So you think Ford stands for Found on Road Dead

Yeah, the old "Real Criminals" line... How about some "Real Numbers".... In Ohio more people die in motor vehicle accidents (~1100/year) than in murders (~550/year). If the police wanted to reduce the number of deaths of Ohioans then they would take all the cops off homicide and reassign them to traffic - they would save more lives. "Taking officers away from traffic and putting them on 'real crimes' will mean more people die. Is it ok for people to die so you can avoid your speeding ticket?"

The actual eye protection law in Ohio, for those that care... http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/4501-17

A further nail in the coffin for my prior assumption that sitting as a red light is not "operating" the bike... http://www.ohioduiattorney.com/Dui.htm Still, I have to believe that an officer would not stop someone JUST for flipping their facemask up while sitting at a red light... Although it could be the basis for a pretense stop if the officer suspects something else is not right and needs an excuse to pull you over. EDIT: Oh well, turns out the high-mounted GIVI windshield on my bike is tall enough to it would satisfy the eye protection law on it's own. I can do whatever the hell I want with my visor.

But what if you don't break the law? 4501-17-01 © says; "No person shall operate or be a passenger on a motorcycle without using a protective eye device." Therefore, if I am sitting at a red light then am I "operating" the motorcycle? I found a precedent from Conneticut that states that operating a motor vehicle is a much broader term than 'driving' and no intent to drive is required - you just need to do any of the step in the sequence that wind up with you driving - so starting the engine, even just putting the key in the ignition, etc. http://www.jud.ct.gov/ji/criminal/glossary/mv_op.htm Also, Protective Eye Device" is defined as one or more of Goggles, faceshield, windscreen and/or spectacles. Any protective device must be shatterproof. For Face Shield it says; "a protective device attached to a helmet that covers the wearer’s face at least to a point approximating the tip of the nose, designed to provide adequate and reliable protection of the eyes from debris, wind, moisture, light, dust, cold, or any combination of these or other elements." Therefore having the visor cracked open is ok as long as it comes down to at least to the tip of your nose. I'll have to put my helmet on tonight and figure out how many clicks I cna have it open and still have it level witht he tip of my nose. That might be zero clicks, I dunno. Still, it's like the hands-free device laws... They even ban you from doing the phone thing while sitting at a red light. My phone has GPS on it and it sits in a cradle on my dash. Who is put at risk by me entering my GPS destination while sitting at a red light?

I have a box of 3000 coiled with copper wire so you can get your groove on at about 90psi. The gun rents from Sunbelt at $26/day. EDIT: Now I'm thinking about an actual roofie "gun". Just walk in the bar and shoot random girls with them like tranquiliser darts. A very strange visual. Maybe some kind of blow-gun would work? Aim for the girls with big mouths. Don't accidentally inhale the roofie lest you wake up in a pink frat house complaining that roofies make your bum hurt.

Heal up, man. That's some painful-sounding surgery. No more taking corners at 80, mmmmkay?

The main reason I got my flip-face helmet was so I could flip it up at red lights and get air. Is that illegal? I flip it down again before I set off again...

I had read that the "please sign this waiver" happened pretty early - ie the city/pd knew that has messed up bad rigth from the beginning. I also heard the victim has a lawyer - I'm sure OFCC are going to make sure the victim is well represented because the outcome of this case will affect all who CCW. If the police/gubment *insist* on notification of some form then the manner of notification should be something much more subtle and non-threatening... for example, if you are asked for your Driver's license and you are carrying then give your CHL at the same time. No nervous shouts of "I have a gun" scaring the officer... or getting told to shut up while trying to notify then getting charged with not notifying.

Ah, I didn't know the plate was for 50 years.

On cold mornings I have to ride with the visor open a click or two or it fogs up.

Some of thosde 'cutr you hand off countries' the man would pay blood money to the family and evade any punishment. Then they would probably stone the woman to death for being in public without a chaperone.

Ford an Jeep have let me down. I had a '95 Taurus that fell apart from stupid stuff like the power window track broke a weld inside the door, the fan switch melted internally, the speedo failed 3x and lots of other stupid stuff that I could fix myself but would have been expensive to pay a shop to do. And the car was only 3 years old. Then we had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokke that was 5 years old and had a window track that broke and the evaporator core started to leak. The window was quoted at $700 and the evaporator was quoted at $1700 (to remove the dash to get at it) We also had a grand prix that puked a transmission at 125k but I fixed it myself and that car is still going strong. Also my '89 Park Avenue has a solid engine/trans even at 199k, although it's just had a new a/c compressor and little things like EGR and power steering hoses etc. Had a '96 Maxima for 7 years that needed new calipers at the rear, and a bearing in the trans. Total cost of $40, rest was routine stuff. My current car (once my ankle heals again) is an '05 Subaru. I bought it after my wife's '01 outback wound up being such a good car. Mine has needed a clutch and nothing else (had it for 4 years, 40k miles) My wife's outback has 160k on it (60k of those are hers) and has only ever needed a CV boot and a tensioner pulley. For me, it's Subaru all the way with Nissan as a close second. These cars don't break, and I've tracked mine. If I was goign to buy Domestic I've had best luck with GM cars. But my Ford Bronco is solid too (but I'm doign a frame-up resto on that, so it's going to be all new running gear when it's done so can't compare) -
I don't dispute this effect at all, happens to me too... It's just the guy stabbed a womand in the head several times and stomped on a puppy but people will only ever comment about the puppy. Why is that?

I really hope this is a "Needs to change password" situation... Meh, just do what I do. Talk. Doesn't matter what I say, the English accent always does the trick. I could be telling a girl about my stamp collection and I'd still get mauled.

Doesn't need to be a genius to see all the lawyers that will be beating his door down to represent him.

I don't think it's worth the potential BMV hassle of making it official that you have a medical condition that affects you ability to drive.

I'm missing something here... Or he referring to a significant other? Or the character from The Fairly Oddparents?

Karma dictates that said engine drops all its oil on the road 30 seconds in front of your bike... Right after a blind corner. On a road next to a cliff. With no crash barriers. And 400' drop. Onto a river full of alligators.

Get a friend to suck on the disptick. DUH!

Tell him to be safe, as best he can. My brother was in Iraq during the first assault into Basra. That was scary getting letters and calls from satellite phones that were sporadic at best. One letter started with; "There's nothing like a mortar assault against your position to wake you up in the morning" and went on to tell me about an embedded reporter taking shrapnel from one of said mortars.
