  1. My dad is going under the knife in the morning.

Some of you know that he has a glioblastoma, a pretty aggressive form of brain cancer. He was operated on a year ago labor day and they removed a tumor from the top of his brain. It has returned and moved over the frontal lobes of his brain where they cant just go in and get it.

Tomorrow the Dr.s at the James are doing an experimental procedure where they drill four holes in his head and basically inject some kind of radiation directly onto the tumor to try to kill it.

I've never been much of a religious sort, so I'm asking those of you that have connections to call in some favors for me. Pray, send good vibes or what ever you can his way. We appreciate it.

His name is Steve Detty and he is a member of the forum although he hasn't posted much, he reads it from time to time.

    Thanks.

Wow man, prayers are going up for you!

Even if you're not the "religious sort" He will listen to you, if you ask! ;)

  2. Nope, re-upped my temps a few times, but never got the M.

Showing off is the least of my concerns, I just want to be able to pass the test and not drop the bike. From what I understand, it's not as easy as it looks on paper.

If you've been riding much, you won't drop it or anything. There were only a few that were dropped in our class, one was my wife, she said her foot kept getting caught under the shifter, which I can see happening, seeing that she was used to the Ninja.

  3. It was boring for those that had been riding for a minute, although it was fun to try to push their bikes a little closer to the limits than I would my own. I had a dual sport too and got pretty good at doing stoppies with it. Instructor just kept shaking his head. I think I did drag a peg, once but I think the parkinglot was a little bit uneven. The one instructor told me to be careful because I was right on the edges of the tread as I did my turns.

It was funny how well that DS was stopping! It didn't appear to be grabby or anything, either! For anyone that might be thinking of taking at the Pataskala location, that parking lot sux.

If you're not on the edge, you're taking up space.... (or like chicken?)

One other thing to note, they WILL ride in the rain, as loong as it's not a major downpour and no lightning! If it looks like there might be rain, be sure to prepare for it! The morning class when we went was SOAKED when we got there, and it had settled to just a light drizzle for us.

  4. Yah.... it can work to your advantage or disadvantage. I was one of the only folks in our class that had rode more than 100 miles... the instructor was pushing me to put pegs down during the cornering tests... on a fucking dual sport. So during a break he grabs my bike and fucking ROCKS it through the turns... full handlebar lock at ~15-20 mph

Gets off the bike, looks at me and says, "you should be able to do that before the day is over"

Wow, I'm glas the instructors we had weren't nearly that arrogant! I know they are both excellent riders, one of them did manage to drag peg once or twice, and he's a hardley rider! The other guy is a test driver/rider, or something like that somewhere, I think it was TRC.

  5. Just locked in the last spot for 5/18. Finally getting my M!

What???? For some reason I thought you have your's!

The BRC is great. It's a bit boring if you've been riding, but they do everything that's on the test as part of the class, so most people have no problem at the end of the class when they run you through the test. Just don't go trying to show-off during the class since you already ride.

  6. Get "handcent sms" it replaces your text messaging app. it is titties! can change fonts, back rounds, bubbles, light colors, notification pics, all types of things! get the 4 font packs also

I have handscent on my hero. There are a few quirks about it that I don't like, and I've set the stock sms program back as default, but at least I can use Handscent when I need it to auto-resize an image before sending, which is nice.

  7. my 88 had completly broke in half behind the cab. I braced the hell out of it with 3/16 plate steel and it survived 10-12 trail rides and is still holding together.

    Probably stronger than when new!

  8. 75-300 lens. I'll be good, I do what I need to to get shots

Looking back at my last trip to Mid-Ohio, I was primarily using my 70-200 f/2.8 (Sigma, can't afford the Canon IS model) with a 1.4 TC on it. I was intentionally underexposing a little, to help get rid of some of the weird reflections off the nice shiny paint jobs. I was looking at about f/11 and about 1/1000 shutter, @ ISO 100. I probably shoulda opened up the aperature a little and dragged the shutter a bit more to motion blur the tires, to get the sense of motion a little more.

  9. Not to rain on you parade or anything, but have you shot at the track before? What sort of equipment do you have? I think I read about you looking for Canon lenses. I wouldn't mess with much less than a 70-200 f/2.8 IS on a 40D or better (or newer counterparts.) The 6.5 FPS I can click off on the 40D is gonna be cool fo rthe track. I didn't make it there this year, and I just got the 40D almost a year ago.

I've been up to mid-ohio for the Indycars, and it is VERY difficult to even get a car in your shot when they're at speed.

  10. Thanks! It's about time it got on line. Yeah, it reads the same for the public place part.

edit: notice that it's different for sounding of horn. Whitehall has an extra that is not in Ohio code:

© No person shall use the horn of a motor vehicle except to give warning to other drivers or pedestrians.

They had it tucked away in some weird place on their website. Like a button in the middle of the council page, or something like that.

I think that verbage is similar to most municipalities.

Summary: Don't use your horn unless it's really necessary, and don't be an ass about it.

    /thread?

  11. I'm just screwin' with ya. Carb'd V8s have their place. I'm just a fan of the preciseness offered by a good fuel injection system.

Which is why it will be getting EFI installed one day. I have many of the parts, electronics, etc... I just need to get the intake (to fit vortec style heads, planning on using the stealth ram) and fuel rails and pump.

I am thinking about a 350 or 4.3 for my jeep. The gnx motor was juat a flat out a bad idea in a offroad vehicle. 3 weeks to build, and about 1 hour to blow it up.

Wow! I would've figured a GNX motor would've lasted longer than that.

  12. Carbs are ghey. Go LSx or go home. :p

When I started to put this engine together the LS1 had only been out for about a year, and everything was super expensive for them. For what I have wrapped up in my 350, I could have a LSx swap now. I wasn't about to wait for the LSx to mature enough to be affordable. If I had it to do again now, I would most certainly go the LSx route..

  13. Since I'm oretty sure all these vehicles are throttle by wire, I wonder how many other manufacturers used parts from the same supplier? I hear something about chinese full-sized Ford trucks being in question for this reason.

Sometimes I just want a carburetor sitting on top of V-8.... Oh wait, I have one sitting outside!

  14. We have a 2009 Camry. I have to say, it kinda worries me.

If I had one, I wouldn't be so worried. If it sticks (doubtful until it gets some age an wear on it from what I've read :dunno:) just turn the ignition back one click to the off or acc position, and be aware that the power assist is no longer there for the steering or brakes, and get it to the side of the road. You could also just pop it into neutral and let the rev limiter do it's job, while you keep power steering.
