  1. Was missing a couple parts that I had to track down (NOS stuff is a swine to track down), but finally making progress. History: Had some overheating issued on the way back from trail ride so I started looking at the engine. Decided to rebuild it. Took the block to be magnafluxed - cracked. Bought a new engine, but figured while it was apart I'd look more closely at the frame. Found this: So I had to fix that - 6 of 10 this bad. Then got to work with painting: And starting to reassemble: The chassis will be like new when I'm done. The only part of the braking system that I kept for the truck was the pedal - everything else is new. New fuel system (tank, pump, lines) and all u-jouints/seals/bearing for the driveshafts are new. Only keeping solid metal parts that were not rusted out. Should be fun to take my 8yo offroading. He's not been yet.
  2. Are you gearing down for those big tires? I went with 33" tires on my Bronco and found it has a huge impact on torque, although I could cruise at 85 all day on the freeway. I don't do 85 offroad so I geared it down to 4.56. Ford 8.8 at the back, Dana RR44 at the front. Evened everything back out again just fine. You using this to take your bike to the track?
  3. Don't expect paypal to return your money for "condition" as it is a objective thing. They only deal in absolutes. I think he took 3 weeks on purpose to exceed the claim window. I'd send them back and be ready to call him out on the forum if he doesn't come through. Next time, ask for pictures.
  4. So what about him lying on the police report?
  5. The vehicle/Penor size ratio is strong with this one.

    Da*n It!!

You'll need more than a frozen lock and slow response from mgt to break a lease. Still, good luck.
  7. When the power goes out in winter and you were the only guy smart enough to have a generator on site... Well, where are the generator thieves gonna hit up? The one house with its lights on. Same concept with bigger stakes when you're the only guy with food.
  8. If you pull the ABS fuse the ABS stops working. It won't start working again until you go through an engine-start with the fuse back in place. The ABS light coming on when you spin the tires is likely a warning about the difference in front/rear wheel speed sendors - warning you you may have a bad speed sensor.
  9. Dunno why people are getting worked up. The question was "What is your SHTF gun?" not "What is your complete SHTF plan?" or "What is your SHTF food plan?" Yeah, sure, we can't eat bullets. Nobody asked about food though. I have a couple of week's supply of food on hand, and about a week of water. I also live near a lake and have a purifier.
  10. I got footage of the traffic stop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuUVjHZr1LY
  11. Pull the fuse. Or find the wire coming from the ABS fuse and put a switch inline with that so you can turn it off. Will act like regular brakes (with a warning light on he dash). You will need to turn the engine off and on after turning the switch back on to get he ABS working again.
  12. Dang, 10pts? What did you do? Mid-ohio added those little silver switches themselves. Have the same effect as pulling the fuse. They have you do that before while drive the wet brake/turn exercise. Turns out I'm wrong on the 'mandatory' thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lock_brakes#Regulation
  13. What about travel? Imagine Katrina, and you need to de-ass the area immediately. Roads will be full of cars. I'll thinking either a capable offroad truck, or an offroad bike. Throw a set of knobbies on the strom and you can get through the traffic more easily, or set off cross-country.
  14. Fair enough. A "cache" of weapons and "thousands" of rounds doesn't describe me though. The folks suggesting thousands of rounds of ammo are the folks talking about end-of-civilization scenarios where they will be living off the land indefinitely.
  15. I shot mine off years ago with the jockstrap o' death.
  16. Most likely scenarios: 1) Home invasion robbery. The perimiter is reinforced enough to slow down anyone who isn't driving tank though the wall. I can get geared up in 30 seconds. 2) Civil unrest / loss of law enforcement response due to natural disaster (Katrina) or political strife (LA riots) The threat of zombies, massive militarized gun-grabs and invasions of the homeland don't keep me awake at night.
  17. Isn't ABS mandated in cars and trucks these days? I freely admit that I like ABS on the bike and in my car - frees me up to worry about other things in a panic situation. I've tracked my car and done advance/evasive driving courses in it. ABS is a tool just like anything else. Let it do its thing when it's helping and take over when it's not.
  18. I don't offroad my bike. I commute and take interstate trips on it. You can't get a v-strom without ABS. I thought that's where YOU were going tlaking about crutches and bikes. Guess I was wrong about that. Sorry. I think this ends here - we're not connecting right.
  19. Hey, I never said people couldn't have their penormobiles. It's a free country. As long as they are happy with their prosthetic dicks that's ok in my book. Lost me here. If your are referring to who I think you are referring to, and to the specially modified bike then you just took this friendly banter to an ugly place that is all you, buddy. I ain't following you there. (Methinks Brian doth protest too much. A little too close to home. Seems I hit a nerve there. A very small nerve, apparently)
  20. Meh. I commute with it. Storage is for helmets, laptop and my son's safety gear. Plus the map doesn't show how many times I've been to those states.
  21. I have both 5.56 and .22LR Or I can trade you a deer for 50 squirrels.
  22. I am from the fun police. Please stop smiling and go about your day doing nothing more than moaning about how cold it is and that you can't ride.
