Very agile two stroke that could out run bikes twice its size.With the right rider it couldn't be caught. Except in a straight line on the highway where bigger displacement would catch up after 90 -110 mph. Was referred to as a "Get away" bike. On a twisty road, forget about it, it's gone. Oh yea, did I mention wheelies? :wheeliezx10: In those days there were a lot of smaller bikes. 250’s, 350’s, 450’s, 550’s. People rode 185’s on the street all the time. A 650 was a big bike. Most people rode the smaller bikes like the CB 350, a very popular model. And then there were the Triumphs and Harleys and the Euro bikes, Beamers and the like. After Harley bought themselves back from AMF they got a law passed for a tariff which pretty much killed them off. The EPA got in on it too and killed off two-strokes so it was the end of an era. I’m sure sentimental value has something to do with it as well.

Salt Flats fast. A few months back, the bike set a record of 172.2 mph at Bonneville, making it the fastest big block v-twin engine on two wheels. Confederate says that number equates to about 200 mph on the street. You’d think that hitting that speed with a 500-pound motorcycle (plus rider) would be no big deal, but drag and engine size form a performance plateau that’s hard to break through. But what confederate has done with a V-twin engine used to be the exclusive parlance of superbikes like the BMW S1000RR – with two more cylinders. And with no aerodynamic fairings to cut through the wind, the real engineering genius is all in the engine, with a displacement of 2,163cc good for 160 bhp and 160 lb-ft of torque. The rest of the bike is a monument to obsessive precision. The engine, transmission, swingarm pivot and frame are mounted into a singular core made of aircraft-grade 6061 billet aluminum, and Confederate built the transmission with a patented drag race powertrain, including a vertical stack transmission tied to the swingarm pivot. The chassis has 3-inch-thick steel tubing throughout the bike, all with hand-welded joints. Carbon fiber wheels (17 by 3.5 inches in the front and 17 by 6 inches in the rear) keep weight low. The 72 Yamaha R5 350cc is the precursor to the famed Yamaha RD series. A lot of parts are interchangeable and there is tons of stuff on ebay for these old school sleepers. They handle well and can out corner and out accelerate bigger bikes with ease being as they are very light and have the two stroke engines that wind up in a hurry. Ignition is a weak point, no pun intended but they do go through points and plugs. Until you get the hang of the two stroke motor you will be fouling plugs pretty regularly. Still using Firefox 80% of the time. Tried Chrome a couple of times and didn't like the lack of control over browser behavior. Lack of options or worse assumed options that were either a pain to change or could not be changed. It's fast but doesn't offer the same number of add ons. One of the prime ones that firefox has is greasemonkey, ah the choices you have with that one.
