up for a tranny fix - I wouldn't know what I was doing. Any advice is much appreciated.
  9. Looks promising. We'll see - looks like a long wheelbase sport-tourer with some guts. I see the shaft, but please no push button tranny or auto! I also like some of the press I've heard (if accurate) that the 1200 V4 will be a power plant to be used in a variety of bikes. Like the early 80's when there was a cruiser, standard, and sport.
  10. Hope it's developed like the 80's (Magna, Sabre, Interceptor) and not like now (DN-01).

Pro Grip 699. Just installed a pair this weekend. The feel is still solid with no mushiness but still gives a little cushion.
  12. This is my idea too. Might be you'll be happier with something to switch to.
  13. How about jogger idiot month? In March, just after I started riding again after 25 years away, I'm coming down a suburban street @ 25 and I can see this kid approaching from a side street. iPod on and not paying attention. I just slowed to see how it played out and the kid finally saw me when he was in the middle of the street. Then the punk stutter steps around almost trips over his own feet and nearly falls dowri right in front of me! He recovers and smiles at me and runs off. Good thing nothing was coming the other way 'cause he never looked that direction either. Just convinces me that Darwin was definitely on to something.
  14. So, how do you like the '08 VFR compared to the '84 VF1K? Just curious.

  15. Wow. That is just amazing. I stumbled on this post on VFRW before I saw it here. Very cool.
  16. Awesome! My wife and I also both passed two weeks ago. For $25 bucks it was something fun for us to do together. She was so sure she wasn't going to pass but the instructors were so good and totally cool that she made it through. I had been licensed before but when I moved to Texas and had a million things to do to get set up, I screwed the pooch and forgot to have the endorsement transferred when I changed my license. It didn't really matter when I moved back to OH since I was bikeless anyway. A lot of years later, I got back into it. Cheers.
  17. I gotta see this - that is a favorite paint scheme for the VFR, right up there with candy red and RWB.
  18. JAGR nailed it. A few extra points though based on my own very limited experience so far. If you don't have a helmet, they'll loan you one, they have plenty and my wife used one of theirs to pass the course. Also, the guys that run these are very cool, very experienced riders. One of ours was a veteran motorcycle cop - good guy. If you have any questions, they'll give you good insight. Finally, if you want a bike at a good price, seems to me that there's plenty nearby and people that'll help you out. If you want something specific, you might need to hit the road. e.g. - I've been drooling over a 1990 Honda VFR in NJ that's clean for $2,750. If I didn't have my '03 version, it'd be road trip time. Good luck. Heal up quick and get out there!
  19. The Euro white/black with the white rims rocks. (btw V4, the P-40 couldn't keep up with the P-38)
  20. I agree. I rode in college and now, at 45 with my kids in HS and college I decided I liked the VFR and the wife says, "Go for it!" I like it a ton. The fuel injection is twitchier than I remember the GS750e or the Nighthawk being, but I'm getting used to it.
  21. Up for a drive to Jersey? There is a 1990 VFR for sale for $2,750 listed on VFRWorld.com You'll need to register I think to see it and go to the classified section. Then look in the bikes for sale section. Happy hunting. David
  22. Why not just run race tuned Crown Vics against same Chargers and G8's and make it real again.
