  1. Have you ever been to SC? Talk about slow talking slow moving people. I think I would go apeshit having to wait in line all the time. The only thing they have going for them is the weather and the mountains.
  2. the guy actually drives trains (engineer) for a living. Yeah, around here that name would be an issue...
  3. First bike: early 70's Honda QA50. 2 Speeds, no clutch. I rode it until a neighborhood dog grabbed hold of my leg and ran me into the ditch. It was fun. I wish I had one for my kids to putt around on. First real bike: 1973 CB350. It was cheap. $200 cheap. I cleaned the carbs, charged the battery, and rode it all over the place. I still have it. 1971 CB350. It was also cheap. $150. Very nice condition. I still have it. ... and then I wanted something I could ride without wrenching on all the time... 1995 Magna 750. One of my favorites. My first "real" motorcycle. I tuned it to perfection. The only flaws were mediocre brakes, and no room for a tall guy. ... and then I thought "wouldn't it be cool if my wife would learn to ride... 1998 Shadow ACE 750. Bought it for my wife. She liked the green and cream two-tone. She scared me, so I told her maybe it wasn't her thing. I rode it until it was sold along with the Magna to buy a house. ...1 year later... 1995 ST1100. Hated this bike. It was a boring pig of a bike. The only thing it did well was cruise on the turnpike at 90mph. Got rid of it when my kids were born. ...1 year later... I started thinking "maybe a lighter bike would be more fun. I think I'll get something small displacement and light, but big enough for my height... a coworker suggested a... 2007 DL650 WeeStrom. This bike is everything the ST1100 promised to be, yet a whole lot more fun (and really just as fast). A great do-it-all motorcycle. I love this thing. ... but then I got the itch for something with a little more performance... 2009 Triumph Speed Triple. More fun than should be legal. Future: A large thumper enduro for trail riding. more distant future: a large touring bike of some sort
  4. For some reason, the Stroms just attract that type rider. It must be something to do with being the most practical and versatile motorcycle ever built. I would be willing to bet that >50% riding them are engineers or IT guys.
  5. Hey... never said I wasn't included in that description. I don't have a problem with showing my pocket protector.
  6. V-strom events: the only way, other than a Star Trek convention, to get more geeks together in one place.
  7. And there's nothing wrong with having the parts made offshore... Showa, Brembo, Yuasa... all make a good product. It's the superiority complex that pisses me off. They've really got their loyal customers snowed.
  8. I had way too good of a time getting wasted there the last night of a business trip I was on.
  9. so true...they absolutely fucked up on that one. I think it was a pride thing. They couldn't sell the company to someone that was able to make it a success. Buell was juuuuussssst starting to make the right kind of motorcycle when they pulled the plug. About the Rocket III... I love Triumphs, but I've heard the same thing about that- it's a pig. Hell, it looks like they stole the engine from an old truck and sandwiched it into a bike frame. The redline is at 4750, if I remember right. I don't know about you, but I like something with a huge powerband, not a tractor. I think this is one that looks impressive on paper, but the actual execution isn't that appealing.
  10. That's the reality of staying in business. What's BS is the marketing department and every redneck loser flaunting them as the only "American" motorcycle, and therefore the only one worth riding. How many of you that ride Jap, Italian, or English bikes would do that? Of course, BMW guys are a little different, so I'll exclude them.
  11. 32.50, but that's my final offer (per month)
  12. I want this bike so bad. I could pay you $10 a week for 390 weeks. Heck, I'd even go 400 weeks just to make the deal.
  13. +1000000... the dumbing down of America, sponsored by... Harley Davidson.
  14. That's cool. Maybe next time. I'm always doing that route on the weekends.
  15. Cool. I do that route often. We'll have to get together and ride sometime.
  16. Still haven't left yet... be leaving around 11. Should be at the Deerfield circle around 11:20. Honk if you see the orange Triple.
  17. I'm looking at leaving my house in about an hour. Time is flexible though, if you want to go. That would be around 10:00
  18. I'm planning on doing this route tomorrow morning sometime: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=101994650053952760624.00048d1668d09fcb46d9d&ll=40.691052,-81.216431&spn=1.176621,3.348083&z=9
  19. If you're heading northeast out of Columbus, I would prefer to meet up with you somewhere along the way, rather than ride all the way into the city. Is that a possibility?
  20. What's funny is the real story. His buddy went out and poured a quart of oil under his bike. It's a fun and environmentally irresponsible trick to play on somebody that rides in to work. Be sure to put some somewhere on the motor to keep them looking for a while.
  21. BMW's quality has been slipping for a while. There are too many reporting final drive and transmission problems.
  22. If it's copper colored shavings, it's likely a bearing is trashed.
  23. Heck for $60 a month, why not keep it. I spend more than that on beer. I can tell you that it's nice to have some variety with the cycles. When you are in a better financial position, upgrade. On the other hand, if you really don't like the bike, do what others have said and list it for a reasonable yet high price, and wait for someone more attached to it to buy it. Go get something you like better. No point in riding something you don't love. I found that out with the ST1100 I had for a while. I HATED that bike... well, maybe hated is too strong. I never had any kind of attachment at all to it. It was the most appliance-like motorcycle I've ever owned. I absolutely love my V-strom that replaced it.
