  1. **SOLD** I have a 2004 Volusia 800 with ~7k miles that I would like to sell. I was looking to sell to a dealer rather than risk all the craigslist stupidity (But I'll sell to a OR member in good standing - deff. not doing the craigslist thing) The bike is the dark green with factory flames and has the boulevard windshield, lowers, passenger backrest and armrests, throw-over saddle bags, cargo rack, soft top case and oxoford heated grips. I also have a set of aftermarket floorboard (driver and passenger) in a box that I never put on. Never in an accident, clear title etc. Most sunday cruising, one big long trip around Lake Erie last year. New battery last month. Has a battery tender connection, and I'll throw in the battery tender. Just bought a brand new V-Strom and I know I'm just never going to ride the Volusia again. It was my first bike, had it since brand new, took delivery off the showroom floor. Fond memories of this bike. I'll be damned if I just let her rot. Will add pics to this thread when I get home tonight. Let me know of specific picture requests like odometer, closeups of the paint, a picture of me wearing a pink tutu holding a green bucket full of dancing fish sitting on the bike (so that you know I'm actually taking pictures of my bike, not just stealing someone else's pics from online) Asking price reduced to $2,500. Located in Delaware, Ohio.

    48÷2(9+3)=?

Excel says 288 so I'm sticking with that.

    New bike

Just finished adding all the bits and bobs I got for my new bike. 2011 V-Strom DL650 ABS. Added: - Center Stand - Hard bags, top and sides - GPS (nav) - GPS (theft tracking system) - Madstad windshield bracket - Heated grips - Throttle lock - Tank bag - Dashcam - Bead Seat - Raised pasenger pegs for my son - Hand guards - 12v outlet for accessories - Headlight modulator I think that's about it...
  4. Seems to me that it should be illegal to pass a moving bike in the same lane. I won't pass a moving bike in the same lane - if he's like me then he'll be using the whole lane as dictated by conditions so he could suddenly changes sides on the lane without warning. I give bikes as much room as cars.
  5. I wave. If they don't wave back then meh, who cares?
  6. Could you quote me the ORC for that. I thought that was true but I can't find the actual code. Not illegal, as we have etablished above, if the lane is wide enough for the passing car to complete the pass without leaving the lane. A motorbike could easily pass a left-turning car ahead of him without leaving the roadway in many intersections.
  7. Break it down: You cannot leave the roadway to pass on the right. If the roadway is wide enough for you to pass on the right of a left-turner ahead of you (that means *without* going on the curb, crossing the white line on the right or leaving the paved surface and putting your right wheels in the gravel) then you may pass on the right. A left-turner will always be blamed first when they are in an accident with an oncoming car. Factors that would shift the blame onto the oncoming car (such as them running a red light, leaving the roadway to pass on the right etc) are extremely difficult to prove. Even running a red light is a matter of judgement for the officer - I've known officers who will ticket the left turner even with a witness agrees the oncoming car ran a red light because the oncoming car still "close enough to constitute an immediate hazard" OP: In an accident you would be blamed unless you can prove they left the roadway. Good luck with that. (This is why I have a dashcam on my car and on my bike)
  8. NT4IN? Made me think of NT4 SP6a. Stand up and be counted, Geeks!
  9. I ride like a drive... Alone on country roads or the freeway I'll let her breathe a bit, but I always slow down when there's any chance of contention (side streets, other vehicles etc). I corner very coservatively, always leave plenty of reserve. Can't count the number of times I've found a puddle of gravel or dead critter in the road that required me to change my line. Balls-out, you can't do much about that. In my car I corner very conservatively and power out of the corner so my avg speed it still where it needs to be but I'm never anywhere near the limit at the apex. Too many things can go wrong. When traction is low I stick to the speed limits religiously. Same with limit of 35 or under, or in residential areas and of course school zones. I drive through Dublin twice a day and about 50% of the time there is a cop there. Usually handing out a ticket. I stick to lane markings like my life depends on it. I won't drive or ride across a cross-hatch even if it means missing a cycle of the light. I hate seeing people drive half in the shoulder on long curved freeway ramps. I am greatly amused by seeing people get mightly pissed off when I do things like "Stop at a stop sign", "Stop before turning right on red" or "Stick to 20 mph in a school zone with flashing lights and a cop playing laser tag." On the bike I prefer to be lone with no other traffic. I will power past clumps of traffic (or slow and let them get ahead) to maintain that buffer of space. I leave 4 seconds of following distance. The look of disgust this earns from drivers behind me is amazing, you'd think I was skinning babies alive in my car. It's funny to see some hothead swerve out and pass me on the shoulder to get into my 4 second following distance... Yet 30 minutes later when I exit the freeway he's still only 4 seconds ahead of me. On the bike I do my best to stay out of everyone's way.
  10. Arrived at work one day. Got into the elevator with all my bike gear still on. Joe Rocket boots, leather overpants, Tourmaster dayglo armored jacked, armored gloves, balaclava and flip-up helmet. Guys in the elevator says; "You on a bike?" What I wanted to say 1: "No, I teach kindergarten and the kids are pretty rough." What I wanted to say 2: "No, I'm 'Squiddy the Clown" and I'm going to a birthday party". What I wanted to say 3: "Here's your sign..." What I actually said: "Yup."

    It's here!

I'll be getting the service work done at Ohio Motorcycle in Hilliard. They're close to where I work plus I've used them before for service and had a great experience. I just wish their sales dept had given me the same deal Ask did. Oh well.

I never got the C14. That's what I was trying to decide between. Eventually decided that the Wee better fit my commuting needs than the C14.
  13. Same here. When that first tooth came out it felt like his pliers had slipped off the tooth until I heard the tooth plink into the kidney bowl...

ASK Powersports on the east side. Got such a good deal that I was able to get a top case, center stand, heated grips and some other stuff and still didn't reach the asking price from other local dealers. ASK was the only place that didn't stick to the MSRP like glue (and they aslo didn't add freight charges like other places). I had OTD quotes higher than 9k for this bike. Instead, I was OTD for less than the MSRP.
  15. The best bit was picking up the prescription on the way home. I tried to not talk ("Godfather" cheeks packed with cotton wool) but I couldn't help myself when the pharmacist said; "Have a nice day!" I replied "Shank you!"
  16. Oh yeah. And just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's better. A year after my boy started at Goddard I changed jobs. We checked out a couple of the big names near my new job and one place give me the heeby-jeebies in a major way. They had 12 kids and 3 adults so tighly packed in one room that there was not room for my wife and I to both enter the room at the same time for the tour. That was a Kinder Care location. To this day we call that place Kinder Scare. That tour made me SERIOULY consider shit-canning the whole concept of daycare. For weeks after that I had dreams of my boy being in that crowded room looking up at my crying. We just moved him to a different Goddard school. The two locations I have experience with (Worthington Hills and Lewis Center) were both excellent. It's all about people. I don't care if you pay a thousand bucks or a hundred bucks a month - you are entrusting your child to PEOPLE. You have to be able to trust those people. You have to continue to be involved. You can't just choose a sitter and then quit caring.
  17. I was warned that nerve damage was likely. But it's not like you can just leave them in. I was lucky though, no lasting effect other than a healthy fear of dentist syringe. 8 F*CKING SHOTS IN MY GUMS!!! 8!!! I swear, took so long to do the shots that by the time the last one was in I was convinced the first one would have worn off already.
  18. Did you man-up and go with the local anesthetic? Or did you cry like a little baby until they gave you the general anesthetic? Two of mine were impacted and I still did the local. (If I had had insurance back then it might have been different.... )
  19. Different daycare are... different. Goddard has a stated lesson plan, it's not simply "baby storage". Goddard did such a good job teaching my boy that in our first 1st grade teacher conference we were given 2nd grade reading/math text books for him to work on instead. Some places take your money and sorta promise your kid won't be dead when you arrive after work. Those places are what I call "Baby Storage". Some places have a structure and a lesson plan and are much better. My boy always thrived at his daycare.
  20. Sounds like too much, yup. Depends on how he set up the camera, though. If it ran 24x7 then it would be 9 days. And we don't know how many of those hours might have been between him reviewing the evidence for the first time and the recording being stopped due to her arrest (ie, how long did it take him to ge the videos to his lawyer, and then to family services, then to the police) We also don't know hay many hours of that video showed nothing out of the ordinary. It may have been over a hundred hours of nothign unusual and then suddenly all heck broke losse. We just don't know.
  21. What's wrong with the post? Yamaha make better stuff than the Japanese companies. Much better than those French Harley Davidsons, the Russian Triumph and the British Husqvarnas.
  22. It's tough though. Places like Goddard, Kinder Care etc charge about $1k/month for 6 years!! ( ask me how I know ) By the time one child hits elementary school you've already spent $70k. There *ARE* good in-home daycares, but you simply don't know if the place is bad until something bad happens. My $1k/mo at Goddard got me the peace of mind that there are measures in place to ensure my boy is going to be safe from a bad adult. (On the plus side, once he hit elementary school I suddenly got an extra $1k/mo that I had become accustomed to not having. = new VStrom! )
