  1. If it was to be hit by a car would it go through the windshield and injure or kill an occupant? Cheesy old video about cars and mailboxes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9onU4fu7itI
  2. Turns out to be a fatal accident involving the friend of an OR Member. RIP.
  3. I think I just got the answer to the question I asked in this thread: http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=93431&highlight=hamilton Sorry to hear about your buddy. Anyone know what happened?
  4. There is a limit to how strong you can make your mailbox. I forge the actual law cite but it states that if a mailbox is designed to be no stronger than a 4x4 post then it is assumed to be safe for cars. Reading between the lines, if your mailbox is significantly stronger then you may be liable for injuries suffered when a car loses control and hits your mailbox. I have a 4x4 post set in concrete but the base is loose enough on the concrete that I can pull the post out and replace it if it gets broken. Snow plows, usually. I've had mine fixed more than once based upon me proving the township's plow broke it. If this current post has to be replaced then the next 4x4 I use will rise up above the height of a normal mailbox and the mailbox will be mounted to the side - mailbox baseball will be impossible.
  5. Was gonna help, but not if you're gonna be an ass about it. This is the best you get now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjlnW8dzB08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTjX54ZfVm0
  6. Textbook case of "Necessity", "Self Defense" and maybe even "Automatism". Most all mammals are genetically programmed to defend their own life and their child's life - this is the instinct that keeps a species going. To find someone attacking your child in such a hideous way... Well I can't imagine me doing anything else than raining down hell and fury in his head until the police drag me, still fighting, off the puddle of jello that used to be his face. He may be arrested and charged if the investigation shows a significant period of time or distance elapsed between finding the assault and the blows that killed him... If I breaks up the assauolt, then goes and tracks him down and kills him 5 minutes later, etc. Even then, I'd demands a jury trial and sleep well knowing that Jury Nullification is an VERY likely outcome. If he killed the man as a result of stopping the assault (And I'd give him quite a bit of leeway to account for adrenaline and automatism) then he should be given a medal.
  7. An appropriate avatar for this thread...
  8. Yeah, I remind myself of that fact every year on the anniversary of her death. Only it was smoking that did her in, not riding without a helmet.
  9. I thought he changed lawyers around that time. Accused of going "off the reservation".
  10. Don't forget that while arguing that half of all motorcycle accidents are caused by cars, you are also pointing out that half are caused by the bike. Pretty useless statistic really. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
  11. That's the same guy who played Animal Mother on Full Metal Jacket, isn't it?
  12. I've heard Guinness is better in Dublin - and not Dublin Ohio. Still, it's MUCH nicer on tap then out of a can, although the widget does a damn good job. My other favorite is Caffrey's. Can only get that if I bring it back from the UK. Anyone know anywhere in CO where I can get some Caffrey's?
  13. Nice. You're doomed. Next thing you know you'll spend hours working to pay for and then assemblre a $1500 gokart for him that will be a surprise fro next weekend, only to have him give you a crappy attitude this morning because HE forgot his lunchbox when you get to day camp and even though YOU then drove to a supermarket and buy everything he's missing and take it to camp for him he WON'T say thanks or even acknowledge you are there when you say "Good bye have a nice day". Little sh!t.
  14. Dunno. Glancing blow? Bullet his at a very low angle and skipped rather than penetrating?
  15. Unless your problem is you are about to be raped and then a hug could be considered mixed signals
  16. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/12/justice/florida-zimmerman-wife/index.html Prosecutors allege she knew they paypal donations were 135k when she told the judge they were penniless. Has no bearing on the murder case (maybe a credibility problem) but not doing them any favors. I wonder what reason they can argue explains why they claimed to be indigent despite sitting on over a hundred large... If i was her lawyeri would go with "i thought that money was for the legal defense only and and it would be illegal to use it for something else. I thought it was set aside and supposed to pay the court fees and lawers, and we should not consider it our own money to do with as we want. When you asked if WE had any money, and my honest belief was that no, we have a defense fund, but no money that is ours alone to spent on anything we want. We have 401ksa but didn't list those either because that money is not ours to spend willy nilly." Might work, might not. Or they may have an explanation for the prison visit conversation that the prosecutors allege was "code" for discussing the money.
  17. K, so it's done. The hand-truck-trailer worked great except for the fact the the floor of the box was cardboard instead of a wood pallet so it slumped to the side a little when the floor pressed in. There's no way I could have hoisted the box up to use the hand truck normally - the weight distribution of the box was off and the box was falling apart already. My advice to anyone else trying this would be to bolt a plywood "floor" to the hand truck. The body of the cart weighs about 325lbs so I'll have to use the jack to get the wheels on - definitely wouldn't like to have unpacked all the loose stuff by the side of the road and assembled the wheels there... Still, using this technique it took my 2 mins to get the box from the road to the workshop and set on the floor ready to work on it.
  18. He used the bat to knock the stumps in for the wicket? For shame!
  19. Don't we all buy and sell privately and from stores based upon changing needs? NICS records (if kept) are no more proof I own a gun than a driver's license is proof I own a car.
  20. Summit Martial Arts in Delaware Ohio. Been doing Karate for 18mo and Jujitsu for a little over 3mo. Sensei is Charles Riedmiller and it's a great atmosphere. Nice large facility with a great sense of student community.
  21. Sure. Just bear in mind that gun control fearmongering that invokes Obama's name usually get eye rolls from moderates like me - and i have plenty boomsticks. Your guns are your business, not the government's - ANY government's. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
  22. Karate and BJJ are a good comnination - they have little overlap, but where they DO overlap the moves are identical. Judo is a cousin of JJ and relies on takedowns, throws and joint locks (I think of Judo as JJ where you try to stay on your feet most of the time - and Aikido/Hapkido as Judo/JJ where you stay on your feet all the time) All developed, in part, as as response to armored opponents that are impervious to empty hand strikes. The more I do JJ the less muscle work I do - which I guess is a good thing. When I first started I tried to He-man my way around. Worked on smaller white belts, but skills quickly overcome weight so I was forced to start developing the skills. Nowadays I do as little as possible while rolling, especially with my arms. Rather than a elementary-school brawl it's become more like a game of chess. Well, checkers... I never thought that I'd find myself faking moves in JJ likw in Karate (Roundhouse low to dray a block then roundhouse high over the block) but you'd be amazed at how many people forget basics when you start going for a rear choke or similar. Amazing how many folks will defend a kamora by fipping their arm down and perfect place for an omoplata. (We work drills from side control switching rapidly between kamora, straight lock and omolpata) In the video above my 3rd tap was a rear naked choke and could have easily been defended if he'd shifted his hips onto the mat and turned his head. Instead he fixated on protecting his neck from my half-hearted attempts to get the choke so much that I had solid hooks in and when he remembered to try to move his body position there was a clear change in the level of his neck defense leaving me able to actually go for, and get, the choke.
  23. I don't need guns. I just write the bad guy a strongly-worded letter.
  24. As soon as I saw "Obama" in this I rolled my eyes. It's false. http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/medicare.asp The only doctor who mentioned guns to me was our pediatrician who handed me a leaflet of "Child Safety Tips" that included a bullet point of; "Guns should never be stored in the home".
