  1. Wow!! Didn't see this one coming: None other than the Reverend Jesse Jackson appeared in public with Duncan's mother, raising the specter of legal action against the hospital as he condemned Duncan's treatment. 'He got sick and went to the hospital and was turned away, and that's the turning point here,' the Rev Jackson, a spokesman for the family, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Brilliant! Jesse as usual you get right to the heart of the matter. Of course there is that one pesky detail of him not telling the doctors he had Ebola in the first place. But I'm sure Jesse, you will find a way around that. Brilliant!
  2. never mind, that trick was on the old board.
  3. http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=123359 Kelly: Southcom Keeps Watch on Ebola SituationBy Jim Garamone DoD News, Defense Media Activity WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2014 – The potential spread of Ebola into Central and Southern America is a real possibility, the commander of U.S. Southern Command told an audience at the National Defense University here yesterday. “By the end of the year, there’s supposed to be 1.4 million people infected with Ebola and 62 percent of them dying, according to the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention],” Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly said. “That’s horrific. And there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa.” If it comes to the Western Hemisphere, many countries have little ability to deal with an outbreak of the disease, the general said. “So, much like West Africa, it will rage for a period of time,” Kelly said. This is a particularly possible scenario if the disease gets to Haiti or Central America, he said. If the disease gets to countries like Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador, it will cause a panic and people will flee the region, the general said. “If it breaks out, it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States,” Kelly said. “They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.”
  4. Not sure this belongs in the Politics section but it seems to be the best fit. Wondered when somebody was going to put this together. Seems kinda obvious in retrospect. Last count was 45 states in about two weeks. Seems unlikely it would spread so fast by itself. Yes, it is from a blog, not a "REAL" News source, but they, (The Real News) can't be that far behind them. ==== Link to Illegal Immigrant Children? Enteroviruses commonly circulate in the U.S. during summer and fall. EV-D68 was first identified in California in 1962. Over the past thirty years, only small numbers were reported in the U.S. The CDC hasn’t suggested reasons for the current uptick or its origin. Without that answer, some question whether the disease is being spread by the presence of tens of thousands of illegal immigrant children from Central America admitted to the U.S. in the past year. The origin could be entirely unrelated. However, a study published in Virology Journal,1 found EV-D68 among some of the 3,375 young, ill people tested in eight Latin American countries, including the Central American nations of El Salvador and Nicaragua, in 2013. (See Fig. 3) http://www.virologyj.com/content/10/1/305/figure/F3 Though the U.S. government is keeping secret the locations of the illegal immigrant children, there are significant numbers of them in both cities in which the current outbreak was first identified, Kansas City, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois, according to local advocates and press reports. CDC list of states with confirmed EV-D68 cases2 The EV-D68 outbreak was first recognized3 after Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri notified CDC on August 19 of an increase in severe respiratory illnesses. Four days later, on August 23, the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital notified CDC of a similar increase. ===== The link. http://sharylattkisson.com/polio-like-outbreak-claims-fifth-life-in-u-s Some other interesting stuff is in the article as well info on how to keep your kids from getting this virus. Or at least doing the best you can with it seeing as it mostly attacks children. Ebola is getting the big headlines while in fact more people are dying from this one. That, and kids being paralyzed. 1) http://www.virologyj.com/content/10/1/305 2) http://www.cdc.gov/non-polio-enterovirus/outbreaks/EV-D68-states.html 3) http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6336a4.htm
  5. Man Who Set Phoenix The Puppy On Fire Shot In Groin, Cops Say. A New York man convicted of setting a dog on fire in 2012 was shot in the groin last Monday. Buffalo resident Adell Ziegler, 21, made headlines when he and a friend were convicted of setting a Jack Russell Terrier on fire, the Buffalo News reported at the time. The 16-month-old puppy, named Phoenix, was doused in lighter fluid and set on fire by the two men. Phoenix suffered burns to 30 percent of his body, according to the Examiner. Ziegler pleaded guilty to felony aggravated animal cruelty and was sentenced to two years in prison. Last Monday morning, Ziegler was shot in the groin and buttocks area, police told Buffalo News. The animal abuser is listed in stable condition. Phoenix was adopted last year by one of the veterinary staff who treated the injured pup. No arrests have been made in the shooting. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/08/puppy-fire-shot-groin_n_5951528.html +++++ I'm sure the cops are looking real hard for the guy that shot him.

  7. WTF?!?! http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/2933142-181/motorcyclist-who-jumped-nude-from#page=1\ A turkey on Highway 1 caused a Canadian motorcycle rider to crash sometime early Monday, and the man told investigators he then walked to a coastal bluff and jumped off, naked. The 27-year-old Alberta man had shed his clothing as he walked and was found, nude and seriously injured, on rocks about 40 feet below a coastal bluff in Salt Point State Park. The CHP is investigating the man’s crash and a Sonoma County sheriff’s investigator is looking into what happened afterward, including whether he was trying to die or hurt himself or acted because of his injuries, said CHP spokesman Officer Jon Sloat. The man wasn’t identified as his mental health was being evaluated. The investigators Tuesday afternoon interviewed the hospitalized man, who has moderate injuries including a head wound. He was headed south, bound for South America for a job, he told investigators. The turkey reportedly appeared while he was riding on the coast highway near Kruse Ranch Road. The man initially told some rescuers he thought he’d crashed as early as about midnight Sunday and that he didn’t remember anything between riding on the highway and then finding himself on the rocks, said Tim Murphy, supervising state parks lifeguard. At about 5 a.m., a driver spotted a downed motorcycle on the side of the highway and some riding gear. Without cell service, the driver drove further south, calling to alert authorities as they approached the Russian River. +++++ Read more of the weirdness at the link above...

  9. TA-DA!!! http://www.myfoxdfw.com/story/26723442/jesse-jackson-heading-to-dallas-to-help-ebola-patient DALLAS - The Rev. Jesse Jackson is in Dallas Tuesday to make sure Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan is getting the best medical care possible. ====== Turns out Ebola is racist and liberal! Who knew? Good thing a savvy media professional is there to help us better understand it all. Thanks Jesse!
  10. Much talk on both sides of the coin on this one. Interesting to note the main heat source for planet earth is almost never figured into the equations. That would be the Sun, which does not have a fixed output. Solar activity does make a difference. With that said, the ability of the poles and heat sink actions of the oceans would seem to be a factor in the regulation of the Earths temperature. Although as understood today what that role is seems to be unclear. But seeing it in action looks like it does something. On the other hand, government funding for research that does not result in something to tax, seems a little far fetched. To be fair our government does fund some things seemingly just out of curiosity such as this one; http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/wp/2014/09/02/why-the-federal-government-spent-3-million-to-study-lesbian-obesity/ Which was one of my biggest concerns </s>
  11. A Harley-Davidson motorcycle stolen from a police officer’s Charlotte, NC, backyard in 1972 was intercepted at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport and returned to its legal owner Thursday. The 1954 Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide was on its way to Australia when it was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), according to KACB-TV. North Carolina resident Edgar Johnson Jr. is getting the bike because his father died four years ago. “My dad would be tickled to get it back if he was still alive,” Johnson told CNNMoney. “I miss my dad so much. This is like a piece of him is coming back home.” His father always regretted never being able to recover the stolen motorcycle, KABC-TV reported. “He loved his motorcycle and he talked about it till the day he died,” he said. Johnson plans to display the bike at auto shows, and he expressed his gratitude to those who helped recover it. “I thank every, each one of them, from the bottom of my heart, and I know my father does too,” said Johnson. “I actually love this part of the job, especially when it’s a happy ending like this, and it’s not in pieces,” said CHP investigator Michael Mareta.and when they get this stuff back, it’s like reliving their youth, so it’s amazing to us,” said special agent Lou Koven of the NICB. The CHP told KACB-TV that they were unable to discover who stole the vehicle in 1972. They traced the motorcycle through four previous owners, but the older of them is deceased, leaving the trail cold. Johnson seemed happy just to have the bike back in the family. “Words can’t describe how I’m feeling today,” said Johnson. “It’s wonderful.” \http://abc7.com/news/stolen-harley-davidson-motorcycle-found-after-42-years/334895/#videoplayer http://abc7.com/video/embed/?pid=334895
  12. CDC director: Travel ban could make Ebola outbreak worse http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/219786-cdc-director-travel-ban-could-make-ebola-outbreak-worse A travel ban to the countries facing an Ebola outbreak could paradoxically make the problem worse, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden said during a Saturday press conference. Frieden said the CDC would consider any and all precautions, but warned that a travel ban could make it harder to get medical care and aid workers to regions dealing with the outbreak. He cited the recent delay African Union aid workers experienced trying to get to Liberia. "Their ability to get there was delayed by about a week because their flight was canceled and they were stuck in a neighboring country," he said. **** Sure sounds funny to me. Isolate the patients but have free travel to and from the country? Here is one answer to that. Problem solved. Edit: Added link.

  16. Very cool looking. An earlier prototype of the Flying Roadster by Slovakian company AeroMobil reportedly took its first test flight in October last year. The latest version will be tested a day before its premiere, on 28 October. Company co-founder Juraj Vaculik said that AeroMobil had sped up the prototyping process after having seen “enthusiastic reactions of the global engineering and design community”. Weighing 450 kg, with carbon-fibre wings that fold behind the cabin and a flight top speed of 124mph, the two-seater promises to be more of a flying sports car than a flying family car. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/02/flying-car-aeromobil-vienna-pioneers-festival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plNO7fntQkY#t=97
