  1. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the issue. Im not sure what you mean by the midrange hybrid?

A midrange hybrid is what I've seen called "DSLR-like" in many places. It's not just a "box", but it had a lens that protrudes. They have better lenses inside, and usually better photo sensors.

  2. I need some camera input pros and cons. I have always had the small Canon PowerShot style cameras. Do I need SLR. Looking at Nikon D5000, Olympus Evolt E520 and Canon EOS 50D any help would be great.

My personal opinion, if you don't already know if you need (or could benefit from) a SLR, then you don't.

I started with a film SLR, and didn't know what to do with it, and left it in "green box" or fully auto mode a LOT. One thing I DID utilize was the different focal lengths of the lenses. That IS an additional cost, however, and I have more in lenses than I do my camera (40D which I bought new in Feb, just before the baby arrived!) and that was moreso the case before with my Digital Rebel.

After I got my D-SLR, I started learning (again) about what the different settings do (Shutter speed, aperature, ISO, and so on) and from then on, I can't remember the last time I used a camera in "Green Box" mode. There are many shots I have taken that would NOT have been any good had I been in Auto mode.

www.dpreview.com is a good resource for comparing specs. When comparing brands against each other, you really need to get some hands on with them, as most people prefer one brande over the rest, for example, I have Canon, and can't see myself ever switching to anything else (partly because they are the best, and partly because of the investment I have in lenses!)

If you go with Canon, check out www.photography-on-the.net/forum or actually, you can learn a lot about photography in general there, as most of the stuff isn't brand specific, just don't tell them you use Nikon if that's what you choose! There are MANY tutorials, and discussions about almost anything photo that you can think of! Another good resource is www.fredmiranda.com dame deal, except not brand specific.

  3. Everything but pay the bills and bid work. Theyre a general contractor, Im a welder, CDL driver, mechanic, equipment opperator, parts guy, shop guy, babysitter, shoulder to cry on, guy to bitch at, guy that covers for the ones who should be getting bitched at instead, run some smaller projects and best of all teach some of the other higher up guys running the bigger jobs how to do thier job like turn on the computer, send emails, send faxes you know the really hard shit that my 8 year old can do .

So yea pretty much everything , now our hours are dissappearing, perks are gone, matching is gone and Im really not sure how much longer they'll be around.

Nice job description! Put it on a resume, and you should be in with anyone!

  4. granda, have you had any more time to think about the situation? (if you're anything like me you've probably replayed it about 100000000 times)....

Any more insight onto what you did wrong?

From the sounds of things, grabbing rear brake, and letting out on the clutch while too hot into a turn, one of the two broke traction, but not by a lot, but enough to upset the bike once it regained traction.

Just my observation from what he said in the OP.

Definately some things to get me thinking in this thread. Another great thing about the OR community, learning from what others have experienced.

  5. if you are ever in a situation where you feel like you need to grab some front or back brake because you are too fast into the turn... dont.

Most of the time I've been too hot into a corner, I usually end up still grabbing some throttle on the way out! That's not to say that I'll enter as hot the next time, but just proof to me that the bike can do more than I have confidence to do.

It doesn't help that my bike is 25 years old, and has the suspension to prove it!

  6. hehe

I'm not sure why it stuck in my head so hard, but during the MSF we were taught, if you lock the rear, don't let go until you stop. I was following a buddy from work and he braked hard for a light (so I didn't have to run it) and I hit an oil patch...

All I could think was "don't let go, don't let go"... held that skid for a good 25-50 feet... but it felt like an eternity!

The bad part of that is you flat spot a tire like that.

THAT's exactly right, if you lock the rear, keep it locked until you stop, or lay it down. That will avoid a highside. As I said, when the rear grabs back traction, and starts spinning again, it tries to get back straight and vertical, and THAT is what casuses the highside.

  8. gotta get a bike suitable for the track first ;)

but yah, I sometimes "forget" I have rear brakes (2 of my friends don't even have front brakes on their customs)... as far as braking goes, the "risk" to using the front brake seems WAY lower than the "risk" of rear brake.

I lean the Vulcan pretty hard, but not enough... I swapped out pegs and that gave me quite a bit extra lean, now it's just my kickstand that drags. I usually just don't estimate the turn well enough and end up a little too fast, I can put the bike pretty far over but not far enough by any means, as for leaving the turn, I usually hit it pretty hard... exiting the turn isn't the hard part :) it's entering it! lol

There's one really nice sweeper by me that I keep pushing, but it seems no matter what I do I enter it too hot and end up having to brake a little... but this could be just me needing to "suck it up"

Suck it up typing cat! The bike WILL do more than you will likely have the confidence to take it. There's a thread somewhere about corner entry confidence, take a look for it. It was a few months ago, I think.

If you have to brake in a turn, you want to use the front, because if you lock it up (since being on the side of the tire, you'll have less traction) you will lowside. If the rear locks up, when it grabs traction again, instant highside. I know I've said this before, sounding like a broken record (does anyone even remember what those are?) but it's important to have this engrained into your mind. If you have to brake hard (such as to panic stop) try to upright the bike as best as you can.

  9. were not in a marine environment lol (but i see what your saying)

The OP is looking for something to put in a boat. Not saltwater, but stuff on a boat is considered marine, typically. Aquariums, saltwater is considered marine.

I looke at those Soundsplinters, and their Premium line looke decent. The one that you linked to, the supreme looks like more bling than sing to me. I haven't heard either to know, just my impression from their site.

  10. thanks to everyone on here who gave sympathy and respect. i think and hope everyone is doing ok for the circumstances. police found the bike in 5th gear and the tach stuck @ 8,000 rpms. guessing he was in the triple digits, and he left a 180 ft skid mark before a stop sign. the police think he locked up his brakes and highsided which flung him off the bike. helmet was pretty beat up. a lady found him laying next to a telephone pole dead. they dont know if he hit it or not. be careful out there guys and gals. once again thanks to all of you.

Man, the details are always scary to read about.

Be strong dude. I hope you don't mind me saying it, but I hope that someone, somewhere learns a lesson from this.

  11. mach 5 isnt on the same level as a w7..dp seems comparable, same price. same price i will go jl w7.

Maybe I'm just too far out of the loop, but those other brands don't seem that good. I'm not a big fan of paper cones, and all the "gimmicks" they list as features...

  12. I thought Mt.RushmoreofFags was the werd???

On second thought isn't "Fag" the werd?

    Bluhbluhbluhbluhbluhbluh. Etc. Etc.

And Mr Griffin himself chimes in!

Funny thing is, I could actually imagine you, or Moose doing Bird is the Word annoying the shit out of people!

  13. WTF? Are you drunk already or concentrating on her picture a little too much.

 She just seems to be dealing with everyone pretty well! She doesn't seem to be bothered by the kind of antics that go on around here, with a few of the comments made in this thread.

And :wtf: is up with the single "L" in Michele? I just hadn't seen it much until the last few years, maybe I'm just too old to be cool, and in the loop anymore....
