The Libertarian in me agrees 100%, but that is not how things work in the US. Property owners around the lake will sue, and it is going to cost the state law fees at the minimum in compensation. Probably going to be costly law suits just because they kept the flood gates open this spring. There is no cheap way out of the mess at this point. My guess is that some temporary fix will be employed that maintains the lake. Then that temporary fix will end up be permanent until it reaches crisis level again. Craig

I agree about killing the local economy, however repairing the dam is not going to improve water quality. Lake water quality is primarily due to upstream and shoreline conditions in addition to lake depth. Since the tributaries will still be draining a fairly small area of mostly agriculture the problems will remain. Seems the dam problem is caused mostly by bad decisions about development. The reason for the lake no longer exists and it seems to be of poor health. Maybe it is best to return the stream to its natural flow. Compensating residents and businesses for loss in property values and incomes would be the biggest barricade. Craig

I like the beer snob list. I thought I was a beer snob but I guess I have a ways to go as only number 8 is true for me. I never did like BMC beer. Water is much better if that is the choices. I prefer drinking beer from a glass but any glass will do and I will drink from a bottle if necessary. I don't care for ice cold beer. You get very little aroma from it. Warm it up a little and the aromas really start to come through. I still prefer the beer cool but I can't stand when I get served beer with ice crystals because the glass came out of a deep freezer I do like guinness as a nice light beer for warm weather or with wings but I had a great Irish Stout at Market Garden Brewery in Cleveland. Guinness is not a "fork n knife" beer, though many craft stouts are. Guinness has fewer calories, alcohol and carbs than Bud, and less than half that of most craft stouts and porters. Craig

The CrossCheck is a well abused bike. I have destroyed 2 sets of wheel bearing and bottom brackets, countless brake pads, and a pair of rims due to riding it in all weather. Currently the seat post is frozen in the frame and there are plenty of nicks dings and a good build up of grime on the bike. Still it handles about anything. In my experience if you have gear for active activities outside in the winter, you have gear for winter fatbiking. It is a highly aerobic activity so you get warm fast. Only issue is usually feet and hands. I wear winter boots and use BMX style pedals to keep my feet warm and have added bar mitts for my hands. Before that I used ski gloves. i have been biking in all kinds of weather for a while so I have some cycling gear. For fatbiking I am usually wearing a softshell pant, under armor cold gear top under a winter weight cycling jersey. If its actively snowing I may wear a lighter top and wind jacket instead of the jersey. Really nothing too exotic. As long as it breaths well you can add/subtract layers until you are comfortable. Most of my stuff is discount active wear from closeouts or Costco. Nothing like pegging your heart rate while averaging 6 mph Craig

I did TORSV years ago. That ride was amazingly flat (at least back then). I over did it a little the second day an it took quite a while a the last rest stop before I was ready to ride again. But I finished into Columbus strong. The Cherohala metric looks interesting but the ride is the same weekend as my wife's bday. I would definitely be in the dog house if I did that one. I am looking at some gravel rides this year. Road Apple Roubaix in Feb, Amish Country Roubaix in April and Funk Bottoms Metric in May.

Pretty much all the current models from the big manufacturers. Any "concept" models or just announced models will be up on a platform. Just like the auto show if you have every been. I appreciate that Duc puts theirs on stands so you can easily get into the riding position so you can better test the ergonomics. The rest just have theirs on the side stand limiting that test some. A It is 2 hours from down town Columbus to the IX center according to Gmaps. Both Cbus and the IX center are right off I71 making the trip easy. You guys either drive slow or are enough off the direct route as to make your trip time irrelevant. I will be there Friday after work because it is 15min from work. We will see if I can ride my bike. Mantids don't bother with niceties like killing or paralyzing their prey. Just grab and start eating. Saw a documentary on NG or Discovery a while back that spent a half hour on Mantids. They had lots of video like the one above including a small snake that got a nice gouge eaten out of him before he got away. The variety of shapes and colors in tropical mantids is also amazing. +1 I work for the parent company Bandwidth is good on these types of systems but latency may be a problem depending on what you want to do with it. The satellite is over 25,000 miles up and your signal has to make that trip twice in each direction. So basically it is a no go for online action games. Streaming and downloads are no problem. Craig

The Placebo effect. Which actually I believe to more a matter of personal attitude. If a person believes that someone else praying for them is helpful and that person is telling them they are praying then there is a positive effect. A positive attitude can do much to help the healing process. True many believers go over board on this. Most realize that doctors are needed or believe doctors are gods tools for the healing. You just have to smile and nod you head to those people at times like that for the good of the patient. The ones that believe drs and science are bad are the ones your have to prevent from affecting the treatment. Craig

Wow my team is plummeting through the ranks. After having the top score the first week I have had league banishments, IR and injuries decimate the team in addition to most players underperforming. I'm in a race to the bottom right now. Sorry just needed to vent

Used Tacomas seem to want insane money. Used Subarus are pricey too but much better riding handling and fuel economy, if you don't need the hauling capacity. If she's anything like my wife its not about the practicality of the vehicle, its mostly about the look. Give her pictures of the vehicles you think would be good rather than specs. I still have not learned that lesson myself. The bad thing about used vehicle shopping is that the more reliable the reputation of a vehicle the higher the price all else being equal. You can often find much nicer vehicles from less respected brands at the same price point you will pay for high mileage vehicles from the premium brands. I often if the difference is really worth it or is there really that much difference. I often end up buy new and plan on keeping a long time, because the price difference is much smaller with new vehicles. Craig
