  1. Correct on the decrease in injuries and/or fatalities overall per miles ridden.

I fear Friday evenings. About twice as dangerous in the city, at that time.

Exactly why I try to stay out of heavily trafficked areas. I have no fear of riding on the freeway, but if there's a back road that is less travelled, there are likely fewer opportunities to get involved in a crash, plus the roads are typically more fun to ride! A good example would be the route I take to Iron Pony. I take 62 to walnut rd in to New Albany, central college rd to sunbury rd, to dempsey to 3. It really doesn't take much longer (if any longer) than slabbing it down 161, and it's more relaxed, not as much looking over the shoulder for the idiots that don't know how to change lanes, etc.... that you get on 161.

  2. I know a coupls excellent machine shops in Licking county, but I don't know about any discount. All of them I know are pretty reasonable on price to begin with. Two of them, I don't know that they do any port and polish stuff, but the rest is good in the hood.

Machine work is where you don't want to cut corners, and asking for a discount could lead to them rushing your work.

  3. eh, the Cols zoo just doesnt excite me much anymore. I grew up there as a kid and was there all the time. Did all those zoo programs. My dad worked there and still does, so usually when I go it is for something special.

However sir, you are usually the exception to most of the rules....

At least the ones regarding the Zoo! Shouldn't you be on the other side of the bars and glass there?

  4. Bite me :) Why don't you go buy a 3rd bike?

If I see one for the right price I'd check it out for sure... but noone wants to get rid of them!

:dunno: Why wouldn't they want to get rid of a POS? Sorrym but I just don't like Datsuns.

  5. And the Zoo is fun for the adult kids, too! WE need a trip out there sometime, I didn't even think of it though!

My diversion from riding today was the fiasco of trying to get the wifes broken cell phone taken care of. I'm thinking I need to use it for target practice after this!

First store was an hour waiting our turn, just to find out they can't do anything there, we had to go to Easton. Ugh. The good thing is that once we got into their queue, it was only a few minutes. Explained what the issue was (stuck camera button) they said come back in an hour. From there the guy says we have to order a new one, ship it here, or your billing address? Really, I wish they had let me do that over the phone last night, but NO, then I wouldn't get to see all the new ones, and give them the opportunity to make more money.

  6. Look at the BMW 323 Ci. It's the lower power straight six. My buddy has one and it's a really great car.

Speaking of which, I know of one in Dayton for sale right now. Seems like a good price. Disclaimer: I don't know this guy. Just saw the car on a local car forum.

Right, because those are SO cheap to maintain and repair. And yes my friend, BMW's DO break.

  7. It's all gravy :) I think I'm struggling because I don't know exactly what I want... I'm waiting for something to jump out at me and nothing has...

Go drive some stuff! You won't know until you drive it, whether you really like it.

  8. Very nice info indeed.

The helmet question has be a bit baffled also, but the replies made here make it a bit more clear.

It is reassuring to see that the fatalities and injuries per million road miles is down quite a bit, even though the raw numbers are up. When put into perspective, things are better out there. Even though more people are getting hurt, there are many more out there to be hurt, and over the course of more miles ridden.

I find the time of day for deaths to be quite interesting as well.

  9. As a reference point, nobody actually taught me how to ride. I jumped on and went! That's just how I am, if it has wheels, I'm good to go!

Had I been through some structured teaching of some sort, I would have been a better teacher. We both went through the BRC together (stayed away from each other during the class) and we both learned a lot. I'm sure I'll be teaching her a refresher next spring when we get to ride again.

  10. mmmm, too glaring jbot... you gotta use normal type for filler.

"So i walked over to the watermelon and was like "What's up watermelon?" Needless to say the watermelon did not answer me, but just 5 minutes prior I genuinely believed the melon, the lifeless fruit sitting on my front porch, to be some sort of omniscient being. I mean, how else would it have ended up on my porch? "

^^^^ write that in the middle of your paper.

    :D

NOw THAT is some deep thinking right there!

  11. I've learned never to teach anyone that lives in your house anything you can do.

Although that didn't stop me from trying to teach the wife to ride. Two times I've tried. The first on the Triumph, lesson over in about the time it took me to get on the street. The second time on the honda. It will be hers if she learns how to ride. I had her power walking and just starting to get her feet up but then I think she started to get scared and wanted to quit.

I hope she learns soon because she is a horrible passenger.

    Good luck to you though.

It doesn't sound like she wants to learn all that badly yet. My wife would not give up. She was determined, and that helped... Now the goal is to get her out on the road some more, but that's going to be next year, since it's gotten colder....

  12. yea at this rate it would have taken me into the century to get my truck. there is zero-low % rates right now. and hell of delas of 09 models

It would happen quicker than you think. In my situation, financing is not even an option, for 2 reasons. One, my credit sux balls, second, since I've gotten into too big of a mess too many times, I've decided that credit is not a good thing for me to be using. Besides, I can have money in the bank MAKING money, instead of paying someone interest. If I had a NEED for a vehicle, I might think a bit differently, but I don't need a bigger, better, or more expensive vehicle to live my life! My car is worth maybe $1500, but it's paid for, still runs great, and looks decent. It also helps that when anything breaks on it, I have the resources to fix it!

New cars = loss all around, just something I'm not in a position to take on.

  13. Smartest thing I've read' date=' all day.[/quote']

And it was even from a 'tard like me! LOL

Seriously though, we're trying to get control of our financial situation, and one thing we've been taught is that you are much better off saving up for a car than to finance one. Save what you would put into a car payment, and you'll be able to buy something and be paid off sooner. If you keep saving, and trade up every year, you eventually have a much nicer vehicle, since you don't lose a huge amount over 1 year on a used car.

Example, you can afford a $400 car payment. Save that amount for 10 months, you have $4000. Sell that $4000 car a year later for $3000+, add $4000 - 5000 that you would have been putting into a payment, you now have $8000. It's just hard to get started on this, since you need something to drive while saving the first amount to buy with.

  14. Are you looking at private sellers, too? Once you know what you want, keep an eye out, and I bet you can get as good, if not better deal than you'd get from a (new or used) dealer. It may take a little longer to find what you want for the price you want, but MOST private sellers I've dealt with seem MUCH more honest than any dealer.

  15. I think I'm taking the SV back from the wife and get her a proper girls bike like a 2fiddy neenjer. :D

Then SHE can get made fun of for her bike sounding like the fan on your Z!

I have fun on the lil neenjer! I even had the front wheel of the ground, shifting from first to second the last time I rode it (probably only about an inch, but I was impressed!) It's not so bad, until I get back on the veefer, and realize how slow it really is!
