  1. Prayers sent. Sad to hear this and I won't be opening the pics. I can't stand to see people get hurt.
  2. Yep. I saw that post and thanks for the reminder. I have been wanting to do this far east OH ride but I kept the route on the north side of Woodsfield for that reason. David
  3. Late notice. Taking some days off and riding tomorrow. Probably leaving 8:30 or so from Hilliard area. Just now planning route but thinking 23S and 56SE to Athens, 550E to Marrietta, 26E to 255S via 800, then 536W to 78. From there I'll see how I feel and it's either 800 north and slabbing 70 home or more 78 to 376. Lots of breaks along the way so this could take a while . It'll be easy paced if anyone wants to join. David
  4. I'm in for some other time. I'm a "returning" rider and these easy rides are a good idea. I rode today since tomorrow is busy -- I did some Coshocton/Holmes County roads. Beautiful day and very fun. I do worry about doing these solo sometimes though. I ended up following a guy for a while today in a blue Sprint ST(I think) on 520 in Holmes County. It was nice to watch him carve some corners at a sane (but faster than me) pace. Kind of confidence inspiring. He motioned for me to keep up with him but after a few blind rises that I took a bit too slow, he was gone. This was particularly embarrassing since he had his girlfriend on the back! Thanks -- I'll watch this space.
  5. I also have the Quantum II. When I returned to riding last year, a bikeless friend loaned me his old Quantum/e. I had never had a helmet fit my head so perfectly. However, if you find something DOT, or even Snell certified that fits well and is cheap, I say go for it.
  6. Hard to tell what's sacred anymore. My advice: Go take in a good high school football game. Tickets are cheap, lots of good teams in Ohio and public schools are still making it into, and winning, the championship games.
  7. Maybe in the old days. Now, currency is the currency of college athletics.
  8. Hmm. Taxing church property. Not bad. It'd be cool to go back to when everyone just met at someone's house on Sunday. While we're taxing property, what about universities? Those bastions of the upper class get to pay no tax on land that was given to them free in the first place and then charge $20,000 for an education. But they're a "state instution". Really? I guess I get confused about that when I drive by "Harvard on the Olentangy."

    Hocking/180

Thanks for the post madcat. Ran that today - along with 374 and stretches of 664, 93 and 56. Made running slab on 23 and 33 worthwhile. Probably posted elsewhere, but 56 exit is closed off 23S. Need to go to the next light and turn onto the shopping center service road that'll take you into Circletucky and back to 56.
  10. In '87 when I took out my first mortgage, the banks were giving me numbers they said I could "afford" based on their "ratios". But I knew there was no way the monthly payment they quoted was in my budget. Those jokers get paid for deal flow. Always think about what the guy on the other side of the desk wants. It's intimidating, I know, but ask questions and do some math and decide what makes sense for YOU.
  11. Goldman was the middleman. The Abacus deal in the article was arranged among institutional investors, the smallest of which kicked in $175 million. It wasn't granny that got duped with that one. If you put $175 million into something and you don't do your due diligence, your a dumbass. Period. That's the lesson. Do the homework. Read the financials. If it sounds too good to be true... well you know..
  12. Cool thread. I just posted this in another thread a couple days ago but it should be here. I rode 56 almost to Athens and took 356 South. It is newly paved and absolutely on a Saturday. A bridge is out just north of US 50 so I took some gravel roads over to 278 to go back north to Nelsonville. Gravel is not so fun on the VFR so I'll wait until the bridge is done to do this again (supposedly later this month). David

    2006 vfr800

Nice find! Lots of those around.

    Want one

I'll bet it costs a hell of a lot less than the new VFR, too. I guess there are "new noncurrent" VFRs to be had for around $7-8k. For me, and it's probably cuz I'm old, if I was going to actually tour, especially two up, I'd look elsewhere. Even the viffer is hard on the wrists and back after a couple hours. David

    You all suck

Sorry to hear that - here's what I did today. State Route 356 (newly paved): Bridge is out just north of US 50, so I took Gambill Hallow "road" and other goat paths to get to 278 north. (Note the handy GPS mounted above the tank.) Get back to Ohio where the roads have the occasional bend in 'em. David
  17. Nice naked half-cepter!

    To VFR or not?

Beautiful. Welcome to the VFR bunch.
  19. A classic. Good luck with the sale.
  20. Enjoy it! I unfortunately don't have an RC51 to compare my 6th gen to, but I get the drift.
  21. Same. Had 'em a year and a half. Good gloves.
  22. Looks like a great ride! Good thing that gravel truck (at 5:55) wasn't there at the wrong moment.
