There a few that I've considered buying, but then common sense kicks in and I talk myself out of it.

Is it worthwhile to own a cool classic bike from the 60s, 70s, or 80s?...or is it too much of a PITA to deal with carbs, old electrics, and leaky for seals?

I like and enjoy wrenching on bikes, but I think there is a line in there where I no way have the temperament to do any kinda resto on early 80s or 60s or whatever. Guys that do it are crazy for punishment but do have my respect.. Mbe if one was fully updated/restored already.... (naw)....

  2. Suggest looking up a few job hunting groups in the Dayton area. Start with the Panerians... check panerians.com

Sign up for unemployment soon.... and there's the resume on Monster requirement that goes with it.

Also, get a Linked in profile going, and file a resume on indeed.

I just went thru a long job hunt episode myself .. I also live in Dayton. PM  me if you want to trade notes.

Totally impractical, but I kinda like the 2nd gen Valkyrie.  It's a stripped down goldwing that weighs about 150lbs less.  It's a big motor, wheels, and not much else.

I am a big Valkyrie fan and when I heard that Honda was doing a 1800 version, I was kinda excited about it. I bet that bike is a great ride, but its sooo damn ugly. Seems like the same crew that did the VTX1300, the 1200 VFR also did the 1800 Valk.  I am a Honda crazy, but the design team needs a kick in the ass. (WTF r u thinking?)

I do have the original version and I like it as a laid back slacker cruiser for a ride on the local backroads. Mondo torque off idle, and crack it WFO and its got a great honking engine sound.  I dont think any twin would fill the bill as the flat six does...

Finally Honda decided to conform to the market and not be stubborn and keep making stuff according to their whims and fancy.

now this bike again will be a failure if they gonna slap on 18+ price range To it.

What is the base price on it?

I've always thought of myself as a "riding" enthusiast more than a "motorcycle" enthusiast.

There are certainly motorcycles that have caught my eye over the years, but I'm more drawn to capabilities than the actual machine...if that makes any sense.

I would agree with that......I like different "styles" of riding vs any one machine can do all. For quite awhile now, I have had some type of sporty type bike and then also a fat assed cruiser as a baseline. Plus off and on have added other bikes of interest..

For now if we are going "dreams",  I would be interested in some long haul bomber.. (GW or ST or FJR or BMW?) and have always itched for that perfect RC51 and a tricked out Truimph Truxton, mbe one of the new ducati V4 bikes and some type of street fighter... . .

  6. The smart lean is impressive stuff and a plus for safety. Not knocking any of it, technology marches on, but the thing is, I have seen it even with the start of ABS brakes, is that riders start appreciating less that riding is still a skill, that needs to be always learning, always looking to get better. With the new tech, many riders forget the skill part and then now depend on the tech to bail them out in iffy spots... I'm kinda saying - Skills first: Technology as backup....... as opposed to the opposite that seems to be trending... Technology first: skills second.

Indian def has some impressive bikes coming out....

Educate me.... What is Lipo4? I use cheap batteries from O'reilly because it's all that's available local and I'm usually changing it in a parking lot lol

Id love to find a battery that doesn't suck. Even Yuasa don't last. Gotta be the heat out here.

I corrected my note -- its LiFePo4 - Lithium Iron Phosphate... I'm on my 2nd, the 1st lasted 4 1/2 years, running the new one now..

I have had good luck with it. Stuff about it... if you let it sit in bike for around 8 weeks, parasitic losses will be a concern... a quick ride will keep it up.

For the season, I am never that long between rides, so it doesnt matter.

The only maintenance concern is it doesnt like to sit cold, so the recommended thing is to bring it in the house.

The static charged voltage is 13.3v so to start in November its 13.3 and when I check it in spring... its 13.3, no discharge with no load...

Some here say you need a charger... I debate that, its not my experience.... ---maybe if you leave it on bike, that may be true...

    > For you, being in Arizona, you may be hosed no matter what with the hot climate, and typical Honda charging systems just suck anyway...

Agreed. I rode my vfr through an Ohio winter as my only vehicle and the snow and salt wasn't kind to it. Constant battle to keep it clean and free of rust.

Also.... Even with a tender, my battery won't survive winter storage. If it sits for more than a couple months it needs a new battery. Maybe it's my bikes weak electrical system, but I think removing and taking inside is probably good advice. Doesn't hurt at least.

My vfr routine is stabil in the tank and then bring the LiFePo4 battery in the house and sit it on my desk.

Anybody have experience with the R3?  Seems the journos prefer the Ninja 400 based solely on speed, with the R3 having a bit more refined suspension.  I'm not sure how much difference it will make for my purposes.

I got a ride on a buddys R3 and I couldnt help but laugh my ass off. You have to wring the shit out of the engine, but it was light and flickable.. I didnt get a chance to try it in twists, but I bet I could do some good corner speed with it. - -I would love to stick one of the 300/400s in my garage for a twisty riot party...

(Add it to the wish list....)
