  1. I am a little North of you but I can get to Chillicothe in less than an hour. You know us deep South Ohioans have some great roads / riding near us. OhioBob
  2. Awesome to hear that the CSBA is still around. I finally got a sportbike so I can join. I know you don't need a sportbike, but it seems odd to me to be a part of a club that has sportbike in the name without owning a sportbike. Anyways, I won't be able to make it this time, but I will keep an eye out for future rides. If you all ever get down my way. Let me know St Rte 247 in Adams County is very nice and twisty. Also, St Rte 125 around Blue Creek and Shawnee State Forest is nice and twisty too. Love those roads. Also, my church has a yearly ride event every 3rd Sunday in June. OhioBob <*//><
  3. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes nothing. So, I am looking at upgrading my current GoPro which is the original HD Hero 1 Motorsports Edition to the latest Hero 3+, but I cannot decide or figure out which one I should get, either the Black Edition or the Silver Edition. So, my question is who all has the Silver Edition Hero 3+? How do you like it? Besides the savings of $100 over the Black Edition, what made you decide on the Silver Edition and not the top dog (Black Edition)? I am looking at the specs comparison on GoPro's site and some of it is gibberish to me at the moment. However, some nice features on the Black Edition are Burst Photo rates of up 30 in 1 second compared to the Silver Edition's 10 in 1 second. Another is Continuous Photo shooting on the Black Edition whereas the Silver Edition doesn't have that capability. Still few other features of the Black Edition that seems nice is the SuperView, Protune and Auto Low Light adjustments that the Silver Edition doesn't have. Other than these mentioned features built into the Black Edition camera and coming with the WiFi Remote there doesn't seem to be much difference in the two edition. But I am wondering how much of these features are used on a daily basis or on average. I mean I am no professional photographer and don't plan to be one. I just want to be able to film my trips down the road on two wheels and such. So, I am wondering what others went with and how well it meets their needs and if they regret not going with the Black Edition instead. Thanks in advance. OhioBob
  4. Tpoppa, Yes, that is the one I read rumors about a while back. Good to hear they are serious about racing again. Sad, it will be too much for my blood. At that price I might as well just jump on the Aprilla bandwagon. But I sure hope it is a leap forward so they dominant for a while. Also, yes, I know that Honda uses V4 technology in their MotoGP bikes, heck they even used a V5 engine years back. Anyways, I was just curious of what they might bring out to replace or along side the CBR1000RR for us mere mortals. Sounds like it is too crazy for my pocket book. Oh, well, at least I can dream once again of Honda greatness. Thanks for the quick responses. Now to get through this thing called Winter. Arghhhhh. OhioBob
  5. Not the VFR, but something more modern and sportier. I know the VFR was based on the RC30, but something that can compete with other manufacturer's literbikes out there. I have heard great things about the VFR800, but I don't really like the look of it and besides it is a hoss compared to the CBR1kRR. I thought I read rumors about them offering a RV something next year or in 2015, but never heard whether it was confirmed to be true. I just know that the CBR1kRR is getting served every race in the SBK and it frustrates this Honda fan boy. Just was curious.
  6. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I have seen the popularity of the V4 motor for years and now that Aprilla seems to be dominating with their RSV4 and Yamaha has their crossplane inline 4, I was wondering if Honda was going to up their game, especially in the sportbike scene to maybe the V4 again. It seems to be the best of both worlds motor, other than the inline 3 motor that Triumph offers and now Yamaha is bringing out their version with the crossplane inline 3 coming in the FZ-09 next year. I know Honda CBR1000RR has been poorly represented in the SBK series and I would think that it would indicate that Honda needs to up their game. I think a V4 1000cc sportbike would be perfect. Anyone heard anything on this? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance. OhioBob
  7. I had my Bell Star for about two years now and it is awesome. I got it at www.motorcyclecloseouts.com for just under $200 and it came with 3 lens (two clear and one smoke) and a few extras, plus a sweet helmet bag. Not bad for a helmet that retails for $550. I wouldn't trade if for nothing. It fits perfect. Yes, it is a bit loud, but it pushes alot of air through to keep you cool on those hot humid days. Just wear ear plugs if it is too loud. I love it so much when the time comes to replace it I will be getting another Star, probably the Carbon and I don't care if I have to pay full price for my next one. It is that good. And having the option of other lens, especially the transitioning lens, makes this helmet all the more sweeter to me. Just my .02 OhioBob
  8. Any old heat sink paste will do. I normally just use whatever comes with the retail CPU. I am sure you can pick regular heat sink paste at RadioShack. For all other computer parts, I have always used Newegg.com. Hope that helps. OhioBob
  9. redkow97, You bring up a good point about tire pressures. I have been running the Honda factory recommended tire pressures of 36-front/42-rear. So, what should I be running on the street for spirited twisty back country roads?
  10. Would slicks be street legal? I know that is a silly question as I am asking for sticky tires for road use which would mean I am not going to necessarily ride legally all the time on the street. But I am just asking.
  11. Hi, I am looking at getting new tires while the end of season tire sales are going on and wondering what to try next. Currently, I have Michelin PP2CT on my 2006 CBR1000RR that have about 1,300 miles on them. I don't ride in the rain or on wet roads. I am not planning any track days at the moment but still want the stickiest tires for country twisty back roads. I don't care about longevity (mileage). I just want grip for my 2006 CBR1000RR. What would you recommend? Dunlop Q2's? Dunlop Q3's? Michelin PP3's? Or something else? Thanks in advance. OhioBob
  12. I have had my Bell Star Contra for about 2 years and must say it is the best helmet I have ever owned. I have tried Icon, Shoei, Arai, Vega, HJC, etc. And my Bell Star is right up there with the premium helmets of Shoei and Arai by far. It is so light and fits so snug and comfy. It even comes with a very nice helmet bag and extra shields. I couldn't pass it up as it only cost my $200 back then. Not bad for a $550 helmet. In addition, Bell is American company so I like to support American whenver I can. It has amazing ventilation and even Josh Herrin in AMA Superbike series runs a Bell Star helmet so you know it is great for track days. I must say that I am a Bell Star guy now. I couldn't go back even if I tried. I told my wife that when it is time to replace this Bell helmet that I will pay the full price for a new one...it is that good. I have my eyes on the Bell Star Carbon...someday...someday.
  13. Yes, I have test rode a FZ1 and FZ8 which both where pretty nice, but test riding a R1 was very addicting when that motor came alive. I can always make adjustments/mods to make it more comfy later.
  14. Yes, what they said. XR650 is a pig compared to a racing style CRF450X. It weighs 250lbs and produces roughly 50 rwhp and 50lbs of torque that is immediately felt when you snap that throttle. Wheelie machine, it is. Crap the more you guys talk about this the more I am having second thoughts. LOL Nah, I need to get rid of it before I mess my back up worse than it is now. I guess it would be more fun if I had a group to ride with around here and a go kart track to have track days on, but I don't. So, I just go around town raising cain and getting all kinds of looks. If you want a show stopper or sleeper this is the bike. I truly believe it can wipe the floor with sportbikes up until about 60-70MPH after that then the sportbike will kick into its power range and blast past. However, twisties are a different story too. Youtube Tail of the Dragon and you will find many sportbikes trying their best to keep up with supermoto style bikes. I am just looking for something that I can travel a little farther with yet have some performance still compared to my VTX.
  15. Have you ever rode a supermoto? As a previous member said, dirtbikes in supermoto form are beasts. They truly are a handful and then some. If I decide to go the sportbike route, it would actually be a step down in performance vs a supermoto. Supermoto is instant on and off power. Don't get me wrong it is instant fun and tons of it, but I am just too crippled or too old to truly enjoy it the way it was meant to be. I need to get rid of it to someone who can really do it justice. And MidgetTodd, I would have if I saw your earlier post/thread. Remember, I just got back on this forum for the first time in about six months. Anyone interested in trading a CBR for it, PM me. I will entertain reasonable trade offers/prices, etc. Who knows, maybe we will both get what we want.
  16. PM me MJ 88 for a price. I just posted it up on CL in Cincy forum. It has everything and then some. I just am not cut out for it. I tried it, but just too much a bike for little old me.
  17. So, the other day in Hillsboro, I saw a fellow OhioRiders.net bike sitting in the parking lot of the hospital. It was a Kawasaki ZX-6R, I believe. I was wondering if you (owner of the bike) find this thread that you will trying and get in touch with me. I am always looking for other riders, especially fellow OhioRiders.net. Currently, I have a VTX1300C and a CRF450X-SM that I in the process of trying to sell so I can replace the supermoto with a sportbike. Anyways, look me up sometime. See you around. Ride Hard or Stay Home, OhioBob
  18. Hey MJ 88. Good to see you are still around. Don't worry about the parts. Get it to me when you can. I am just keeping my short blasts local right now until I can get the speedo fixed. I have a rough idea how fast I am going based on what gear and RPM's. However, speaking of track days, the G&J seems like fun. I visited the Circleville one last year on my way up to Put-n-Bay on vacation. I know trackdays will require more equipment purchases for me. I need everything. Argh... Thanks for all the replies.
  19. Hi, I am on the lookout for a supermoto school. Or a training day that offered by supermoto experts/gurus. I want some pro guidance on wheelies, stoppies, backing it in, etc. I know practice, practice, practice is the key, but maybe some tips and tricks learned by others. Does anyone know of such an event in Ohio? Also, does anyone know if the Mid-Ohio course allows supermoto's on for trackdays? Any supermoto riders in Southern Ohio? Would love to meet up. Just wondering. Thanks in advance. OhioBob
  20. Sounds like you need to take a MSC to get the basics down. The fun about motorcycles is leaning into the corners. Why do you think I have a supermoto... Best lean angles on the planet. PERIOD.
  21. Looking for any supermoto (aka moto) riders around me. I have my moto together and it hauls. Problem is I am getting the itch to ride with a group again and would love to tear it up and wreak havoc with a group of moto guys & girls.
  22. It is so far away for me, but sure does look like an the perfect road for my supermoto. LOL....Heeheheheheheheheee So, many roads are not worthy of my moto, but this one sure looks like it would give it a run for its money. (Do it moto style...grab a healthy dose of throttle and hold on, because it will stick.)
  23. Yeah, it may top out low, but I bet it gets there in a flash. These things are a blast, but with high performance comes with it higher maintenance. It is worth it to me though. Best fun on two wheels, bar none.
  24. Not sure if they had it Saturday. I didn't go for the same reasons. I too agree about the agressive riding position of sportbikes, but the motor was the part I was wanting to check out. Besides get some handlebars and risers and turn that sportbike into a super-naked / touring bike. That is what I would do to any modern sportbike. The best of both worlds. I wanted to try the VMax, as well. The FZ1 Gen II has always been on my short list. Especially, if I could turn it into a FZ1N. Look it up...it is big in Europe. Love the look of the FZ1N. I will definitely being attending next year for sure. I will try to have my OhioRiders tag (OhioBob) stuck somewhere next year to make sure I run into any of you on here out there. OhioBob
  25. OK, so I did the CCM Demo Days on Friday and it was a great time. Only downside was you could only do 3 rides per day. I liked the fact that there were plenty of different bikes to demo. Also, liked the fact that I could ride and not deal with any nagging/annoying sale people. They all were laxed and just hanging out. I finally got to test ride a FZ1 which I have always wanted to for years. I noticed the motor was a bit buzzy. Then tried the FZ8, which felt noticeably lighter/smaller than the FZ1 but didn't seem to have the grunt like the FZ1 did. Lastly, I tried the 2011 R1, which comes with traction control. Love that motor. Man, that thing is addicting. I am glad I don't own a sportbike, I would be in jail by now. LOL All in all a great day off from work. As for the CRFx, no biggie, just replace the valves with Kibblewhite stainless steel ones and presto a great reliable machine...I mean after all it is a Honda. :-)
