  1. I'm completely disappointed in this board.  The first response, without doubt or hesitation, should have been "hookers and blow".

    You're all slipping.

Eat.   If I lived in TX, I'd be more overweight than I already am.

Is this a vacation thing, or a business-related thing?  Temporary, or moving there?

  2. I tried the DIY kit a few years ago, but I was trying to integrate a pair of earbuds into them.   I concentrated more on the sound quality, and it wasn't good.  I junked them.  I can't attest as to durability or noise reduction.

  3. No offense Cleve and not attacking you but where does this come from?

I keep hearing people say it? There are self defense shootings everyday and I've yet to hear anything about a specific round having anything to do with making or breaking the justification for use of deadly force?

    Also please define over-penetration

    This.

I need some edumacation, because I don't understand comments like this.  If I'm threatened and have to shoot someone, why does it reflect poorly on my defense if I'm carrying "an overly aggressive" round?  And how does one determine "overly aggressive"?    I target round may go through the person, and a defense round will hopefully expand within them (as intended).  Which is "too aggressive"?  And if someone is coming at me, why does it matter.  No matter what round I'm using, my intent/ hope is to stop him before he gets to me.

I'm not arguing either, but I am curious/ confused.

    Thx

  4. You boys are getting raped on propane. I bought my tank from Amerigas in the fall of '12. I just topped off last week for $2/gal.

I can't argue with you, and have researched buying my own tank.  We bought this house when it was two years old, and the builder must have made a deal with the propane company.  The price to buy and replace their tank is roughly equal to the amount of $$$ we'd save over the time we plan on staying here (I'd sell this house tomorrow if I could).

The whole "we own the tank, you have to buy from us" is bullcrap, PLUS I have to pay $50/ year to "rent" the tank.   I don't like it, but it is what it is.    I've shopped around here and there over the past few years as far as switching suppliers/ getting my own tank, and even in the middle of summer, I've never seen less than $2.39/ gallon.

    You're a lucky man.

  5. We're on a heat pump with propane back-up, which can be a PITA, but at least I can "see" how much fuel we're using (and its nauseating).   Called my propane guy earlier this morning to ask about pricing.  Typically about $2.49/ gallon +/-.  Its now $4.39.  The house is now cooler than typical...

There are going to be a LOT of people with sticker shock when they get their natural gas bill next month.  They have no idea how much they're using daily, nor what the cost will be.

On the bright side, he said that this weather is supposed to break next week, and that Feb is supposed to be warmer than typical, so hang in there.

Yeah, a wood stove would be nice.

  6. YES!    I imported a couple of KSR80's (two stroke) a few years ago (have since sold them) just as they were coming out with the KSR110 (four-stroke).   Took the 80s to MidOhio for Superbike weekend one year.   They were a blast.    Big aftermarket already available for these because this version has been available in Japan for years and years now, and to bring it to the states would (seemingly) just be a matter of ramping up production.

I dealt with a lot of mini's, and was always amazed at the lack of street legal minis that came to the states.  Yamaha got it right with the YSR50 by making it street legal.  Suzuki failed big-time by not making the GSXR50 street legal.   Honda, Kaw, Suz already had street-legal compliant mini's in Japan, and it seemed like it would have been an easy transition to bring them to the states.   When Honda brought the Dream 50 and NSR50 to the states, they should have kept the lights and such on them, like they made them in Japan.

Though I'd much rather have the two-stroke version of any of these bikes, I'm happy to see them finally coming to our shores.

  7. Wasn't a point about religion, was about a stupid comment that has nothing to do with running a business... He may as well have said

"we're a company owned by a guy with type 3 diabetes, who owns a John Deere, and who enjoys long walks on the beach, kissing in the rain, and singing show tunes..."

The only impact christianity has on business is that you're forbidden to charge interest to God's people for loans.

Not a point about religion?  Really?  Seemed to be your sole point.

They're more than welcome to list that the owner has diabetes, or whatever.

I see no fault or issue that they offer themselves as a Christian-owned business, and as a Christian, I welcome it.

It is my "go-to" shop since Southside in Dayton closed down.   There's a closer shop to me, but I won't set foot in the place, not even if I'm just browsing, because of their reputation for ripping people off, and the attitudes I got when I DID go in there.

The folks all through CCM are ALWAYS friendly, and seem to enjoy what they do.  They don't stalk me as I'm walking around, they don't push product on me.  They answer my questions, chat, and leave me be.   The dollar doesn't seem to be the sole focus, vs. the other shop.   The employees at CCM seem to stick around awhile, which may mean that they feel they're in a "good place" that treats them fairly.   If they're having a bad day, you'd never know it.

I like 'em.  I support 'em.   Most of that is just the "feel" of the shop overall, and part of that "feel" is the employees and owners.

I'm glad that they put it out there that they're a Christian business.  More power to them.   They make all of us look better.  I'm not saying that all good people must be Christian (or Jewish, or anything else).  I'm not saying that if you're not connected with God then you're  not trustworthy and reliable.  I'm not saying that everyone in church is doing what they're supposed to be doing (nor not doing what they're not supposed to be doing).   None of that.   I'm saying that dealing with a business which presents itself as faith-based is a comfort to me.

CCM doesn't have Jesus fish all over the place, nor scripture anywhere in the building (not that I've seen).  They don't include a pocket Bible with every purchase.  They don't push it on anyone, and its not blatant except in the way they treat people, and thats not a bad thing.

  8. Our house is about 10 years old, and has a "majority basement" except for a tongue under the half-bath and laundry room, at the right rear of the basement.  I despise the builder for doing this (we're not the original owners).  Our crawlspace is about 24-30" tall, about 5' wide, and about 12' deep (front to back).  Its accessed via a "hole" at the top edge.  I climb in using a ladder or standing on a 5-gallon bucket.

I tested for radon in the basement shortly after we moved in, and it came out at about 9 (IIRC).  The top level for radon is supposed to be around 4 (I think.  Its been 8 years...).   We surmised that the radon was coming through the "crawlspace" area, seeping up through the gravel that they had laid down.

I got a radon fan off of ebay and ran the tubing, including a "feed" from the nearby sump pump pit (since radon seeps in through the drain curtain lines as well).

After the system had run for a couple of days, we re-tested and came in at .6 on the radon reader.

For the crawlspace (CS), I framed out a floor with 2x6" untreated boards, and laid a 1/2" plywood floor.  Needed the tall 2x6 joists because I needed to bore holes in them to run the pvc throughout, and so no area was blocked-off.   I put sheet plastic on top of the plywood floor, sealed the edges of the sheet plastic onto the concrete walls, and we now use it for storage bins and other stuff we don't need to access often.

Works for us.  We don't have any insulation between the floor joists (for the first floor) in ours.

Note: for a "true" CS (which ours is not.  Thats just what we call it), like one which is under a whole house, the exterior vents are critical.  There MUST be flow under there, regardless of the weather.  Moisture and radon can build up.  The moisture causes havoc, and the radon (and other stuff) can seep into the house.   Mold and radon can cause all kinds of health issues.

  9. So then whoever administers the lethal injection should die by lethal injection, right?

Wow.  Really?    He is providing a service.  He didn't rape and murder someone.   If its found that he did something heinous, he should die by the same method.   The convicted murderer/ rapist committed a crime. The executioner did not.   How you can consider the two as "equal" is beyond me.   The rapist/ murderer is not a victim.

If one were to follow your logic, no criminal could ever be convicted unless they were "judged" and sentenced by someone who committed the same offense, and neither of them could then be punished.

Justice has to be exacted somehow, else there is anarchy.   Liberals want more laws, restrictions and oversight, but then argue that the offenders shouldn't be punished.  "They just need to be rehabilitated".  Okay.  Let them come live with said liberals, in their homes with their wives and daughters, until the rehab is complete.

  10. Pain, lethality, clean-up

with all but the lethal injection and rope (assuming the head doesn't come clean off), you're going to have a nasty clean up to do afterwards...

Put a big plastic bag underneath him when he hangs.   Let him drip or ooze whatever his body wants to, into the open mouth of the bag lying on the floor.   Two young inmates, in prison for relatively minor infractions, then get to pull the bag up over the body and tie it off.  This may act as a deterrent for them convicting more heinous acts.   Then cut the rope, let him slam to the floor.  Pick up the bag, dispose of the body.  No hoses, no disinfectant, no floor drains needed.    Use the bags that king-size mattresses come in.   Can't be more than a couple $$$ each.

    "Next one!".

Too many appeals.   One appeal should be the max.

  11. Price drop:  $75

No crash damage (i.e. uncrashed).  Clear shield has some scratches on it which don't hinder vision or functionality.   I got a new lid from Nathan at RD, and need to clear a space in my queue.   This is from about 1996 and is still solid.   Size XL.  Original owner, and stored indoors.   The bottom front rubber trim piece is trying to come off, and I have lightly Goop-ed it.   To cover my tail, I'll say that this is being sold as a collector piece and the buyer should use their own discretion in using it on the road due to its age.

TRIVIA:  Anyone here know what the 66 sticker symbolizes?

  12. I need to move into the new house first and see how much room I'll have.

Wasn't it like forty bazillion square feet, or something like that??

    ;)

Get the lift.   Mines worked great for years.  I initially wanted the more expensive version which they used to offer because it could accommodate their "wings" to make it wider for ATVs and mowers.   Instead I use a sheet of plywood at 48" wide and cut the length to match the lift (about 7', IIRC).  Four 3/8" bolts (one near each corner) keeps it secured, and is easily removable to make the lift narrow again.  Best bike money I've ever spent.   With your ATV plow, it also makes it easier to work on the quad, like to mount and unmount the plow mount (huh??).  I drilled holes to accommodate my pop chock, and never used the crank tire holder which they include.   Storage:  Just put a bike up on it in the garage.  This thing is heavy.  I thought about tilting it on its side and leaning against the garage wall, like someone mentioned, but that would only save a foot or so.  I view  it as a better use of space to store a bike on it.
