I know a guy who claims to have beaten a speeding ticket because the speed limit sign was in the the wrong font. Dumbass.
-
If anything is wrong on the ticket, and you can prove it, then they will amend the ticket, or dismiss and re-file. "My car is a Mercury, not a Ford!" doesn't make any difference. About the only way you're gonna get off with a ticket error is if you can get the officer to testify to the incorrect info and you can prove it false. If the time/date are wrong and you have a rock solid alibi for the stated time/date, maybe. Don't be surprised when the officer/prosecutor responds with; "Oh, you were out of state that day? huh. Well the tickets written immediately before and after that are 10 minutes apart and they are in THIS time-range. Looks like the 7 was actually a badly written '1'. We're going to amend the time/date for that." The only other way I can think is if they write the wrong charge code on the ticket. You get pulled for speeding and the charge code written down actually refers to "Passing a stopped school bus". It'd be fun watching the officer vapor lock trying to remember you passing a non-existent school bus - right up until he says; "No, I remember you, you were speeding - i just wrote the wrong charge code down. We will dismiss and refile." Try to take traffic school to get the points off.

You're right - I've been confused by the terms "Type A, B and C Family day care home" and the exemption for "People who live at the day care home". I thought that meant facilities where adults reside are being cared for, but apparently they are all classifications of child day care.

Another note. The homicide rate per 100k people in the US is 4.7, and Europe is 3.5. Given that the US has a gun death rate that is 100x higher than the Europe average, why is the homicide rate not 100x higher? Could it be that (*GASP*) pretty much the same number of people are murdered, just with other weapons??

Stats like that make for impressive headlines but don't account for the prevalence of the instrument or the size of the population. Did you know that in one year alone there were ~35,000 people killed in road accidents in the US? In Sweden there were 270. Think about that. But not too hard. - There are an estimated 275 million guns in the US. Last year I have stats for there were 8k deaths from guns. That means one death for every 33k guns. - There are an estimated 250 million cars in the US. Last year I have stats for there were 35k people killed by cars. That means one death for every 7k cars. That's right, after accounting for population, availability of the device etc, cars kill ~5x more people than guns. If the anti-gun folks REALLY want to save lives they should try to ban cars. Incidentally, did you also know that in Togo there were 15k deaths per 100k cars. That's equivalent to 15% of licensed drivers dying every year. Note to self, stay off the road in Togo. Safest country to drive in is Malta. ~4 deaths per 100k cars per year. US is ~15, UK is ~7.

In Ohio, caught in an enumerated no-carry zone (police statton, courthouse, govt building, school, daycare, nursing home, church and so on) is a felony. Getting caught in a private business that has posted that they don't allow guns is a criminal trespass (M4, equivalent to a second traffic ticket in one year). Contrary to what some people have said, if you are discovered with a gun in a private CPZ they don't have to ask to you leave, nor give you an opportunity to leaver. The signage IS them telling you to leave. You entering or remaining after seeing the sign is the legal equivalent of refusing to leave when asked in person. You are guilty of the trespass at that point and can be charged. Having said that, I cannot recall any cases where someone has been charged with violating a private CPZ. If you are in possession of a gun illegally and you use it in valid self-defense then you can (and likely will) be charged with the possession. Illegal possession of the gun does NOT invalidate an otherwise legitimate self-defense claim. If you are in an enumerated CPZ then expect to be charged. if you are in a private CPZ then expect to be "trespassed" (notified officially that you cannot come back - same thing that they do to shoplifters) Even if you are a hero and save the day, if your possession is a felony (enumerated CPZ, prior felon, stolen gun etc) then you should still plan on being charged. If they don't charge you then that sends out the message that felony-level illegal possession of a gun is OK as long as you are a hero, therefore emboldening others to carry illegally under the theory that "nobody will ever know about it unless the time comes to be a hero"... Don't forget these are the actions one one person. There are ~150 million legal gun owners out there that didn't do anything wrong.

Zimmerman was quoted as saying that he felt the shooting was "part of God's plan".

And here we are again - mired in the concept of "faith". For the sake of argument, let's say God made me. And he made me intelligent (shut up). And he gave me a logical scientific mind. The logical scientific mind cannot accept the concept of God. So God has doomed me to failure (in his eyes)? Maybe my lack of faith is part of some big plan. Maybe one of these days I need to act in a way that will further this plan, but my response will be one that a religious person would not be in a position to give. Say, for example, I will be driving down a road one day while everyone is at church, and I will come across an accident scene and help save a life that would have been lost if everyone else was at church. If that is true then I am nothing but a cog in a machine with no free will. But the bible says god gave me free will, right? You know, God could sort this crap out pretty sharpish with a clear and unmistakable sign - one that will even convince the skeptics. Then we will all fall into line. Until then I will use the scientific logical brain that god supposedly gave me to continue to not believe in him.

You mean "reconciled"?

I took that as him being sorry for the parent's loss, but not regretting the actions that caused the loss. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2

I wonder... Could the populace ever become so prejudiced by media coverage that an impartial jury simply cannot be seated?

Knocking on my door at 2am will get you ignored unless I know you. I have a camera on the porch so I can see who's at the door without opening it.

re: Prosecuting him fro abuse... Even if we are to accept the allegation as true, I don't see him being prosecuted. The earlier allegations were in Virginia that has no Statute of Limitations for that type of crime - however at his young age he couldn't be prosecuted anyway. The later allegations (the most egregious of which would be when he was over 16 and she was under 16) took place in Florida, which has a statute of limitations of 3 or 4 years from when the victim turns 18. She is 26, ergo he cannot be prosecuted for those. The only prosecution I see from this would be if they can prove any crimes occurred in Virginia when he was old enough to be prosecuted for it - even then, he would most likely be tried and sentenced as a juvenile (which he was at the time) - which means that can't hold him past his 21st birthday. Any conviction would hold little or no legal repercussions as his "juvenile" record would be sealed. Best case scenario for prosecutors in Virginia would be if offenses happened there after Z turned 14 and they could make a motion for discretionary transfer to adult court. Even then it's he-said-she said on the exact instances of abuse in Virginia over the age of 14.

Same girl who is accusing him of molesting her, if I read it correctly. Z's lawyer argued that she is known for making stuff up - but acknowledged that contact took place.

He should be investigated and potentially prosecuted for that as a separate matter. It's no more relevant to shooting that if Martin had a similar report about him.

It would be funny if the first pics they got from this rover were of a Martian traffic cop giving "Curitosity" a ticket; "I clocked you at 1000mph on re-entry there, Bub. Where's the fire?"
-
Sweet video. Incidentally... I love that phrase; "No copyright infringement intended". i see that all over Youtube when someone posts copyrigthed videos. It's a worthless combination of words. I might as well tell the cop who pulled me over for DUI "No intoxicated driving intended" Any of the copyright holders can shut that video down in a heartbeat.

The "Curiosity" Rover (Big brother to Spirit and Opportunity) is the size of an SUV and cannot land in a pillow of airbags like the last two. It has to be lowered to the groudn by a crane. On Mars. Yup. I know, right? http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogallery/index.html?media_id=146903741

Apparently the police told them both to grow up and took no action...

Look at the handlebars in the original story; they are bent forward. The front wheel is kicked left and flattened. Looks like the wheel/forks hit the side of the CRV at the leading edge of the driver's door and his upper body continued forward - hips hitting/bending the bars and shoulders/head folding down and hitting the windshield.
