  1. Just took this bike out tonight to run her through the gears and make sure everything is working alright. I forgot what a hoot this little thing is to ride. Still available. The good: In pretty good cosmetic shape for a bike that is 32 years old everything works including electricals The bad: It'll need a new battery soon It's a commuter bike mostly - don't expect to take on gixxers on the interstate It's 32 years old - some basic parts are available like clutches but everything else will send you on a snipe hunt Verdict: Fun little old bike. If this doesn't sell and gas stays around $4 a gallon, I'll be riding this to work.
  2. Wow. Maybe fusion needs to go to a nice dark room and listen to his Barbara Streisand records or something to calm down. I say records 'cause iPods are for fucktards that don't know how to use a turntable.
  3. The dry cleaner is a good call. They frequently do wedding dress preservation work. Columbus Lace does commercial class work (theater curtains, stuff like that) so they might also do something along the lines of curator-class preservation or could point you in the right direction.
  4. It has electric start. It will need a battery soon. Thanks, David

    I am in love

Does this have the ethanol-intolerant tank?
  6. I believe it could do freeway speeds - if you could handle the vibration - I've had it in the 50's I think. It gets a bit buzzy at higher revs and it only has a 4 speed tranny. I'd think of this as more of a urban/suburban commuter.
  7. Bump. (Don't think it'll fit in a backpack though.)
  8. My wife's bike - for sale. Will need a new battery soon but runs decently. Would make a nice commuter bike. PM with any Qs. Thanks.
  9. Your first sentence is absolutely correct.
  10. Very clever - but you're cherry picking. Ohio's gross receipts tax is not easy to compare with a garden variety corporate income tax. But you're right, generally, by itself it's not so bad. Same for unemployment taxes - they're comparatively low too. The Tax Climate Index tells a much fuller story though. It adds all the taxes a business owner pays, including commercial property, individual income taxes, etc., and with that, we're pretty bad.
  11. A little factoid: according the Tax Foundation, Ohio ranks 46th nationally in their "Business Tax Climate Index" for 2011. That is, 5th worst. (Behind New York, New Jersey, California and Connecticut.) Not much room to raise taxes and we're in pretty select company already.
  12. Disagree. There is no mutual exclusivity with the pursuit of scientific knowledge and religion. The real conflict is between our new religion, Consumerism, and the old ones.

    New RVF??

Apologies if this is a repost. This is verrryy interesting! http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/newsandupdates/motorcycle_news/122_1104_honda_rvf1000r_coming_soon/index.html
  14. Not sure where you're going with this either. Maybe A LOT of riders don't have that M - but I do. Never got to the point of him looking at my license though. He saw how fast I pulled the insurance card and reached for my wallet and he said never mind. This guy, like probably most LEOs, just followed his experience, common sense and instincts. Saw I had a plate, ran it on his terminal, saw my insurance, looked me over and basically apologized for wasting my time. Point of the thread was a fender eliminator warning and to convey a "good" story about an encounter with the local gendarmerie.
  15. 19 year-old engine trapped in a 47 year-old frame. Ride a sport bike 'cause I'm a punk. Ride a VFR on accounta this wrecked body.
  16. Competition Werkes, I think. Was just about the first thing I did when I bought the bike two years ago. Every FE I've seen for the VFR, including the custom ones you'll see posted up on VFRW, put the plate in about the same place.
  17. .. and it turned out not so bad. So as I'm riding the viffer on my way to church (seriously) I get stopped by a Grandview Heights LEO. I'd been headed south on Riverside and turned left on 5th. I know how heavily 33/Riverside is patrolled on Sunday mornings so I was takin' it easy. I see the Crown Vic coming west down the hill as I'm going the opposite direction and thot nothing of it since I'm doing 25 (the limit on 5th). Two lights later, the guy's behind me with lights on. So, I stop and keep my hands on the bars as he comes up on me. (I've read this scenario and want to keep his mind at ease.) He asks me, very politely, to come look at my plate(????) Turns out, he didn't like my fender eliminator. On the VFR, it does get kind of buried down between the twin high exhausts. Guy was very polite - to the point of almost being apologetic - and said he really pulled me over because he was thinking I had no plate. Truth is, I think once he was right behind the bike and that I had a plate, he knew everything was cool. But he had already hit the lights and I had stopped. Then he saw a middle aged guy (me) and just checked my insurance and let me go quickly. So, Grandview cops seem to be as good as they were when I grew up there. It was just about as nice a stop as you'll ever have but a word of warning: fender eliminators might be a trouble spot.
  18. In the morning after Tex/Mex, you break moist, burning wind.
  19. Truth. Really - a vee four sport tourer? What the hell are they thinking?
  20. Losing a pet is always awful. How long you wait is up to you. For us, it's happened twice in 25 years and it just sort of happened that after a few months we were ready to move on.

    Budget

Don't know that we want to go down that road. We can bring 'em home. But I like our warriors being, well, warriors. When I say cut half the military, I mean cutting spending. This is actually an area of possible cooperation between Republicans and Obama. They did it with the F35 engine program and trimmed $450 million this year and $3 billion over the future life of the program. I suspect there's more where that came from.

    Budget

Truth. Cut military in half, drop ALL foreign aid (just makes more enemies), make some rational choices on Medicare and Social Security, get rid of some favorable tax treatments (and this includes home mortgage deduction above $250k or so). Do that stuff and you'll be making some progress - while pissing just about everybody off.

    Senate Bill 5

Yeah, and most people are also unaware of the tens of millions soon to be spent on a referendum campaign and vote.
  24. Yeah. I'm not seeing anything new on the site these days. Mostly 2010 stimulus stuff. Hope the roads don't suffer much from the lack of funds.
