  1. Sooo code 2 = doughnuts are coming out but not quite there, you have time and code 3 = they are done and gonna be cold?? j/k

I grew up in a smallish town in the middle of a cornfield and we saw cops blowing red lights all the time...only to see them sitting there bs'ing w/ the other cop on duty, or a buddy at McD's or something. So I guess maybe the better question would be, is if I witness this and send it "somewhere" are these codes logged and confirmed??

Just asking, you folks do a job I wouldnt want in a million years and I appreciate that. In all the times I've been pulled over in the last 20+ years only 2 cops that I remember were complete douches, but I have seen some do very questionable things like asked above. Now in said small town where I grew up the last thing you wanted to do was piss off one of the few cops there, but I don't live there anymore and don't drive like the idiot teenager I was then so I wanna :flingpoo:

haha code 3 for donuts go! go! go! dont let them get cold!!!!!! haha j/k i actually refuse to eat a donut on duty...damn stereotype haha! as for if anything is logged...the type of call or something that is going on will be logged almost 95% of the time, it could be everything from a domestic in progress, car stop in need of backup, warrant check, etc, etc. there are the ones that give all other LEOs bad names to bust a light to go bs with other LEOs, oh well. lol

  2. I understand your point, but I've seen a few cruisers blip their lights, blow through the intersection, then shut the lights off and slow to normal traffic speed. If that's responding to an emergency call, I'd hate to have an emergency in their jurisdiction.

some calls that LEOs go to are called basically code 2 calls....example...you have a fellow officer pulling over a car with someone that is known to have a warrant. now...the backup officer cant run lights and sirens to back the initiating officer up(unless the guy starts to run), so they go code 2 status which is...using your lights to get through traffic lights to get there at a spirited pace yet not running code 3(lights and sirens) to get to backup your fellow officer. now this does vary by department but if my backup officer has to use his lights through an intersection while not causing complete alarm to every citizen on the street...i want a fellow officer there asap no matter how many lights he goes through with his lights on. and other calls....we dont want the 'bad' guys to know we are coming.

  3. So with that being said, if I witness a marked cruiser hit his lights just to blow past the intersection, can I send them a citation for reckless operation and failure to obey?

no, because you have no idea what type of call that officer is responding to. believe it or not most LEOs dont go through lights just to get the fresh donuts at the local Dunkin' Donuts. Go do a ride along with a fairly active department and you will have a better understanding of police operations. :D

  4. I thought this too, you can request a trial for a MM but not for a "administrative" infraction like a red light camera ticket.

i was just using this as an example albeit a poor choice because of the civil tie ins, it is just the same principle when a police officer does the observing. heck if i am off duty in my jurisdiction and i see a vehicle operating in a reckless manner and almost causing accidents and possible serious physical injury to another, i can send them a ticket in the mail. just food for thought.

  5. Word.. I use to get some solid arrests off of wreckless high speeds in the past.. damn the ORC sometimes

its true, for everyone else, thats why some officers pull over people for no turn signal, bustest tailights, and other misc infractions...maybe not because they are a dick but prolly because they are looking for something more and you happen to look like a dirtbag that just made a traffic violation;) haha now issuing a citation after said stop without finding say crack, tar, or any other misc felony is a dick move. ok off my soap box. sorry all.

  6. Well I know the 3rd party is much flimsier. Either way it would be observing a geared person on the bike with a tinted shield and without making a stop at that time.

As it pertains to a citation...if the vehicle is registered to you, you are ultimately responsible for any and all infractions committed on the bike, whether it was you or not. Now as for a defense in court, that is a different story and that is where it should be disputed. but an LEO can cite for infractions even if your identity was not confirmed. Thats exactly how the traffic light cams work...same principle. Crappy principle but the same

  7. So if a ticket is delivered to me that says my veh was traveling 150 mph but no one was ID'd or only a general description may have been given (and I have several friends who are also about 6' and caucasian with access to my bike) then how would it be proven beyond a reasonable doubt to be me? Just curious, looking at this from both sides including maybe someone I know does something dumb on my bike and I find out later.

Of course this is all a moot point in this scenario as the guy probably gave him up.

Well are you saying by a 3rd party or are you asking if an LEO personally observed you and got the correct plate with matching vehicle that the plate returns to?

  8. ^Huh, I wonder about that part. Did his buddy give him up or did he just say "yeah it was me." I was under the impression that if you aren't ID'd and they try to deliver a ticket to the address the veh is titled under you the 5th is your friend.

    doesnt work that way haha

And in the end, these guys are only going to court because of the mandatory 30mph+ over....they will get a fine in the end and that is all. it is only a minor misdemeanor ticket. no other punishment other than a fine is permitted by law. as for discipline in their agency, im sure their ranking officers will not be pleased but an MM is very minor infraction when it comes down to it the law itself on a scale of crimes from MM-Felony...unlike some officers who get in fights off duty or etc that are charged with M1's and M2's. oh well. and for everyone who claims they would be treated different since they are not LEOs...thats not necessarily true...i am assuming these guys have a pretty clean driving record and that goes a long way.

  9. Hehehe... It really does sound like a squad of Harleys running...

Would you like to meet somewhere on the West or North West side? Plenty of places to grab a bite and easily navigated for our Mansfield rider. Bolton Field is just outside 270 and just South of 70' date=' so easy access to 270 is a bonus too. I don't mind riding all the way up to Polaris/Westerville, but we could meet in Dublin/Hillard area too if everyone else is coming from farther South.

Edit: Anyone who is in for a Friday ride to the old bird send me a PM.[/quote']

Dublin/Hillard area will work for me, i can navigate that! i dont want to inconvenience everyone...just name the place and ill find it!

  10. I wish we had this option in Corrections. All of info is made public. They try to hide our address, but there is ways around it.

where there is a will, there is a way, even when we register our vehicles or change our address on our license to the headquarters....perps will always find a way. but the perp will have a rude awakening if they try anything here...both me and the fiance are LEOs....they will be having a very very bad day...

  11. Quick question the the LEO's on the board:

Why did they give their work address for the ticket? Is that standard procedure for LEO's? The question was brought up on another website (newarkadvocate.com where I read about it) and all I could think of is that maybe they're supposed to, so that they aren't hiding anything from the dept...

it depends, mostly we give our work address because of this situation....the ticket became public record as cited in the article it displayed the station address instead of his home address. As an LEO we can get the address on our licenses changed to our headquarters address...honestly it has nothing to do with hiding anything from the dept...it is an officer safety issue/and the safety of our families, once your home address becomes public, every shitbag you ever arrested will track you down and potentially harm you and or your family. it is just usually a precaution for LEOs, i know some that have their addressed changed on their license, i know some that do not.

  12. So when is everyone planning on going to see the old bird?? I would love to go but A. i have no idea where Bolton field is and B. i gotta ride down from mansfield. I really want to go, my grandpa flew those in WWII, and he was the bombardier for the B17s and B29s. Let me know, i am interested! wish i had the cash roll to take a ride!

  13. Hey... I understand a lot of the reason for it. Your life may depend on these people at some point and you have to wonder... If I nail this guy for speeding today, will he show up as fast when I need backup? Will this dude drag my ass out of the way when i'm broken and bleeding? But still... the law is suppsoed to apply to us all. That's all I want.

    :plus1:

  14. Also, LEOs are held to a higher standard by society, when society hears of the indescression. How often does the LEO community cover up for one of their own? Society, yes... but the legal community holds them to a much lower standard. A police officer near me was found passed out drunk in the drive through at Steak and Shake. Until the story got out... they had no intention of punishing him at all... no charges were filed for weeks etc. The cops took him home. I know a few bad apples spoil the bunch... but small things, lead to bigger things. At LEAST let the guy get the same as I would for the same thing. Years ago when I took criminal law, that was 10 points on my license and a 6 month license suspension.

I guess those officers opted for officer discretion? :dunno: Agreed some officers lack morals or common sense when it comes to fellow boys/girls in blue - some officers take officer discretion to an entirely different level and attempt to bend----> :rulez: (ok you caught me the only reason i like to post on here is to use these cool smilies) :D

  15. Forward any problems with that statment to the former police chief in charge of the criminal justice departement at UC who teaches police organization and management.

Name and address please? haha just kidding, yes most of the time there is a performance expectation in most departments, technically a quota..no. ;) but in departments who do not sit and run traffic (most small villages, troops, etc. traffic cops) the aforementioned "quota" is more directed to felony, misdemeanor arrests, summonses, etc. I've distinctly heard this line before "so, in the last 3 months you need more felony warrants and felony arrests, 15 isnt enough, go get more tar and rock." and thats not for money, its to keep our streets clean, the revenue isnt large enough to make a difference in most cities' budgets. for traffic tickets, there is a certain chief that discourages his officers from running traffic, i like that.

Blacktalon- you changed your post to something completely different! oh well, i liked the first post better haha
