  1. Well I think I figured it out. I put the bike back together and put the starter cover back on with some hondabond(RTV). Well it made the same noise but worse when I tried to start it up. Traced the sound to the starter cover, I loosened the bolts on the cover and it started right up. So I think the clearances on the rods the gears fit on between the cover and engine are too tight with just RTV so I am going to get the actual gasket and see if that increases the clearances and works. Hopefully...

  2. in 2009 I figure about 6,500 miles, between the two bikes. Give or take a little. in 2010, about 50 feet. Got it running Friday and did a loop in the driveway. There was a dusting of snow so I did about 1.5mph with my feet skimming the ground :D

  3. Black matches everything
Black, goes with everything, even if you get a new bike.

But, you could just be less ghey and not care. I ride around with a red/white/black jacket on my copper bikes. Worst-case, women notice me because of how tacky it looks - and that's the goal right? To get noticed so they don't run your ass over.

Thats why I got a black jacket. I knew I wouldn't keep the Ninja for very long and didn't want a green kawasaki jacket while riding a different color, different make bike.

  4. White, maybe with a bit of pearl to it, but not neccessary. I love solid white bikes where the frame, wheels, etc give it heavy contrast.

Ugh, I hate white bikes, except for a few show only ones. Especially mine with a silver frame showing would just be too much. And I am not up to painting the frame. :D

  5. I saw your post over on Paul's Thread and thought I would help you out a bit on the "Flat" clear.

Its just that...It clear that a flattening agent has been added to to make it appear flat over the base color. THe gloss ratio can be adjusted when they mix the flattener in for you and more of it will create a flatter look while less will create a "Watte" look.

I assume without reading through this thread you are planning on using a real Gun and Real Paint(base, clear) and not trying to do this out of a rattle can.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Yeah, real gun, real paint. We mix paint and paint at my shop. Mostly cars, just recently did a Harley. Don't know that we have done any "flat" stuff so wasn't sure as to agents, ratios and all that. Just trying to get as much info before I go through with it. So you say to use a normal clear coat with a flattening agent added to it. Whats a good ratio for a pretty flat black paint color? Thanks Matt.

  6. Hope you feel better. Earlier this year I started to get out of bed and it hurt so much my wife had to help me lay back down. I can't recall doing anything that would have hurt it that much. Pain killers and a heat/massage pad were my friends the rest of the day. Hope you feel better.

Anyways, I have been wanting to talk to you. I am most likely repainting my bike this winter and thinking of going with flat black. Many people have referred me to you for questions as your work is top notch. I am painting it my self but don't know what I should use to clear the flat to keep it from scuffing but also keep the flat-ish finish? If you get a chance check out the thread and let me know if you have any ideas. http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=40389 Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

  7. Better chance to win the lottery...12 times...in a row...

Now THIS would scare the bejeezus out of me:

On June 21, 1994, Jose Martin of Spain was driving with his wife near Madrid when a 3-pound (1.4-kilogram) meteor crashed through his windshield, bent the steering wheel and ended up in the back seat.

  8. lol, wake up there. If he paints the "tank cover", be sure to use a fuel proof paint.
    Thats all you mang.

    Well maybe not that color.

Maybe a leopard print in jportes bike colors.

    PINK AND PURPLE. :D

Hmm, maybe if you wear your leapord print speedo?

  9. Sure has! Colored even, look at the Ninja 636's, like Kawi Kid's.

(They're actually the matte finish discussed earlier in this thread)

did you see that Harley Mike was woking on? I think it was Wingnut's bike. The whole thing was linex'ed. Even the license plate was linex'ed down to the bike.

    http://www.stuntlife.com/forums/2-stunt-discussion/228192-line-x-tank-dent.html

Scroll down there's a bike pic. I think it looks a little wierd. I think it's the white wheels and white shield thing. $160

On the right bike and in person it'd look good.

Don't think my bike would pull it off. Looks okay though.Would be awesome on a dirt/dual purpose bike.

  10. I think on a bike LineX would be under $200. I'd worry about the thickness in some spots but i think it would be cool. It doesn't get hot for some reason either. No hot legs. It'd be like a tank.

Or could go with colored line-x.

    LineX?

Oh yeah i just saw a bike with it not too long ago but cant remember where.

    Look good?

  11. I've never tried a clear coat over flat black.

But there are semi-gloss or "non-specular" type gloss black you can use.

The paint on my 919 isn't gloss and isn't flat.

It's a matt semi-gloss clear coat over black that is a pain in butt, I bet.

I think it's called a semi-gloss (or mat) eggshell clear coat. (Honda paint code NH436)

The Colorrite disclaimer says the one step won't hold up as well as the mat eggshell clear coat.

There's both a one step mat black that matches it pretty close

and a system of semi-gloss clear coat for use over primary coat.

It was used by Honda in 2002 and 2003 and 2004. (Called Asphalt Black)

one step mat finish flat black color coat:

    http://www.colorrite.com/product/honda-nh436-asphalt-1404.cfm

eggshell mat finish clear coat (KK8) for over a gloss primary color coat (urethane clear coat):

    http://www.colorrite.com/product/eggshell-urethane-clearcoat-pint-kit-1066.cfm

    http://www.colorrite.com/product/aerosol-kk8-eggshell-clearcoat-kit-1008.cfm

The one step is for matching existing eggshell paint jobs, since it's hard to match up.

And the mat clear coat is for painting it all from scratch.

I have no idea what the mat clear looks like over any other color other than black.

Never seen it done, but the eggshell mat finish is recently popular.

I'm sure there are some used by other manufacturers.

One more thing, if you paint the tank, use a paint or clear coat that is fuel proof.

edit: There are also clearcoat systems that will produce an eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss finish,

depending on which of three additives are mixed in with the clearcoat.

ok, the pdf locks up my computer, try this quick view:

Ya know, you don't post a hell of a lot, but when you do, you give a lot of info. Props to you. I'll look into that stuff.

He's good there, the "tank" is actually a cover....

Yep, the tank you see on the bike is just a plastic cover over the tank and airbox. But what I think what was meant was around the filler in case of spilt fuel.

Gump has a great Idea. Line-x it.

ummm....has that ever been done? On a sportsbike? :wtf::lol:
