  1. If you think the sound is linked to your hard drive then you'd better replace it because it's going to fail. At the vey least make sure you have current backups. The Clonezilla CD mentioned by Wrillo can be good but some find it hard to use. Take a look at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. Most hard drives in the last 5 years have this self monitoring technology in them. I can't recommend a windows program to use to read the log but I'm sure you can find one on the net or someone here will know. This s.m.a.r.t. log will show you if you have a bad spot(s) on your drive. I'd recommend everyone look at it occasionally while your drive can still spin. Once the drive stops spinng and starts clicking then it's too late. Salvage the magnets (good for making your own tank bag) and use the platters for the face of a clock.

  4. Here's a follow up... One of the sets of replacement bulbs that I ordered has come in. It's the "Spinning" LED bulbs from eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-36-LED-SPINNING-BRAKE-TURN-TAIL-LIGHT-PART-1157-BULB_W0QQitemZ370332902079QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item56398fa2bf $4 includes shipping. First thing I noticed was that they don't spin. With or without the brakes being on the light pattern does not spin. Vendor is refunding my money and told me to keep the bulbs. Second thing I noticed was you guys are correct, they are not as bright as the regular 1157 bulbs. The picture below shows the comparison. All photos are with the brakes ON. The bike on the left has two 36-LED white bulbs. The bike in the middle has a 36-LED white bulb in the left socket and a regular bulb in the right socket. The bike on the right has two regular bulbs. I'm waiting on some 36-LED red bulbs to come in. I'll post pictures when they come in. For now I'm back to using regular bulbs. I'll keep the LED's in the saddle bags as emergency replacments.

  15. My wife wears a Joe Rocket jacket of fabric and mesh with a removeable liner that has shoulder, elbow and back armor in it. I think she got it from www.newenough.com She likes it because she can wear it in the summer and it's not too warm. She had a relatively low speed spill and the armor really saved her arm from some damage. I'm sure just a leather jacket would have done the same for the road rash, don't know about the actual impact injuries. I guess my point is 1) armor is worth it 2)buy a jacket that you can wear in warm weather. The full face helmet kept her jaw in one piece. You might want to check out Leather Up: http://www.leatherup.com/c/Womens-Motorcycle-Jackets/sortby_price/sortby_price/2/103.html I vote for the "Shift" if it's got armor.
  16. Welcome to the site. If it's going to stress out your wife everytime you ride then you got to ask yourself is it really worth it? Pick up a hobby that the entire family can enjoy (maybe camping, fishing or hiking). Figure out something you can do with your kids. I don't know if I'd sell the bike because you might be able to get a ride in once in a while but putting the time in with the family is the "real man" thing to do in my mind.
