I'm not sure what you mean by lucky but they definitely look bent, looking at the picture posted in the hocking ride thread (unless the camera has a fisheye lens, then I'm not so certain). Here for reference. In reference to the frame, it really depends on how deep you want to look. It won't be noticeable on a ride, but if the crash was bad enough to bend the front rim and the forks like that then I am willing to bet it is a little bent. He has to be a baller; 21 year old with a brand new $11k motorcycle, insurance out the ass, and not even flinching at an estimated $3k repair bill. Honestly, how he described it in the op, I thought it would be a lot worse and $3k would be very conservative. Looking at the picture, the small things that cost a lot (gauge cluster, upper, headlamp, radiator, etc) seem to be in good condition. If IP wants to be really thorough, they might recommend new upper/lower triple with bearings, maybe clip-ons if they don't fit and got bent (toss up looking at one picture), straightened/new forks, new front wheel, and finally the plastics. Hell, I even see a mirror still in tact! But all of this is pure speculation, I was bored and wanted to analyze what it would take to get it back on the road; its a habit now, I'm afraid.

I started out on a carb'd 600 and I am still here to tell the tale. I can't say whether or not I would be a better rider if I had started out on something smaller (or even dirt bikes) but I do wonder about it sometimes. I did take a lot of time to learn what I needed to do and the most common pitfalls before I even got on a bike. It was still no comparison to actually getting out there and getting experience though, that is the only real way you will get better. Even if you start out on a 250 and jump to and modern supersport you have the same possible pitfalls because they are so extremely different. If you care enough to ask and hopefully learn as much as you can before getting out on the road by yourself (i.e. MSF before too much riding or the ilk) then you will probably be ok. I also agree with redkow97 that knowing how to drive a manual prior to riding is very advantageous. After trying to teach one person how to ride and use a MT at the same time, I have refused all further requests for teaching unless they know how to drive a stick (:bj:)

I put them in when I changed my first front by hand. I was amazed that they worked (didn't think the inner tire surface would allow them to roll properly). I can't tell you about long term side effects or anything, but they worked at advertised till I sold that bike and bought a proper tire changer + balancer.

I meant it to read "With the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings". Since you singled out those two cities, the assumption was that it was solely about the atomic bombings. The pamphlet you posted is about the firebombing (and is even labeled that way). They were not excluded from this, but pamphlets ceased leading up to the atomic bombings both for the reason you mentioned (fear of it not working) and to increase the psychological effects (as I mentioned). We did not tell them something big was going to happen, we were actually trying to end it before the atomic bombs needed to be used since just about everyone in the know was lobbying against its use (except top military brass). We were truthful and fairly consistently with the firebombings when leaflets where dropped but didn't warn of the atomic bombings. With Normandy, I wouldn't consider it "clearly talked over radios" but rather "mentioned in passing". I completely agree with everything else. This small change underlines the deception role and further intensifies it being an assistant landing point so that attention was not sparked when troops showed up. The most obvious is NOT the truth in these scenarios. The most obvious with the atomic bombings would be that there was no bombings scheduled at all, let alone an entirely new bomb. With the invasion, it should have been at two points in the North and South rather than Normandy. In both cases we needed to deceive. Extrapolating this out, Best Korea would be sending small/mid range missiles to Guam or South Korea since they have been bolstering imminent, full scale nuclear attack on the US (people would generally think mainland). I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they did do that, and subsequently a Gulf War scenario play out. My bets still lie with the military leaders in N. Korea not wanting to move and would rather take out dear leader (?) themselves then allow their cushy lifestyles to end abruptly.

I have been reading them for years, there are a lot of good instructables that can get you started in a huge variety of topics. I have been turned on to many topics just from initially reading something there. I should warn that false information is just as easy to post as correct information and the comments don't always catch the problems. I would consider it good for a primer or introduction, but if you are going to expand a build then you should seek additional resources to ensure your parameters are still met.

We absolutely did neither of those things. The US was already at war (entered in '41, Normandy was in '44) and they knew we would have to enter into battle overseas so we specifically leaked tons of information to cloak where we would actually land (operation bodyguard). With Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they were specifically EXCLUDED from the leaflet "bombings" so it would cause the greatest psychological aftereffect. We dropped leaflets to warn of various air raids, which would then happen, but the atomic bombing were left out of that strategically. He does need to prove his worth, and that is exactly what he is doing. The military leaders are not stupid people, they are not as censored and realize that they could never win in an all out war. He can, however, win over the general public by lying to them and censoring anything that contradicts him. I don't understand the fascination with a preemptive strike either. Allied/Coalition/whatever soldiers WILL die if there is a war. Not only that but the generations of disfigurement from chemical/nuclear fallout through all of the Pacific and animal death resulting in further starvation of innocent bystander countries. People that want that and actively campaign for it are heartless and ignorant. I don't much mind the idea of a CIA take down (power vacuum is a whole different can of worms) but to actively lobby for innocent deaths shows some sort of developmental retardation (al la Erikson et al.). If a country was going to attack another, they wouldn't announce it for 3 months and let the other prepare defenses. I don't think they will do anything, and if they do there will be a shit storm from S. Korea and China and everything will be over before we know it. Any preemptive attacks by the US would kill a massive amount of innocent civilians, both through direct and indirect means. tl;dr: The civilians think N. Korea could win, the people in power are not that dumb. They are posturing because a new, inexperienced, young, and fat leader doesn't instill confidence until he does something.

I liked both, but the movie was better because I am lazy and have a poor attention span . I think I read the first one before I even had a bike which helped a lot. I don't remember the 2nd one having terribly more information than the first

I have used mine since I got it, what seems like forever ago, and it has been a trooper through all the drops, breaks, and thousands of miles on the bike. Is this supposed to be street/dirt hybrid? If so, the energy absorbing materials are completely different for each helmet, I don't know what type of protection a compromise would be. Dirt is nice and soft while the road is much harder so they have to make the helmets different to compensate. I was reading a law book a while back that actually used an example where a kid got severely injured when he crashed his bike on the street with a dirt helmet (or vice versa, like I said, it was a while ago).

You're not their market. IMO, Penske, Elka and Race Tech offer some of the best quality/price ratio. Everyone and their brother wants the name Ohlins on their stuff so they have to reduce demand by increasing price.

Where, other than the title, does this tie into Obama? I see local and state governments, and possibly the judicial branch (certainly nothing direct). The title is more misleading than anything the article states.

Do you have a specific instance that you are thinking of where inheriting a home-built receiver was illegal? The law states that it cannot be "for sale". I don't know of any cases where people made one, and then later decided to sell it only to have the BATF show up. Although the BATF is notoriously inconstant, I recall seeing letters come back where they dance around the issue of the legality of selling, so long as the receiver was not built for the explicit attempt to sell (they don't answer yes or no, presumably because then you would have to prove intent which is a whole different can of worms). With that being as murky as it is, I would imagine an inheritance is quite a bit more clear cut since the "for profit" aspect is null. I certainly don't know much about inheritance, probate etc. so if it is completely different please correct me.

I stopped watching that movie at the 1:30 mark where they said the executive actions (sic) include "universal background checks as well as bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines." That is pretty early on in a "documentary" to be pushing blatant lies. Since I didn't watch it, I may be misinterpreting what you're saying, JStump, but if you print a lower it is still a lower and defined by the BATF as a gun (in the ar15's case) so he certainly can't sell it. I'll sit back and watch his anarchist ass gets put in a federal prison (ok, I watched a little further than the 1:30 mark).
