  3. How's this for an opinion I never took the MSF course and think it's a waste of time for people who have any experience with the physical controls of a motorcycle like a dirt bike with a clutch and gears.

Take my opinion for what it's worth because I have no knowledge about what value the MSF course offers.

    lulz

  4. I enjoy threads like this. People that have never done a track day say it's really not needed. Those that have say it helped them out a lot. I have yet to see someone post that did a track day and said that it was a waste of time and really didn't give them an edge on the street.

  5. You're trying to compare yourself at something that cannot be compared. I could be a first year rider and be comfortable (read stupid) enough to take a 90 degree turn at 150mph. Or I could be riding for 7 years and be comfortable enough to take that turn at 100mph. We can't tell you that at 2 years you should have the ability and confidence to ride a certain way.

  6. Oh okay, I thought he was telling me to stay away from public roads. I do agree that a track day (school) should be in my future - it's just a matter of taking the time away from work (schedule is different day to day) and getting the money together.

But, this got a little off topic...maybe I should word it differently. How long did it take you to be comfortable on twisty roads? Not gonna lie - there's some turns down that way that definitely scared me a little.

    Comfortable is a relative term.

  7. My girlfriend was trying to navy a while ago, and her recruiter told her that with the economy being crap right now, they have more applicants then ever and it's really hard for an 'average' person to get in.

I did 5 years in the Marines, 2 tours of Iraq and a year in japan, feel free to pm me as well and I'll answer as best I can. My biggest advice.. Whatever you do is to get a trade that you can use after to get a job

This is good advice. I knew some people, snipers, mortars, infantry, etc....that were getting out. They were really worried about finding jobs because the civilian side just doesn't have a huge need for those types of jobs, unless you go to work for companies like KBR, Blackwater etc.

  8. Keep in mind they really don't need any more recruits. With the economy, many people went to the military, mainly the army. So the recruiters aren't being pushed to get numbers. The other thing is most of them didn't volunteer for that duty. Being a recruiter sucks.

I don't know your situation, but unless you have that position in writing, it is not waiting for you by any means.

  9. the only rounds i would be worried about passing through and harming innocents would be FMJ loads, in most cases

Which is why you DO NOT use FMJ in a firearm for defensive purposes. You uses a hollow point. Unless you carry a .22 then I'd go with a FMJ.

  10. More unrelated randomness and thanks again btw

1- I read a lot of threads and see a few people talking about overheating their bikes by sitting in traffic. I thought bikes ( atleast mine does ) had auxilary fans that kick on when temp gets too high. Can the bike still overheat even with the fan or are we just talking bikes without fans?

2- I've flipped through MOM ( manufacturers owners manual ) and can't find anything about lubeing the clutch cable, can someone mabe post a step by step or atleast tell me where to lube? At the handle? At the mechanism?

3- sometimes when I kick into second gear she doesn't want to go and pops back out or I don't fully enguage it. It makes like a clicking noise and I feel the gear pedal bounce or vibrate. Am I just not kicking the lever far enough of mabe I need to adjust clutch cable or could I have another problem?

    1) My fan kicks on when the needle almost gets to the red. Happens at very slow speeds and sitting at lights. I installed a switch to manually turn the fan on and off. It will still kick on when it gets very hot, but now I can flip it on when I am getting into stop and go traffic and it keeps the temp down.

2)You can get lube from Iron Pony. It will come with a little needle on the bottle. Stick the needle into the cable and let the lube run down.

    3) Most bikes clunk when going into second. Just make sure you hit it hard and all the way, don't half shift it or you'll either hit neutral or it will pop out of second back into neutral.

  11. Not yet, I still have a few things to get, but I am working on it. Next up is going to be my freaking garage door opener! I remember a write up on here somewhere, I just have to either motivate myself a little more, or heal up a little more, and I'll get it wired in.

Also gotta get a tank bag, but I have been looking at those for a long time. I just can't decide which one. I don't really need more luggage, but I think I might put a drink system in it. Currently I have one I wear, which can be nice having a drink everywhere I walk, but depending on the ride, it can also get annoying.

I have also been debating about mounting my phone up front beside my gps, but I am worried that it will distract me too much if I do that. That might turn into a safety issue for me.

After that, I start working on the back half of my bike. I want a bike mounted tool kit, and first aid kit. I can put a lot of things on the front, back, top, bottom, and inner side of those luggage racks!

There is always something to be added to my Tour-abusa!

    :busa:

Yeah, there is one about wiring the garage door opener into your light switch.

I made a bracket for my phone, which is my GPS too. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out where to mount my power outlet as the GPS kills the batter in it.
