  1. LoJack works, but it's expensive. I'd go with full coverage and maybe a disc lock or a Kryptonite New York chain. The latter comes with a disc lock and can easily deter any wanna-be thief because it's nearly impossible to break in a short period of time (that's what I used to protect my SV650 in college). I'd agree with Tonik, you'd benefit more from full coverage and probably get more money back in a claim if anything did happen to it. I have the same problem at our apartment where we have no covered parking or garages (we're on the Columbus side of the Westerville line). We have full coverage insurance on our bikes and really don't do anything else for them, maybe a cover every now and then for the rain/snow. Aside from the insurance, we're not too concerned about theft. My FJR is very well-known and very undesired, and nobody knows what a Z1000 is (at least at Q-S-L bike nights).
  2. http://getspicychicken.com/ Chick-fil-A is doing a promo and giving away free chicken biscuit sandwiches for the rest of this week. It's a strange promo because you have to reserve the time and day to pick one up. Always love the breakfasts anyway. Put my reservation in. Enjoy!
  3. Agreed. There is absolutely no reason to winterize your bike in Ohio, unless you're trying to preserve it for the AMA museum. Weather out here is not shitty enough to justify even one drop of Sta-Bil.
  4. No, it was a school in Downtown Los Angeles, which was like a prison. The strange part was that the fire exits had no alarms attached to them so students could leave as they pleased. The building was actually designed to withstand an 9.0 earthquake (and the occasional drive-by shooting) but the builders failed to address the inability to get cell phone signals through the school because of the thick walls. And the district was too cheap to install signal repeaters because it would take a significant bite out of the then-superintendent's $3 million/year salary. Such priorities.
  5. The BT023s are the new OEM tire for the FJR1300 and there's been good feedback on their overall performance from what I read. I look for a "do-all" tire because that's what I pretty much do with this bike.
  6. Nice. My last employer did that without even using machines. Our building was built with two-foot deep concrete walls so signals never got through. You literally had to put your phone to the glass windows (which were bulletproof) to try to get anything. My solution was to use Skype through a web proxy to be able to call the front office if any problems did arise. Not bad for a school.
  7. I currently have Dunlop D616 tires on my bike. Love the longevity; I have 15k on the front tire and they still have good tread and previous rear tires have averaged at least 10k. The tread makes them awesome in the rain; however, the tire cups like crazy which makes taking curves a little funny at times. The plus? They're a decent price for what you get ($130-140 for rear tire and about $100 for a front) and the aggressive tread is great for some gravel roads. Also, if you're looking to just do straight highway, you'll get quite a few extra miles out of the rear tire with the amount of rubber on there. I am just killing this last pair and will be switching over to the Dunlop RoadSmarts or the Bridgestone BT023 tires. It'll most likely be the Bridgestones because of the triple compound rear tire. I do lots of slab time so the extra in the middle will help a lot.
  8. It was an easy ride today and the rain cleared up just in time. Still think they charged a little too much for that breakfast buffet, and they didn't have any horchata! So much for being a Mexican restaurant. 5-way split on Little Caesar's pizza next year!
  9. Should be leaving in about half an hour from now. Just a quick highway exercise.
  10. Have them. Love them. Last glove I use before I go to my heated Gerbings. No real break-in. Big selling points for me were the wide cuff, the easy-to-use (and durable) wrist strap, the reinforced knuckles, goat skin palm, and the waterproof liner. IP has them going for about $75. It took some time for Icon to go back to its roots and make nice gloves again.
  11. Nice choice on the gloves. Not surprised that they're hard to find right now because they're real popular. I've ordered from Dennis Kirk before and they're fast shippers.
  12. Grabbing the keys and I'm outta here...after baking some cookies for a party tonight.
  13. Why is it that most of the accessories that are made for this bike are either tasteless, useless, or pointless?
  14. Take care and enjoy the new scenery!
  15. Eh...I've ridden through lots of this crap and the bike's still fine. I guess I see it a little differently; I have no reason to sell my bike and the thing is never standing in one place long enough to even look pretty. It's not like anyone would want to buy my FJR with the amount of miles it has anyway. I bought it to be my primary mode of transportation and my all-purpose bike. It's with me until the day it dies so it will continue to do its job and be a long distance motorcycle. Salt...that's what water hoses and soap are for! Flying Brick borrowed the bike to ride to work, so I'm riding tomorrow. And New Year's Day. And until the snow comes back.
  16. Me likes. Like any other awesome bike that goes to Europe first, betcha it'll never make it across the ocean or probably only be available for two years on a limited production run. That's what happened to the W650.
  17. Agreed on the too flippin cold part. I'd find it more enjoyable if I wasn't freezing my tail off. Hoping that next week's call for showers and temps in the mid 40s will really happen.
