  1. Another way to look at it, it takes more oxygen to burn 100% gasoline, which is better for efficiency. Any deeper on the subject and I will be over my head! It does sound like you have a good idea of what's going on, just from a different viewpoint!
  2. Unless the new tanks are lined with a different polymer that is tolerant of the ethanol content? Many of the cars and truck that are certified to run E85 have plastic tanks, so I'm sure it can be done.
  3. Actually, it's a ratio of how much fuel is needed for a complete burn in the engine. If ethanol takes less air per part of fuel (9.62 I think is what Brian posted?) than gasoline (14.7 for no ethanol content) you are using more fuel to fill the same volume. Say you have a cylinder that holds 15 liters (big engine!) fill it with 14.7 liters of air and one liter fuel. It is full. Fill it with 9.62 liters of ehtanol and one of fuel. Not full. You need to add both to keep the ratio correct, therefore, you use more fuel.
  4. Exactly. Well stated. Quit messing with our food supply. But, for once, I'll try to keep this on topic (a rarity around here! ) It's awesome that Ducati is stepping up to the plate on this one!
  5. Diesel is a totally different monster! Stoich is short stoichiometric. 100% gasoline takes 14.7 parts of air to one part of gasoline to burn the most efficiently. (Or is it most completely? I forget all the ins and outs of it all.) This is not ideal for all (not many) driving conditions, but typically what you will see in a steady state cruise, at least on a modern (fuel injected) car.
  6. I thought they were! I know that many used to, I don't pay that much attention any more. Wasn't Shell one of the few that had no ethanol before?
  7. Watch out for this squid. He likes to make people crash, or so I've heard.
  8. That's why some of the Ford Taurus's that had flex fuel on them had a distance to empty display in them, right in the instrument cluster. Isn't E85 something like 70-80% as much power as fuel? Once you get it down to the 10% (how accurate do you think this is?) in most pump gas, how much of a drop is it really? I think that's what the OP is looking for as well.
  9. Tom, yout talk as though have experience with this? I can't say it's a bad idea to use the kill switch, at least once in a while. It's good to have "muscle memory" for it in case you need it in an emergency. I have been using it, and forgetting to turn the key off, but fortunately the few times I have, someone has caught it and turned it off for me, or at least told me.
  10. But seriously, can you tell me when a GOOD week to break a couple fingers would be? I don't think anyone had any doubts!
  11. That's funny, we were told the exact opposite! I DO think there would be a pretty good chance of winning if you fight it, as long as you are very polite, and don't go in there acting like they owe it to you. GLWS
  12. Re-read what I said. I put the key to my statement in bold for you, just in case. Them, referring to the topic of this thread, dynabeads. Great question there Tom. The centrifugal force that holds them to the inner surface of the tire must be strong enough to hold them when hitting a bump. I've never heard anything about any ill effects after hitting a bump with them (dynabeads) in a tire.
  13. Come on Tom, you're not being very fun. To the noob, I will back down and say it is possible that the posts of an inactive member could get lower priority than an active members posts. Casper would have to chime in on this, and really, it's not important.
  14. But will it explain dynabeads?
  15. Oh, I'm sure there are many stories to be told about 270!
  16. No idea, i don't like to slab it on the interstate.
  17. Where are the rest of the resident enginerds when we need them?
  18. Don't have the $25 to be legal? Where did you get the $$ for gas? I have no sympathy. I went a couple days after I passed the BRC to see if it was in the system yet, and it wasn't. I went the next day to get the title done and plates for the second bike, and it checked again, and it was there. I made it a priority, even though I was legal anyway.
  19. Too many happy feet references for one day...
  20. Do the loop. All the way around 270. The faster you go, the better it is.
  21. Nice! Learning ATGATT early on! One of the boys was out riding his bicycle a couple weeks ago, on a hot day, with his black COAT on. He said he was riding a motorcycle! I was glad to see that he's learning from my example, but at the same time, I didn't want him to overheat!
