About 21 feet is the norm although I think some classes will go back more, up to 50 feet. There was a woman at my dad's class, same one a few others on here went to, she had a little .22 revolver the size of my thumb. It was all over the paper. lol. But it's just preference on using a .22.

My class was $0. Ohio accepts military training in lieu of a CCW class. But I have seen them anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on what they offer. Some include lunch, weapons and firearms or go above the state mandated class. Most places say you can use any caliber although they prefer larger than .22 since accuracy isn't the greatest at any kind of distance.

It's not a safe, just a lock box. Makes it more difficult not impossible to steal. But what else can you do other than don't keep it in there or bolt an actual safe in your truck.

You don't reach for a spare mag in the middle of a struggle. You clear and then re engage with a loaded firearm. The last thing I want to do is have my own firearm used against me. If it is taken and I can drop the magazine, he can't engage me with it. I can then go to a BUG or another tool. Without the disconnect, if it is taken and I can drop the mag, he still has one round that could be fired. Of course the object is weapon retention, but that is just one more tool I have at my disposal if it hits the fan. Situation dictates, of course. Like I had said in the other thread, sometimes when I keep it in my car, I will remove the mag and store them separately. At lest if it is stolen, it can't be used immediately.

Which is why you carry extra mags. It was one of the must haves on mine.
