I think they did it there last year-- Civic Park is just across the treeline from my apartment, so I seem to recall us watching it from the garage. Looked like fireworks to me. Couldn't tell you much about the other festivities-- I can't stand being in large crowds of people and children.

I agreed that it wasn't a perfect solution. It was one company's attempt to address an inequality in the current system. Incidentally, Google isn't the government. Google is trying to do something because the government doesn't allow this group of people the same rights that others have. That's kind of the opposite of a protected class. We should just let them get married and get the same wages and taxes as the rest of us. Problem solved. What any consenting adults do together is none of my business, and it shouldn't be the government's either. Issue the license, and let them find their own church or whatever if they want a traditional ceremony.

Good ideas on the electrical stuff. I'll have to test that once I get it back together. Of course, the downside is that the spark plug wires aren't changeable by themselves-- I'll have to do the coils if the wires aren't good. Earlier, when I had two that were rich and two that were lean, there was one each per coil, so that may not be it, but we'll find out. At any rate, I'm still waiting for my valve shim. Grrrr. At least we have another project bike to keep me busy while I wait.

Yep. If we gave them the same rights the rest of us have, this kind of thing probably wouldn't be happening. I have a lot of problems with some of Google's practices regarding user information and privacy, but I'll give them their due when they at least try to give their straight and gay employees the same net result. Not a perfect solution, but at least it's an attempt. Anyway, I really want some chicken now.

I have been meaning to do the wd-40 test-- I'm fairly certain I did that last fall, but it's entirely possible that it was on another bike. We've had too many weird projects going on over here. After the valve shim arrives and I get it back together, I'll try it.

That was fucking great.

My GS is the same way-- the ports are on the connection to the head, but you have to thread something into them. Let us know if you find anything.

No diaphragms-- old-school vm slide carbs. I just pulled them completely apart, re-cleaned everything, soaked the bodies in a bucket, and swapped back to the jets recommended in the Clymer manual (I thought I had the stock jets, but there were waaay too many different specs for this bike). It was better, but still lean in the mid-throttle, according to a plug chop reading. I'm thinking of raising the needles (the stock needles are adjustable clip type) to see if that changes anything. Unfortunately, I decided to check the valve clearances. One was too tight, so now I'm waiting for ASK to order in a 2.55 mm shim. After that arrives, I'll find out if the needle thing helped.

Ever see the bumper sticker that says, "Fifteen grand and fifteen miles does not make you a biker"? It was talking about that guy.

Skip to about 2:30-- this device was featured in a cracked.com list about crappy transportation inventions. It seems like damned near noone can use the thing properly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rZR8Xd2YTw&feature=player_embedded

Never ride behind a loaded pickup. You can't trust that they have the load secured well (if at all). Also, stay well clear of loaded flatbed semis. When I was driving over the road, I can't tell you how many things I saw fly off the back of them. All it takes is one tired guy tightening the chains to end up with a 40,000-pound steel coil landing in your lap.

This is basically what I already said: Way to not understand. The application is a constant process. The 'perfect' balance is not static, because time is not static and neither are countries. There will always be circumstances which change, technologies which present new problems, etc. The framers understood this; it's why we have a legislative and judicial branch-- otherwise we'd only need one guy to walk around carrying out the instructions in the handy-dandy manual. Instead, we have to constantly examine our interpretations, both to see whether they meet with our understanding of the constitution and to see whether what we're doing works in a practical sense. Seriously, calm the fuck down. Political debate is vital to the successful operation of a representative government, and a major reason why the first amendment is so important. However, the debate tends to be better when we can disagree like adults. You won't hear me deny that. I will say that the passage of the Civil Rights Act helped drive a lot of the bigots into the other party, so now the Republicans get to deal with them. Incidentally, I'm not a Democrat. Call me an independent liberal, if you will-- I vote for more democrats than republicans, but that's because I agree with the average democratic candidate on about 45% of the issues and the average republican on about 25% of them. Neither party impresses me much. Off the top of my head, try HB1 in Georgia. It's your run-of-the-mill abortion ban, with a nice page laden with religious nonsense: You can google yourself for more. For some reason I can just picture you stomping your little feet in red-faced righteous indignation every time a liberal says anything. Hate all you want, I'm still just as much a citizen as you are.
-
I'm not suggesting any such thing; I'm a liberal, after all, and states' rights aren't one of my pet issues. I think there are some roles for which the federal government is well-suited, and others that work better at the state or local level. I see our whole system as a balancing act-- part of the federal government's job is to keep the states from stepping all over the rights of the citizens, however the citizens have to keep the federal government from stepping all over the states, and somewhere along the way we have to keep the citizens from stepping all over each other too. It's a constant process, there is no finished product. However, there are those who do support what they refer to as 'states rights' even when they'd otherwise contradict the constitution. In modern times, they're generally the ones trying to pass a bunch of crazy religious laws in red states. Go back a bit and they were the ones fighting tooth and nail to protect the Jim Crow laws.

IT'S SKYNET!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!! OH SHI- Anyway, I like Matlab.

Interesting. I generally agree with this ruling, but I am amused at how all the "States Rights! Fuck the federal gubment, I want states' rights!!" people are being quiet right now.

If I'm reading the diagram right, your starter solenoid is right there on the left too (assembly 11 in this diagram, note the 30A fuse at 36 also). Sometimes they make a noise even when they're working ok. You might be able to check by looking for voltage at the terminal on the solenoid which is leading toward the starter. If there is voltage there, the problem may still be in your starter. Also, noticed that diagram's kinda hard to read on here, so here's the link: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1985-honda-motorcycle-vf1100s-v65-sabre/o/m2748?q=30510-MB0-703

Call me scooter trash-- I'd rock the fuck outta this thing:

Yep, I've heard them before-- pretty good stuff.

We have two working Denso starters pulled out of early-80's Yamaha Secas. Probably the wrong size stuff, but if you could get useable parts out of them we'd probably sell you one really cheap. If I remember later, I'll go get the part number and try to figure out if any of the internals might be compatible.

Seriously? Someone else on here likes both Opeth and Porcupine Tree? How about Katatonia? Micheal Akerfeldt from Opeth did vocals on one of their early albums. Their style's jumped around a bit over the years, from doomish metal to depressive rock with a few interesting detours in between. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPGTEJbDfYo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Clhn-vI4yE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BjRmHMUWvQ&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCYPUgb370I&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKaDSB5cS5s&feature=related Also, here's Anathema. They've toured with Porcupine Tree (if I remember right they also have done session stuff/ production on each other's albums). They started out in the UK as a doom-metal band, then went into ambient, prog-influenced stuff. Sort of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGdUWHddaP0&feature=related

+1 jbot. Also, I don't see it making sandwiches.

Yar, the v65's were fairly serious muscle-bikes in their day. I agree, tap the starter and see if it kicks over. If that fixes it, then you need a new starter.
