  1. If mom's near you, I would physically take the psu out of the computer and take it to Microcenter. HP, Dell, et al are known for using non-standard mb connectors, so just match things up and you <should> be good to go.
  2. Assuming the monitor will power up: Take power cord from monitor, unplug from the monitor, plug it into the PC, then plug that straight into the wall. This will rule out (or in) the power cord and the port on the surge protector. (I know, I know, it can't possibly be the power cord... But it could. Easy fix if it is). ASSuming it still doesn't work - 99% it's the power supply.
  3. To answer the question this thread's title proposes: Yes. I'm sure there's a worse/more embarrassing way to go, but I can't think of one at the moment... Discuss.
  4. Saw that a few months ago on tv, and thought the same thing then as I do now: F*ck Yeah! At 84, he's the same age as my pop would have been this summer. As long as I don't hear "That's My Job", I'll be fine.
  5. Costs me 75 cents/transaction debit, 0 cents credit. Guess which one I choose? If your bank wants to do this to you, I suggest moving your account(s) to a credit union.
  6. I was 12, so I devoured Cycle World, etc. every month. Loved the show. Saw it a few years back on TV Land, gawd, it sucked...!
  7. I thought they had copped-out KZ1000's ? 4. Jon was 3. Jon and Ponch, not Ponch and Jon... Geesh. If you don't wanna go on this ride...
  8. Virtual network hardware: http://www.gns3.net/ Great for learning, testing configs before unleashing upon users, etc. Free (as in beer).
  9. They're on a shelf in my office now. Let me know next time you're in/around C-Bus.
  10. I know two that have the CISSP: One, very intelligent (and has every other cert ever offered by anyone). The other, umm, well let's just say that he's lucky breathing's automatic. I was judging the difficulty by the (automatic) mouth breather's attainment of said cert... "sh vlan" sh cdp neigh" I is a router monkey now?
  11. If anyone wants, I can provide some old Cisco gear to play with. Just checked the 'stack-o-stuff' and there's a 2900 and 3500 on it now. Usually there's a pile of gear, but only 2 today.
  12. I hear there's lots of monies to be made in cocaine distribution? I watched Cocaine Cowboys, so I are an expert. Dudes raked in the cash. That whole "getting shot or going to jail" thing kinda puts a damper on it, though...
  13. Beware the paper tiger. Having a cert is better than not having a cert, but I'll take actual job experience over a cert any day of the week. CISSP is not difficult, based upon people I know that have it. (Haven't actually looked into it myself; not interested, and next of much use in my part of IT).
  14. Props for trying something/anything instead of sucking on the government's tit. Anyone else catch the TR reference? No? Carry on, then.
  15. NO, NO, NO. Guns are useless. Only Jewish Kung-fu will work, or didn't you read?
