  1. Definitely lame. And i wouldnt count an ipad as a mobile device either.
  2. Jnor, Pick up the MadStad windshield bracket and spend a couple hours adjusting the snot out of it, a half inch at a time. :-) Once you get it just right, it will be SO much better. You could also pick up the Givi windshield if you find your current windshield and a Madstad bracket aren't doing it for you. I have both and at 5'8" find them to be a great combo on my WeeStrom.
  3. Wonder if one of them grabbed the license plate from the fallen bike? :-D Or the parts that had the vin number?
  4. Haha, we only suck if you're lucky. :-)
  5. Not sure of places in C'bus but a coworker of mine here in Dayton bought a Shadow earlier this month and promptly lost the keys after a weekend trip. He got the same runaround. Long experience short.... Find a generic place that will use the vin to make a key. A generic blank (versus one from the dealership) should work as long as the channels on the key match the lock, and any decent key shop should be able to use the VIN to do it. It ended up costing my coworker a few bucks for the generic blank and a few bucks for the keycutting service: total under $10 for two new keys. Also, avoid the stealership; they'll get it wrong.
  6. Tourmaster Cold-Tex ($20-$35) with a pair of thin cotton gloves as liners (the kind you buy for $5 for a 3 pack.) Works really well for me from about 35f thru 60f since I can take the cotton gloves out if it gets up to 50+. Waterproof, mostly wind resistant, etc. Or you could get a pair of Hugger gloves... Something leather with thinsulate in them and perhaps use the cotton liner glove with them as well. That'd be windproof and waterproof. -b
  7. +1 to this, from me. That, and assume you are invisible to other traffic regardless whether you're in a car or on a bike.
  8. I have the Scala Rider Teamset Pro. It's a rider-to-passenger system. There is the Scala Rider Multiset setup that's bike to bike, plus does a bit more than the Teamset Pro. Multiset should have the same quality as the Teamset does. I use the Teamset pro for talking with my wife or my son (depending on who is riding with me at the time). Sound is good; there's a little wind noise transmitted but it's subjective and depends on the helmet, riding situation and speed, location of mic, etc... I'm very happy with the sound quality, volume, and ability to have two way conversations (not like walkie talkies). The boom mic isn't too obtrusive in my full face, but I definitely notice it. Space is lessened for me due to a foam air flow piece at the front of the chin area, but this is a helmet issue, not a boom mic issue. In my wife's helmet without the foam in the chin area, she has plenty of room for the boom mic. -b

    Geocahceing

I've gone multiple times locally and several on a trip to a state park. It was fun, except for the one cache which no longer existed and was previously located in an area that became a dumping ground for trash, needles, and used diapers (saw a dung beetle rolling a baby nugget out of one). The fun of geocaching is that it's like hide-and-seek with electronic toys. Sometimes interpretation is required when reading the GPS and its coordinates in order to figure out where stuff should be. Also, it's fun to see how active some caches are or aren't. -b
  10. I liked Cycle Specialties when I went there. No problems with their accessories people or sales people. Also, +1 to Clinton County Motorsports. From my house just east of Dayton, it's 30 minutes taking the scenic route by motorcycle, or 20 by car/highway and I'll go there every time. I've used their service, parts, and accessories departments and was pleased every time. (However, I won't EVER be returning to Tegtmeyer just up the road from CCM.)
  11. I see what you did there...
  12. I have for sale a Gmax GM68 Odyssey helmet, size large. I mail-ordered it but it doesn't fit my head shape quite right. Great helmet, plenty of vents for great ventilation, plus a chin skirt for noise reduction. Helmet comes with clear shield, tint shield, helmet bag, shield bag, booklets, aka, everything it originally came with. Super gently used, like new. Worn only long enough to figure out that it didn't fit me quite right. Would like to see $80 for it. Beavercreek, OH 45430 PM if interested. Thanks, -Brian
  13. I bet you're getting a kick out of these replies. ;-)
  14. There's a guy driving a silver sedan that I occasionally see while driving home from work on one particular stretch of road. He's got his mom (maybe wife) in the car with him and whenever I encounter his car, he is usually passing (or attempting to pass) traffic left (yes, left) of center on a particular stretch of city road on the way home. Dude scares me and I'm tempted to call it in to the local PD, but not sure if they'd just write it off as "we didn't see it, can't do anything about it", or "not worth our time", or if they'd bust a nut getting to him if I (safely) followed him. Doesn't seem to be drunk driving, just very very aggressive and dangerous when in rush-hour traffic. So yea, I wonder if he doesn't like left-laners either.
  15. Fan fail... If ya wanna see something.. snicker dude should have thrown it from the BACK of the fan thru the blades.... then the edges of the fan blades would have caught it... throwing from the front is LAME. just bounces off the blades.
  16. I was out Saturday with wifey on the back for a commute to the parents. Good to be out and about. :-) 32 in the morning, but 47 when it's 5p, so I may bundle up and ride, but it's a big maybe at this point; depends on ice.
  17. probably not email, and definitely not IM (rarely on what i have, let alone another IM account!). Having said that, I could definitely see that it would be functionally nice to have a realtime group-oriented chat item when trying to organize rides with multiple people. Kinda like the shout-out box, but better and more like an IRC channel.
  18. Similar story for me about 6 years back. Had a critter chew up the car's spark plug wires and needed cables when it was about 30 and lightly snowing. Nice easy ride, but cold!
  19. Having been one, Nope, not surprising. Nor is it surprising that a dba would have enough "backup" sheet sets to feel that would be a benefit.
  20. For me, it depends on what it is. If it's an item that has to fit (clothes, helmet, shoes, etc), I buy from a brick&mortar store. If'n it's otherwise, I almost always buy online when the price, warranty, & store reputation can't be beat.
  21. Thanks. I looked at their website but it didn't list any AFX fullface helmets like the FX-90 or FX-95. I'll probably get the GM68; it was very comfortable in size large, but I need to re-check the fit to see if size Medium would be better (since they get looser after being worn a while).
  22. Anyone know for sure of a Brick&Mortar store "near" Dayton (ranging from Middletown to Vandalia to Springfield) that carries the AFX brand of helmets? I checked a few stores but they didn't carry that brand. I've got a top-4 list (gm68, exo500, cl-16, and fx-90) and it's the last helmet I want to try on before I buy one. Btw, if anyone is interested, here's a link to helmet weight comparisons: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmet-weights.htm it was useful to me for forming my shortlist of helmets based on internal shape and weight. Thanks, -b
