  1. Did you see the pic? "Mutton dressed up as lamb."
  2. Byu protecting the side of the bike it increases the resale value when his estate is settled.
  3. I have a manifild guage set, so the first thing I'm going to do is check pressure, then draw a vacuum and make sure it's not leaking. If it is, then I'll charge it up with some UV dye to look for the leak.
  4. So you're not talking about me then. I just said I point out squids to my 7yo son to drive home the point about why he has to wear his safety gear when he's 2-up with me. If someone dies in a bike wreck and is not wearing a helmet then it's still a terrible loss. I do admit that I wonder if they'd have survived had they been wearing one, though.
  5. I'm doing a frame-up restor on my old '87 Bronco. It had rusted through it's second tank, so the replacement I got was plastic. I'd need several of those permatex things to seal up the tank... *and* I still would have had to drop the tank to get at the worst areas as they were on the top half of the tank. For $109 I'm not going to cry myself to sleep about it. Plus I know the repair is solid and I'll not feel like a schmuck selling it on with a half-assed gas tank repair.
  6. This is the second time I bought a used vehicle with a leaking tank.
  7. I don't have the heart to sell a known bad vehicle. If I JBwelded it I would hate myself for selling it in that condition. Plus, it is "weeping", not leaking. I'd have to jb weld a 1' square area. And I had to remove the tank anyway to get at the area that is weep.
  8. Obvious screwover from the guy to traded it to Route 36 Motor cars. It was running on fumes when I bought it, so I'm sure it was traded on fumes so Route 36 would have had no idea.
  9. So I can't drive my stickshift for a while due to my broken ankle. Rather than rent (recovery could be up to 3 months) I bought a cheap used car intending to sell it once I'm done. I bought an '89 Park Avenue for $1400 (plus tax, title and other crap). Electric everything. New tires and cat/y-pipe. All works except for the AC, driver's electric seat, and the front passenger window motor is weak. Paint it excellent, just a couple of bits of peeling clearcoat the size of a dollar bill. Interior or clean and smoke-free. All the other electrical goodies work great. In other words, easy to resell once I've used it (and fixed the broken bits) So I do the test drive, all looks well. Drives nice. Engine and trans are smooth, brakes feel great. Works for me. As-is, of course. I'm driving it home and figure I'd better tank it up. Arrive home with a full tank of gas and my kid complaining of a funny smell. The gas tank is leaking from above the seam. It's weeping through pinholes through the rust. So now I'm stuck with a car I can't drive AND I now have to keep the rental until I can get this car fixed. Fuck this. I'm not going quietly. Lucky for me I work on cars in my spare time so I had the tank out of the car in a couple of hours. Tore up a gas line doing it but I had the parts and tools on hand to fab up a new gas line. Autozone are rushing me a new gas tank, $109, for tomorrow. With any luck I'll be back on the road tomorrow night and still be able to turn the rental in on time. Really, you can't check for everything How do you even check for a leaking gas tank?? Once that's fixed I just need to charge the A/C and it should run just great. On the bright side I can see it has new all new brakes and lines.
  10. Do you make your kid wear a seatbelt?
  11. No helmet to act as a counterweight either.
  12. Better a whiner than a squid. I don't care about what other people do for safety gear - I care about me, and I care about my son. The rest of you zoom-splat junkies can do what you want.
  13. .... AND the iron horse you rode in on.
  14. I whine about squids when my son is in the car. I don't want him growing up thinking that's cool. He rides 2-up with me so I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a rider himself. I wanna get that ATGATT message in his head now.
  15. If even YOU thought the damage was purely cosmetic at there scene then there is a risk that they could dispute mechanical damage. People pad claims all the time, and the insurance companies watch for it. Police report is important here to demonstrate the mechanical damage exists at (or at least very close to) accident date. Make sure it winds up in the police report. (or put it in your handwritten narrative) I will say that I'd be greatful that they were honest enough to stick around. Many people would book it if they hit an unattended vehicle.
  16. I have filed insurance claims without police reports. No problems with that. In an accident with another person (not family) I'd always get a police report to force them into stating their case at the scene rather than giving them time to come up with a fake story. I was in an accident with another car that was my fault. I told the lady that I was not going to call the police myself becuase I'd get a ticket, but she was free to call the police if she wanted. Both cars had only cosmetic damage and liability was indisputable, so we just exchanged info. BUT after the fact I realized that without documentation of the level of damage and lack of injuries then the other driver could easily pad her claim. That was a nervous couple of weeks. In that case it worked out, we both were honest in the claim and her damages were paid quickly. I will always do a police report in the future, even if it was my fault, because that $150 ticket could be nothing compared to a bogus injury claim that I'd have no way to dispute.
  17. If you were a Gay British guy on a Harley then you'd be a Fag being a Fag smoking a Fag.
  18. So I bought a cheap car. '89 Park Avenue for $1400, everything works except the A/C which is R12 so would cost $250 to charge so I'm leaving it alone (may do the cheap R34a conversion, we'll see). Other than that everything works great, just an old beater car. But now I'm having buyer's remorse. I managed to convince myself last night that the doc is going to tell me on wednesday that I don't need a cast or a brace and can drive stickshift again immediately. But I have also convinced myself that if I *don't* buy a spare car then the doc will tell me I'm gonna be in a cast for 3 months and renting for that long would cost much more. After reading online about ankle recovery time and finding out from my doc that I have a grade 3 sprain with complete tearing and an avulsion fracture I expect I'll be in a cast for 4-6 weeks, then in an air cast for 4-6 weeks after that. This sucks.
  19. HWP = Height / Weight Proportionate ? Should have put NTAP. (No Tiny Asian Peckers) Why are you looking in m4m?

Give him the ipod back. If that doesn't make him act like a decent human being then I'd say there's you're proof that he's a fag-ball douche-monkey and you can write him off.
  21. Oh, I've seen some crap out there. I'm still shocked at how many people think say "A/C needs charged". If I was selling a car and the A/C needed to be charged then I'd charge it. I'm avoiding anything that has been wrenched on by a "tuner". Steering clear of anything that has a minor issue that "just needs" something. Running away from anything that is "Needs a straight pipe to replace the catalytic converter", or "Has been stored for x years". Turning my nose up at "needs an XXXX soon" if XXXX is something that doesn't wear slowly - ie Alignment. It either needs an alignment or it doesn't. Ignoring anything that has had a major component replaceed too recently to be proven reliable again. "New engine 50 miles ago = RUN AWAY". I'm leaning towards cars that are in current use rather than something that's sat out rotting in a field. But you can get so much more car for 4k. I came across a mistubishi 3000GT for 2k that looked very clean I'll take that over a 4k cougar.
  22. KBB for *excellent* condition with 13k miles is $2,300.
  23. That's the wat to go. You pay all that money to your insurance, make them work for it. There's little doubt that they'll recover from the other driver.
  24. Suprised it doesn't say "AC needs charged" like half of the cars on CL. That's like saying "Tire needs air". If if was that easy, why don't YOU do it? Becuase they know it's gonna all leak out again.
