2013 Ducati Hyperstrada 821, ABS/TC/3 ride modes, approx 16K miles, factory luggage, center stand, Ducati tank bag. Includes Pitbull rear stand with 2 axle pins. New tires, belts done and many recent expensive new parts. Yes, there's a story here.... In the interest of full disclosure, I bought this last spring from Pauly and have actually put fewer miles on it than it traveled in my trailer to/from Commonwealth Ducati in Louisville. Took it for my first ride and BOOM....the ECU crapped out literally 2 miles from home. Turned out there was an open recall that neither Pauly nor the previous selling dealer had completed which fried the ECU and the TFT dash. PLEASE NOTE!!! I am not ascribing blame to Pauly, nor do I think he intentionally or knowingly sold a pig in a poke. Sometimes, life hands out shit sandwiches when dabbling in used vehicles...especially those manufactured in a country with a tri-color flag. He actually stepped up and offered to help cover some of the repair costs (I declined the offer) so....solid guy. Commonwealth completed the recall which involved replacing all the coil packs and luckily for me, Ducati NA stepped up and comped the expensive parts to the tune of more than $3000. I paid another grand for new coil packs and sundry labor charges. Bottom line, all is good with the bike (according to Commonwealth) but I have little love lost for this gorgeous lady....she has to go. If you think you're emotionally strong enough to suffer the slings and arrows of tumultuous love and favor all things Italian, this deal is calling your name. I did this in 2018. Bought a bike in Dallas. It worked out mainly because I had a bud there who helped me with the transaction. Sent him a check, he bought and picked up the bike, mailed me the title and pics of the bike and the VIN. Took those to a MC dealer here (who I have had several dealings with) to get the VIN verified for in-state inspection, then transferred the title into my name and bought an OH plate. Put it on the bike before the ride, rode it to CA and then back across UT/CO/AZ/NM to home. It obviously worked well because of the help I had with the out-of-state purchase. FYI...avoid riding across west TX at all costs. Truly the armpit of the US. Far worse than Kansas.

It is a use-it-or-lose-it skill, but it comes back pretty quickly. Every spring, it takes a few hundred or more miles to bring back the reaction and motor skills. Modern bike engineering and tire compounds are improving faster than my skills are degrading. At 70, not sure how long that'll hold true....
-
Wait...sexiest is already taken? And here I was thinkin' that 70 is the new 45. Problem with being that old is that when you hit the bars hoping to be picked up by a cougar, you gotta start looking for places that cater to the 85 yo crowd....ya know, bingo halls and senior centers on duplicate bridge nights.

Well FARK!!! I'm gonna have to upgrade from my '09 WeeStrom if I'm gonna be anywhere close to king shit in this forum.... 😣

Would this be an appropriate thread to insert a "Merry Christmas, y'all" here? I didn't think OR drama started until sometime around mid-January....? As an honest question from an old techno-grouch, can phones that are GPS-enabled be used without a carrier contract, similar to a dedicated GPS unit, if you download Googlemap files?

best Ohio (or N. Ky) place for trails/camping? new guy questions
Bubba replied to caspian's topic in Play in the Dirt
Not clear from your post if your son is experienced (or not) but when it comes to new riders in the dirt--or for that matter, on the street--a good rule is "Less is more"....whether you're talking about weight, HP, or seat height. If he's just venturing into the dirt, I'd suggest a 200-250cc DS. The KDX 200/250 was a great little bike that dragged my 200# ass all over the trails of KY and TN with minimal fuss, maintenance or drama. -
If you've never been, prepare for your jaw to hit the floor when you walk in! The place is a homage to the motorcycle! Since you'll likely be rolling down I-65 thru Bowling Green, make a fun stop and take in the Corvette museum...plus the sort side trip to Art's, which is a combination vintage car sales/museum collection. Small admission charge is worth the fun. http://www.artsvett.com/

If you haven't been to the museum at Barber yet, it is THE QUINTESSENTIAL DESTINATION for any motorcycle enthusiast/gearhead. Pretty much every boys wet dream! Farther away, the aspens of Colorado are spectacular that time of year. Have fun and be sure to send some postcards home!

Speaking of faggy (Is that a real word?) science, a recent article that offer hope for severely ill COVID patients. Won't help with the spread, so continue to wear your mask and don't do stupid stuff like french kissing your second cousin from South Beach Miami, but it might help reduce the fatality rate. https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/this-could-be-the-coronavirus-achilles-heel-researchers-say/ar-BB16m90I?ocid=msedgntp

After living 7/10ths of a century: gut feelings = established science with research-based factual data with a p=0.05 statistical significance.

I'm neither a doctor nor an epidemiologist, but my gut is telling me the cause of the spike we're seeing is two-fold: 1) a major factor is the broad re-opening and resultant increased social contact, and 2) I believe the virus has mutated and the viral count is increasing because the most prevalent variant worldwide is now about 10x more contagious. Hopefully, the same mutation won't also be far more deadly, but that remains to be seen over the next month or two. https://www.complex.com/life/2020/06/researchers-covid-19-mutation-made-virus-more-contagious

Have this exact soft pannier set. Bought 'em used many years ago and have made many multi-week trips to NC/GA, CO/UT, and FL. The rain covers aren't totally water-proof so I always pack my clothes in 1-gal zip-lock bags. Still work and function as new, although a bit sun-bleached. These will outlast your prostate gland....

In truth, a true democracy can ONLY work when you have an well-educated voting populace, one of the reasons that only land owners were allowed to vote when our country was established, as they were essentially the most well educated who had a stake in the outcome of the country's direction. What we technically have historically is a republic, or at least a hybrid system combining democracy with a republic. Allowing the ignorant, the uninformed and the uneducated to vote, while a rampantly popular idea on citizen rights, is a recipe for disaster over many decades. As soon as the majority discovers for themselves or are urged or "told" they can vote themselves free benefits at the largesse of the tax-paying minority, it becomes a socialist democracy, which is where we're headed rapidly. Sanders, Warren, Booker, Yang, Harris...name your progressive of choice. I know that sounds terribly "privileged", but it is our history. If we could somehow instill the understanding of the need for EVERYONE to exercise their right to vote, so that a thin majority truly represents the "will of the people", then we could have a functional democracy. When you have voter turnouts of 20-25% of registered voters, you effectively have the will of a 10-15% minority imposing their will on the 80%+ majority....and we allow it because we're too f'ing lazy or busy or disconnected to make our desire known.
