If your car can use a class 2 hitch and you can get a lightweight trailer, I'd say you can do it. Our top speed was 70mph, 30mph when going up the CO mountains. Good luck.

I don't think you need brakes on the trailer. We drove from CA to OH with my BMW, Z1000, scooter, and other junk with no problem. We have a Subaru wagon though. If you mount the wheel chocks towards the rear of the trailer, that will reduce the weight on the hitch. You should have no problem pulling one bike, two might be an issue. What size engine do you have in your car?

If a section of road was so badly covered in snow and ice, I was never going fast enough to low side - nor were cars traveling fast either. When I rode to work, I would follow the tire tracks left by the cars, and I would try to stay on more traveled roads. Navigating turns wasn't an all out super-moto style powerslide either. Also, I live in Columbus, not Fargo. The only bad days were during a snow storm, or right after. One day after a storm, and all the major roads are clear of snow. The only thing that kept me from riding my BMW to work was getting it out of my neighborhood - I don't think they ever plowed it. It's much harder to keep a 650lb motorcycle with a high center of gravity upright than a 120lb scooter with a very low center of gravity. It should be noted that the best my scooter can do is 42mph. Downhill. With a tailwind. I wasn't getting it sideways at 140 or anything.

Based on that logic, it's not really any different than riding in the rain, or at night for that matter. In fact, why am I riding at all? I could be run over at any minute!

That was how I got to work all last winter - on my 1986 Honda Aero 50. It's amazing how 10 inch dirt bike tires and 3.5 horsepower can get you through snow and slush faster than a car. Keep in mind I did this all winter. I never crashed. I did pass a few cars in the ditch though. It never left me stranded; that kick starter proved quite useful. Of course I had full gear on, I stayed dry and mostly warm (the heated gloves help). The big question is, would you rather lose control of a $150, 120 lb scooter, or a $5000+, 3000 lb car? Guess which one will cause more damage.

I mount my own tires to save money; I bought a bead breaker from Harbor Freight and use a few tire levers. Soapy water to put the new tires on. For balancing I use Ride-On, it's a puncture hole sealing and tire balancing goo you put inside the tire after mounting. It takes some practice to change it quickly, try to find a few videos on youtube for visual tips.

If they make a K1600S or R, I'm in. The GT just doesn't do it for me. Can't wait to test ride one though.

You're probably exactly right. But I'm not getting enough back to get a true replacement, and a $1000 deductible doesn't help. Seriously messed up some of our wedding plans too. But mostly, the fact that they drove away when I could have been dead or dying in a ditch really bothers me.

True, but not practical. I ride everyday. Having a video camera on at all times would get really annoying.

I had the same thoughts. Lawyer said it would just get thrown out. The police said the driver would likely get it repaired by a shady bodyshop. Insurance said without getting a plate number, there is not much I can do. Had I not left for my wedding, I might have stormed in there. The only piece of the car I have is the wheel cover, the VIN isn't on that for sure.

I hit the passenger side rear, above the tire. I somehow ripped off their wheel cover too, which I kept.

I know it was Blue Cab. But because I didn't get the plate number, there's not much I can do. At least that's what insurance and a lawyer told me.

I couldn't ride there because of my shoulder. I was able to ride part of the way back on Friday. Even if I was fine, the Z1000 is a bit rough to ride to Chicago and the Honda tops out at 37mph.

I was taken out by a taxi making a left turn as I was coming home from work the night of the 3rd. I don't know if they didn't see me or just hate motorcycles, because they drove off. Did about $8k in damage, as I was going 45mph. I slid across 3 lanes into a ditch; ATGATT saved my life. Only damage to me was a bruised hip and a really sore shoulder. The icing on the cake was that it happened the night before the_silverfox and I were leaving for Chicago to get married. So we had to ride 2-up on her bike and pull the mini trailer. If anyone sees a blue and white taxi with a giant dent and a missing hubcap, please punch them in the face for me.

BMW K1 or a Honda CBX.

My BMW has two radiators, one on each side. It works for my bike.

I use helmet speakers and have a AM/FM/WB radio on my bike. I can still hear horns and police sirens. It makes long trips much easier.

Shoei X-12, Dainese touring jacket, Olympia over-pants, Cortech gloves, and Thor boots. If it's raining, I have waterproof Alpinestar boots and gloves, and a set of Frog Toggs. If it's snowing, I add Tourmaster heated gloves and some windproof gear.
