  1. So what time you going to be there? I'm just doing it for fun, after all I ride the strom in a lot worse stuff and always have fun doing it. Hell even in an enduro I'd be more into just riding than necessarily keeping time. I just hope it doesn't rain, I hate riding in rain, to many years doing outdoors labor I guess. PS I think I'm older than you.
  2. Hardest part will be reading the roll chart while riding. Unless you have a tank bag with a map holder so you can read the sheet while riding. 50MPH, stop, pull out chart, read, put chart away, go, reach next turn, stop, read chart, put it away, go like hell again, hope I'm not to fast or slow.
  3. Posted for those looking for some adventure riding on the dual sport bikes. http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv196/ARROW008/ROADENDURO.jpg A special enduro for those not necessarily into offroad riding. Event organizers recommend a MC you are capable and proficient at riding in gravel. I'm going to try to attend on the V-strom. It will be my first time riding it.

    48÷2(9+3)=?

After consulting my step father who is good enough at math to have tutored me through diff-Q, I feel very comfortable with the answer being 288. I denounce all other answer as heracy.

  7. What do I know, all my tires have knobs on them. Unless you count my tourances but then I prefer the old style vs the new one.

I learned something new on OR, thank Casper. 1. Perform the operations inside Parentheses first 2. Then Exponents 3. Then Multiplication and Division, from left to right 4. Then Addition and Subtraction, from left to right 5. You can also create a little phrase to memorize the sequence: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally:D
  9. Online, the inter web is your friend. prices for a dunlop D207ZR Radial Rear Tire: Dennis Kirk $168 Rock mtn $166 Motorcycle superstore $176 Maybe you could also try another brand? http://motorcycle.motorcycle-superstore.com/search?p=R&srid=S11%2d2&lbc=motorcyclesuperstore&w=180%2f55ZR18&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2emotorcycle%2dsuperstore%2ecom%2f3%2f31%2f401%2f15670%2fITEM%2fBridgestone%2dExedra%2dG850%2dRear%2dTire%2easpx&rk=3&uid=535836629&sid=2&ts=ajax&rsc=FCjO3gbsHeN2gB70&cnt=24&method=and&isort=score&view=grid

If it were written like this would anyone have an argument? 48 ---- * (9+3) 2

I quote that because it was the closest to my reasoning and it was a better explanation than I could write. As I said earlier it is a poorly formated equation and I have never liked Goodyear tires.
  12. You know the shop in the old building you never really had a reason to check out? Well, today I did. Fayette on 254 West High Street in London right by the intersection of 38 and 42 had a bunch of dirt bike helmets in the window that got my attention. Talked with the owner (Mark Passwaters), seemed like a nice guy. Had some used cruisers on the floor but didn't really look at prices. Seemed like a good place to stop and get a oil filter tube if I needed one asap. Not a huge supply so I'd call first (740)852-1880 to make sure he has what I need in stock. Just thought I'd pass it along in case someone wanted/needed a local shop and doesn't want to deal with Comp Accessories.

    48÷2(9+3)=?

I thought this seemed like a pretty complete answer but even the author seems to agree the equation is poorly stated as is. The Distributive Property is just a PROPERTY (hence the name) and it ONLY states that 2(9+3) is the SAME as (2*9) + (2*3). It DOES NOT imply or govern WHEN or even IF this operation must occur, that fact is governed by the order of operations. The problem with your "solving" of the equation above is that you misapply the distributive property when you multiplied the "x" into the parenthetical expression: your (x*9 + x*3) part Instead, you must reduce the parentheses FIRST to get: 48/x(12) = 2 Now solve for x by dividing both sides by 12 (or 48 if you choose): 48/x = 2/12 invert both sides: x/48 = 12/2 multiply both sides by 48: x=48(12/2) x=288 The gist of this debate really centers on whether you interpret the "/" to mean just the 2 is in the demoninator like this: 48 ---- * (9+3) 2 or if the entire remainder of the expression is in the denominator like this: 48 ----------- 2(9+3) It's generally accepted that the first interpretation is the correct one. @David - how did I butcher the equation? And I understand the Dist. Property fine...it simply just doesn't come into play here. As I said the first decision is how you view the divide by sign, if you think everything to the right is in it's denominator, then you simply reduce the term in the parentheses to 12 and solve a simple equation for x: 48 -------- = 2 x(12) multiply both sides by x, x's on left cancel: 48 ---- = 2x ---> 4 = 2x ----> x = 2 12 on the other hand if you think the divide by sign only applies to the x, you likewise simplify the parentheses and solve for x. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DISTRIBUTE: 48 -- * (9+3) = 2 x 48 ----- * 12 = 2 ----> 576/x = 2 x multiple both sides by x, x's on left cancel: 576 = 2x -----> x = 288

    48÷2(9+3)=?

rephrase the question so the what is in the parentheses is already solved and then remove the parentheses --> What is 48 / 2 X 12 So the answer is 288 not 2. I still think correct notation should be used to remove the chance for this error. (48/2)12 makes more sense.

Me:o Sad but true we are not very good at math in the US. If this was being used in a laboratory equation I would want the equation written as [(X/y)(z+n)] just to avoid the logical process issues. I mean who laughs when NASA wastes a Billion dollar Satillite into the surface of Mars because someone forgot to convert ft to meters?
  19. Big ones I see sport bikers do are poor shifting, poor lane establishment (picking a line), cornering, uneven panic breaking and lack of doing a head check before switching lanes. ATGATT = All The Gear All The Time. If no one has mentioned it yet, get proper gear and wear it all the time. Full face helmet, gloves, protective boots, armored pants and jacket.
  20. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and know when enough is enough. That will help keep you alive till you develop the skills to cross the gap. Something that will help is to hook up with riders who are willing to give you the advice, time and types of rides to help you develop into a good rider. On your own you can practice these skills to increase control response time and balance. 1. Low speed tight turns, as slow as possible without putting feet down. 2. Stopping, accelerate for 20 ft and then using both breaks evenly stop as quickly as possible without skidding or losing control. 3. Practice shifting up and down the range. Use smooth acceleration, learn how the engine sounds and feels when you shift in the sweet spot. 4. Lean the bike. Getting used to leaning the bike to turn vs trying to turn the bars. It doesn't mean drag a knee or hit 555 and 60mph. Normal streets with no gravel in the corners and speeds between 35-50mph. Pick a line and hold it through the corner, try shifting you weight around to see how it feels.
  21. I guess that's why I still like revolvers. You can leave them loaded. As for having to load in the event of Zombie attack, keep the ammo in a stripper clip.

    Budget

Well last minute vote passed a budget. Don't worry their already planning to raise the debt ceiling to cover the difference. I'd say my kids will inherit the debt, but I don't have any I know of.
  23. Doesn't that affect the springs after a while?
  24. I've found this to not be the case with some ammo. I now zip lock and spray the ammo with a light oil inside an ammo case to reduce corrosion. The boxes themselves get put in places where fire is least likely to reach them. Don't need a bunch of fire fighters running the other way while my house burns down.
