  1. I did it on my vfr and got sucked into the twistys and earned a ticket. 35 is too slow on a sporty bike. I want to get back on the Valkyrie for a laid back style ride and that will be much better. Major tip - watch out for deer and bears! Saw a couple bears and mucho deer. Especially in the late afternoon and evenings. Also take the wife out on some practice rides in SE Ohio for a warm up. Good luck
  2. The V4 is the soul of the bike. You know how sporty v twins have great mid range torque but top out at around 9-10K? And that inlines kinda miss something in the midrange but come alive if you rev it with red line at 13 - 14K? The viffer engine is the blend of the 2, wide tractable power mid to top, and with a top end hit too. - If that isnt enuff juice, theres a supercharger kit that will put in on par with liter bikes.
  3. Your list seems to be a confluence of stuff, but busa and blackbird come to mind. And the obvious.......
  4. I like the yahoo version ... http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/blog/from_the_marbles/post/Video-Two-cycles-dance-in-the-funniest-wreck-of?urn=nascar-wp2122 LOL!!!
  5. I had a 4th gen VFR and rode it for 28K miles. Great ride and loved the thing. But a vacation on a 5th gen had me wanting one. The engine is stronger and revs quicker than the 4th gen, and the bike overall just feels like that they took everything that was good/great about the 4th gen and amplified all that into the design of the 5th gen. Yeah I bought a '98. The gear driven cams are still alive and well. Of the 5th gens, there were 2 generations, the '98 & '99 and the '00 & '01. The '98s & '99s are the more coveted with the larger diameter headers and no cat. Good luck on the new bike search.
  6. I'm a diehard 5th gen VFR crazy, but that SV has about everything on it that you could want to upgrade on the thing. Still a VFR will do anything you want it to do long distance, twists and local commuting. I guess it depends what are you up for and what bucks you want to spend.
  7. 10,000 feet and 170 mph! OMG! That would bring a new meaning of riding to work....
  8. My guess is the PO used something like Armor All or STP on it. Not a good idea. Try toning it down with Meguiars Quik Interior Detailer. It cleans but doesnt leave a slick surface. I have an older corbin on the VFR that I clean it with that stuff. I usually condition the leather good once over the winter to keep it up.

  10. Hope the're ok too. I'm just saying it seems like the message is not getting out that while riding is fun, it takes a commitment on how to learn to ride to be safe and stay alive. Not that much different from flying an airplane. The guy gets his endorsement, grabs his wife, first day of riding in life, no helmet, and gets in a wreck. As an experienced rider, I just cringe.
  11. http://www.wdtn.com/dpp/news/motorcycle-crash-sends-two-to-the-hospital The report says the rider just recieved his MC endorsement that day. Newbie rider mistake again. There has been too many new rider crashes lately, maybe there is something the OR group can do to get the word out that riding a motorcyle is a skill and not a whole lot different than flying a Cessna to help?
  12. ^^^^ Not my taste, but interesting......
  13. Ok, if you change your mind let me know - PM. No hurry for me, in the someday column, I want to get a F4i wheel set up as a lighter weight alternate for my 98 viffer.
  14. I'd be up for the front if you would separate - does it have the bearings?
  15. The torque curve is impressive...
  16. A monster screen would be cool. heres a thruxton fly too http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/triumph/bonneville2001-06.htm good luck
  17. Dennis Kirk 120/70 - 17 front $85.99 180/55 - 17 rear $114.99 190/50 - 17 rear $133.99 http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/search/search.jsp?store=&resultType=subCategories&searchString=michelin+pilot+power&searchbtn.x=14&searchbtn.y=11
  18. Tip for some classic body work, maybe a front quarter fairing/cowl will suit your taste. http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/ Just an example, there are plenty others... http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/ducati/250350singleconv.htm Looking good!
  19. Yea, grab a new R/R. If you have a voltmeter and can find the + and - on the battery, crank it up and check battery at idle, 2000 and 5000 rpm. It should be in the 14.xx range at 2000 and 5000. With the headlight going bright/dim, my guess youll be seeing 15+ volts at 5000 rpm. If true, bad R/R confirmed. If also true, dont ride bike anymore till you change it.
  20. I know the R1 has the MOSFET design style, and looked it up on RonAyers.com - the part # listed was --- 5VX-81960-00-00 I checked it against your FZ6 part # ---- 5VY-81960-00-00 Ok a guess is it is the same design, anyway its OEM. http://www.ronayers.com/ProductDetails/N/687/SKU/818607 At 83 bucks, its a very fair deal. I'd go for it and look for a battery too. Another to do, is look at your stator connectors for discoloration to see if there is any arc ing. Btw - I've use RonAyers in quite a lot of bike parts. They are a first class outfit. Good luck
  21. I had the same finish on the Valkyrie and hated the damn stuff. I ended up paying somebody to polish the things and its worked out ok. I do a quick clean with Honda/Original polish and hit it with Meguiars tech wax, and if I am ambitous, go over it with Meguiars Mag/Aluminum polish first.
