I soak myself in lamp oil, and then burn myself in front of the crowd. It works.

IBM’s Watson Supercomputer Set to Take On Jeopardy Champs
TSB67 replied to Disclaimer's topic in Dumpster
I hadn't considered that when I wrote that reply, but still, they say the computer takes three seconds to come up with whatever decision it is going to make, it seems a human would spend almost that much time accepting the "input." It seemed like the guy on the left eventually started just trying to beat the computer on the buzzer whether he knew the answer or not. Anyhow, not really bashing, just not surprised that a computer wins at this sort of game. -

Now I'm further unimpressed - I thought it was listening! How do they time that to make it fair? -

Just not impressed that a room-sized supercomputer can do that nowadays. I wish I had a job that was pure research. -

They spent four years tweaking a program to Google shit really fast? -
I'd spend my money elsewhere, but it is a sexy little unit. Doesn't look to be street friendly at all between the straight dump exhaust and the air filter location. You'd think something with such a narrow and outdated application range would be cheaper. Would have to see an actual power curve to judge if the performance is worthwhile.

This goes above their heads. I'm sure they're all thrilled with following these orders.

"the State of Georgia received $70,000.00 from the NSTB for Motorcycle ONLY Safety Check Points" They did this in Utah at the superbike races. Caused a major traffic CF that they ended up issuing an apology for. It involved stopping EVERY SINGLE motorcycle and giving them some sort of safety lecture among other things. Basically the out-of-touch-with-reality folks in the government who get paid to solve problems thought this would be an effective coutermeasure to motorcycle accident statistics. P.S. Here's a copy of an AMA release on Utah: http://www.amasupercross.com/viewamanews.aspx?id=2017

Phuckin RSS news feed topic spoilers... I know it's not Canard's first podium in that race that's on tape delay at noon tomorrow... I should have known better than to get on the internet tonight...

Took me awhile to think of what my resolution was but turns out I actually kept it - haven't played poker yet this year. It wasn't so much a New Year's resolution as it was a coincidentally timed realization that I continue to lose in the long run. I'm done donating.

Random thoughts: I know people that have gotten pulled over riding other people's bikes sans helmet/with passenger/on the freeway/etc because the plate was run and came back permit only. I've seen some people who were hit with some permit violation, got their license between then and their court date, and had their case dismissed. Not sure whether or not there were lawyers involved. It is free to take the skills test, you just pay whatever fee it is to get it added to your license after you pass, same as if you had your card from the MSF. If you fail the skills test, you have to wait seven days or so to take it again. A buddy of mine went a whole summer trying to pass and took the test what seemed like a dozen times. They used to allow and even encourage you to practice on the actual course as long as they weren't using it for testing at the moment. A good move is to go up and watch some other people test so you know what you'll need to do. I took the MSF and did the whole thing on a CB125T. I always wanted to go up there and try it on a 600 sportbike, I would hope I could do it now. My buddy mentioned above eventually got it on a GSXR600, and I know someone else who passed on a GSXR750, but most of the folks I know ended up borrowing a more tightly-maneuverable bike to use. Edit P.S. disclaimer - anything I know about this stuff is about 6 years old. Things may have changed...

I went there with ultra-low expectations and it was better than I though it would be. The sick part is any one of those guys would have gold medaled in a freestyle competition two years ago. Now they just throw down endless combo backflips at a rate that seems tiring without even coming close to screwing up. I really dug the side-by-side, three-wide and even the four-wide jump at the end. How bad-ass would it be to just straight hit one of those ramps with a dude backflipping next to you?

I love this pic. I'm not sure why. I think it has to do with the color of the pipe against everything else.

I'm supposed to be at R Bar around 4:30 if you want to meet up.

I'm the type of person who finds something that works and resists change. I've been using www.tinypic.com for probably over a decade.

When it hits 60+ I might head out to the garage and put the bike back to street... unless track days come first, like they did last year.

That's why you tell everybody they're "next in line."

Sorry, edited above while you were posting. Saturday is most likely out for me. I know those other guys were talking about going to the show too, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did both...
-
Was thinking about it since it looks like next week might kill it. It's been cold all week, it's only supposed to be above freezing for 2 hours on Saturday and not until 10am on Sunday - I don't think this weekend will be terminal. But what do I know, hoping to hear from some more experienced people. Unfortunately Saturday is pretty much out for me since I'm supposed to meet up downtown at 4:30 for "Nuclear Boyz Autocross."

Looks like japanese beetle green to me.

I typed "motocross" in a job seach engine for the hell of it and found this: "The group is seeking a fellowship trained orthopaedic trauma surgeon to cover a growing number of trauma cases. A nearby NASCAR speedway and two motocross tracks have contributed to the increase in trauma cases."

I already regret commenting on this thread, but just wanted to point out that I was talking 2009, PIT 9-7 CLE 5-11. At game 12 it was PIT 6-6 CLE 1-11. I guess for me it's just a hometown pride thing rather than about the teams themselves, and when the guy next door is waving a foreign flag and talking shit for attention, I just want him to STFU. Nothing against the real fans.

Steeler fans have always seemed particularily obnoxious to me, but I can't deny that I was more or less raised in Cleveland to hate Pittsburgh. I think a big part of it is that actually in Cleveland, a lot of Steeler "fans" seem to be that way just for the sake of being obnoxious. Like the Michigan "fans" in Columbus that just seem to be trolling for an arguement. I must say that two years ago I enjoyed watching Pittsburgh games more than Browns games, because there was a better chance of Pittsburgh losing than the Browns winning. Puck Fittsburgh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browns%E2%80%93Steelers_rivalry P.S. My feeling at the end of the Superbowl was more relief than anything else.

I'm headed there. It sounds kinda cheesy, but everyone keeps saying it's worth seeing. Basically choreographed shows are the direction promoters want to take freestyle motocross in hopes of avoiding catastrophic accidents...

Did this the past two years. Two years ago somebody bought me a Saturday ticket and I had a blast. Last year bought presale weekend floor tickets and between that, parking, alcohol, food and water, damn weekend cost me over $300. That left a bad taste in my mouth, but this year maybe I'll put some thought into how to do it on the cheap.
