Would you need a stator, if you just kick started it and used a battery for lights and turn signals? I mean, yeah the battery wouldn't get charged, but you could do that on a trickle charger while it sits in the garage over night, right? Just trying to understand the process of converting dirt to street (sm). Yours looks awesome...love it. Thanks. -

Just curious. I have heard stay away from the true motocross bikes to convert to sm, because of the high maintenance and the extra time/money to convert it to steet legal status. Just curious, how much of a hassle would it be to convert say the CRF450R or YZ450F or KX450F to sm status for the street hooligan in me? Thanks again. -
Hi, I am wondering if there are any SuperMoto track days or such in Ohio or around Ohio during the summer months? Does Mid-Ohio host sm days? I am working on getting a sm and just wondering what options I have for track days. Thanks in advance. OhioBob

Hi, I am on the hunt to figure out what bike is a good base for urban assault fun. The Honda CRF450X or the Yamaha WR450F. Would these be great bikes to start my supermoto conversion with? Or would you recommend something else? Reason I am thinking of these two bikes is the weight...I know a CR450R or a YZ450F would be a blast because they are extremely light. Just wondering what you think. Thanks in advance. OhioBob

I was thinking of making a supermoto for the street, but sometimes I would take it to the track. I am not looking at using it for road trips, but just to tear up the town and urban assault kind of fun. So, small gas tank would be fine to me. I am really wanting to keep it light, 250lbs or so ready to ride. I have my VTX for road trips and working on getting a CBR954RR for some fun a little further outside of town and track days. You know, each style has a purpose and best use. Just want to make sure I get a good base to start with for my sm. Thanks.

Would like some feedback from others who have already went down this road. What dirtbike(s) is good to convert to sm? Your experience is most valued. Or what enduro would make a good/great sm? Thanks in advance. OhioBob

Hi, I am needing some help. I am thinking about taking a Honda CRF450R and turn it into a SuperMoto bike. My concern or question is, what are the Ohio BMV laws about taking a dirt bike and turning it into a street legal bike? I know Honda makes a CRF450X that is ready to go, but have you seen the weight difference between the two? The 450R is like nearly 50lbs. lighter. That would be a hoot to ride, wouldn't you say? Just trying to get some info on whether this is doable. Thanks in advance. OhioBob

What mods have you done or can be done to a CBR954RR?

OK, I see your point Bad324. So, what is your list of motorcycles to try out or have tried out? -

Thanks for the links...but the SV1k is more than I want to pay for. The FZ1 is a pig when it comes to the weight of it, compared to the CBR. -

Yeah, I know there are more options out there these days, but some are pretty expensive if you ask me. I do like the Brutale, but don't have the job or dough to back it up. LOL So, the next best thing is to go with a sportbike and change the ergos. Sweet!!! Some of us have to learn the hard way. LOL -

OhioBob replied to OhioBob's topic in Tech and Tips
Yes, I probably will need to use the "original" TC, (right wrist control). C-bus, yes, I am still considering my options. However, some had me talked into a SV1000 a while ago, but they are actually harder to find than the 954RR. And to be honest I want an inline-4. It has always been a toss up between the 954RR or the 08'-newer 1000RR. The more research I have done has me leaning towards the 954RR because of the weight and less powerful. It will be a streetbike, probably more likely a streetfighter before it is over with. Not because I will wreck it, but because I really like the standard bike look, but want the sportbike performance. Sorry to be "trolling?" but I just like to weigh all my options before jumping. Money doesn't grow on trees...well, sorta. LOL Anyways, thanks for all the responses. I just wanted to know what all was out there for the 954RR. Thanks again. OhioBob -

Who makes the Traction Control and quick shifter for the CBR954RR? I looked and looked and could not find anything on it. I see that BAZZAZ makes these products for the 08'-newer CBR1000RR. Thanks. -
Hi, I am wondering what mods can be done to a CBR954RR to better it? Like PowerCommander, aftermarket exhaust, steering dampner, better brakes, better suspension, etc.? What about Traction Control units or quick shifters? Just wondering. OhioBob Just a couple more days until Honda SuperCycle Weekend. WooHoo!!!!

OK, I am sold on the SV1k. Now I am on the hunt for one. Thanks to all. Hopefully, I will be able to meet up with you all soon enough on my SV1k and carve some twisties with you.

I would like the sportbike performance (engine - hp/torque, suspension, brakes, lightness, etc) but with better more comfy ergos. So, I was thinking of a CBR954RR with LSL handlebar kit conversion or maybe a SV1k or FZ1. Just not sure yet, so that is why I am asking. Thanks.
-
What could be done, if even possible, to lighten the SV1000 or FZ1, besides aftermarket pipes and maybe wheels? I know it will never be a full blown sportbike, especially the weight, but I am wonder about trimming weight to get it down to 450lbs ish wet. That probably isn't even possible, huh? Would swapping the SV1000 stock front forks with GSXR750 help? If so, what year GSXR750 will work with SV1k? Just wondering. Thanks. OhioBob
-
Yeah, it is all good. I did search google and such to find what I was looking for, but I was looking for others that have personal experience with the conversion kit, not just pictures. Like I said, I was curious. Thanks to all.

Just curious. Does anyone have a CBR954RR with LSL handlebar kit on them? Or have seen someone with it? Any pics? Just curious. OhioBob

What year did the 2nd gen come out for the SV1000? I did some searching and found the 2nd gen years for the SV650 and found something saying that the TL1000 was the 1st gen and the SV1000 was the second gen, but no real confirmation. Anyone know? What about the SV1000 oil starvation issue while performing wheelies? Thanks. OhioBob
-
Yeah, I was thinking of a naked SV1000 or at least converting the SV1000S to the naked or N version. So, LSL conversion would be first on the list. I saw a YouTube video of a SV1000 that had black frame and wheels. I guess they started that in 2005 (K5)? The SV1000 seems to be the bike I am wanting, but the overall wet weight and concerns of reliablity of Suzuki has me second guessing. I mean after all, I am a Honda guy, but unfortunately, until recently Honda didn't produce anything like the SV1000 or FZ1, accept for the 919, which is next to impossible to find now that it is discontinued.

Nah, no camping for me this time. I am riding up with a buddy from work on Saturday morning and back home that evening. Hope to meet everyone up there. Is OhioRiders going to have a place to meet other members at the race? Ride Safe & Ride Often. OhioBob

OK, this is probably not the place to ask this, but I am wondering if OhioRiders has T-shirts for sale? I thought I have seen some forum members wearing them around Columbus. I would love to purchase one. Thanks in advance. OhioBob

It is coming soon. My local church is doing it's annual bike ride. Come on out and join us. There will be a live band and free food...and of course a bike ride. Date: June 26, 2011 (Sunday) Time: 10:30am (Worship service) / 11:30am Food & Fellowship / 1pm Bike Ride Location: Leesburg, OH (Leesburg United Methodist Church) http://leesburgunitedmethodistchurch.com/ If I can get an Ohio Riders T-shirt before then, I will be wearing one, so look for it and we can meet up. Would love to meet everyone here there. I am always looking for more riding groups. Ride Often & Ride Safe. OhioBob

OK, last time on this topic...I would like opinions, especially from owners of these bikes. Which would you pick and why? Suzuki SV1000 OR Yamaha FZ1 (2nd Gen) OR (maybe even the) Kawasaki Z1000 (03' - 06') I really like the naked look. I have thought about the new Yamaha FZ8 or the Honda CB1000R or the Kawasaki Z1000, but those are brand new bikes with brand new price tags too. I am looking for a great naked (standard) bike in the used market. I know the US FZ1 comes with a half fairing, but I am sure I could get the N parts from Europe to convert it, right? I know these two bikes are like comparing apples to oranges, but just curious of who prefers the v-twin to the inline4 and why. So, I have narrowed it down, just want more info before proceeding. Yes, I know I should go find them and test ride them, but that is next to impossible. Who will let you test ride a bike these days? I am more likely to test ride a corvette or camaro than a bike, right? Thanks in advance. OhioBob
