  1. If you think on star is scary, you should see some discussions about the proposed obdIII mandate.

Federal regulations are getting out of control. Next up is another crunch on CO2 emissions, and the only way to reduce those emissions is to reduce engine displacement. That's why there's been a hike in forced induction in recent years, the most obscene of which is a twin turbo v6 in a full size pickup. You can thank old Henry for that. Can't wait to see those trucks at 100k, abandoned because people can't afford Cvvt phasers and new turbos.

I'm glad im not the only one who has thought this..^^

  2. Now, back to the original question: Is it okay to take a new bike to the track?

    Prep the street triple,

put your ego in the closet,

go with a very open mind.

I don't care how fast you are on the street, the track is different. Stick yourself in the back of novice. Go slow, get the feel. Learn the lines. Learn the body position. in between sessions attend all of the riders meetings. Sit in your pit, close your eyes. Run laps in your head. 10 laps in your head, is as good as 50 laps on the track. Its a huge mental game. Just take it easy. Gradually step up your pace, but don't cross that comfort zone. Its not a race, Its a track day on a new motorcycle. I've found I never fully feel comfortable on a motorcycle until I've had it on the track.

  3. I did one of the KTM days at Mid O.  It could have just been the people who were there that day.  Some ego's were in full effect.  There were a few guys that I didn't want riding anywhere near me...I certainly would never have ridden with some of those guys on the street.  It wasn't a great first impression for me.

I think some aspects of street riding are more controlled.  For example, I can choose who I ride with on the street, and I only ride with people I can trust for "quick" rides.

Again, this is my opinion based on my experience.

In my track day experiences, I have ridden with 3 different organizations and what I have found is that your experience is directly linked to how dedicated your control riders are to the program. Some CR's just want free track time. Some really want to help.

I personally feel its a toss up on whats "Safer" from street to track. The track, I don't have to worry about gravel and debris for the most part. I don't have to worry about cars pulling out, or even how fast I am going. Its just me and the bike. I ride much harder on the track, than I do the street. This has its own risks, but some of the additional risks of the track are gone.

I'm much slower on the street but I always try to leave room for error because of gravel, or horse poop, or whatever it may be. I feel much more comfortable going fast on the track, than I do the street.

If you do crash on the track, you generally get spit off the line and out of the way, and you can slide to a stop. On the street you may find a Mac truck in your path, that will stop you.

As I said, In my mind, its a toss up.

  4. I own and we use Rigid 18v Lithium Ion drills and impact guns on the race car and sometimes go several days without a full charge being used almost all day. They also are just tossed in and yanked out of the tool box, not well taken care of, and not treated like I treat mine at home. I can 100% say these things take a severe beating and for the price we love them. We carry 2 drills and 2 impact drivers and 6 batteries with 2 chargers. Never had a single problem with them.

    ^^ I'm with this guy.

  5. If that were the case, then every OEM would offer at least 1 supermoto.  Like someone else said, they got played out.  I dont doubt that there are people out there who have supermotos but they arent popular.  I honestly cant remember the last time that I saw one on the street.

In the two weeks,( on the street, not counting the track) I've seen two WR250s, and three DRZ400sm's. Theres a lot more of them out there than you probably realize.
