I'm looking at mixing up the stable a bit as my riding needs have changed. I'm looking for a bike good for longer 2-up riding and sell at least my 05 SV, possibly my 02 or my Tuono, but not both. I'm not brand specific but I'm thinking a sport tourer or light-to-medium cruiser with good suspension, brakes, and tire options would be up my alley. It needs to be nimble enough to navigate SoCal rush hour traffic (we're talking lane sharing here) but still have room that my girlfriend won't complain about spending several hours on the highway either. And it's gotta have boxes for luggage. No scooters. Ligher is better in this case. I'm not a fan of huge heavy bikes. I haven't settled on a budget and don't know if I want new or used. Just looking for ideas right now.

I just read that the other day. That was pretty exciting for us and we were sooo close to being there when it happened. Hopefully the discovery doesn't inspire a bunch of dumbasses to go and then move the rocks themselves.

As an aside, are there any action cameras on the market that DO NOT record in .mov format?
-
That sucks for the owner but the joke may be on the thief seeing how troubled the bike was.

Interesting idea, but not for me. Might be good for doing donuts, but after that I wouldn't bother. I'm guessing you'll see a lot of them in the ditch with over exuberant retirees bleeding from the mouth.

FS: Soon to be for sale 2001 Dutchmen Toy Hauler - 30ft
wantahertzdonut replied to madcat6183's topic in Other Stuff
Just found your posting and was going to chime in that it's a nice setup, almost as nice as mine! Did you purchase your 5th wheel? I'll be looking to do the same down the road, I have a job offer and plan to build my next toy hauler. Sticks, staples, and wishes don't make for great trailers. -
Good gear is also adjustable. Buy the smallest size that will fit, and make sure there's room to cinch it up as you lose lbs. Make sure it's not so snug that it cuts off circulation in your arms, it's no fun! Also, be aware that there is a ton of junk out there. This is what I wear You can get it custom fitted to your exact measurements, and it's made out of 1000wt Cordura. It has vents, reflective piping, and armor all around. I couldn't find anything in the stores that had all 3 of those items, and then the heaviest material was 500wt Cordura. Plus it's super adjustable. I haven't tested it, but have much more confidence in this equipment than the Joe Rocket stuff you see in every store.

I happened to return to Silver City this past weekend and took a few pics of the good parts of Rt. 15 while driving. Again, no traffic, no cops, great views.

We just passed one year and one week today since we left Cleveland. Never would have guessed we'd be where we are right now on that day. The blog is in process still, however Wordpress "improved their site" (read: they removed some features to "make it easier", but in turn made it more of a pain in the ass) so I'm in need of relearning how to upload in a manner I like. We're still in Phoenix, but I have a lot of stories to write about our time in New Mexico, and I'll include a little on our trip back to Cleveland, and the adventure of moving all our stuff out here.

I live in Phoenix, I ride in full gear (1000wt cordura pants, jacket, full face helmet, leather gloves, riding boots). Good gear breathes. Most important thing is stay hydrated. Ride in places where you move constantly, not stop and go. If you can't handle it, go home asap and chug Gatorade. (I have a can of the powder at home all the time). Remember, its much less painful, and much less expensive to sweat than it is to bleed.

Why is everyone bothering to mention torque curves while riding 2up? I've ridden 2up around town on a 250, it was fine! A 600 will not sweat a bit.

I would have guessed the stripe on the tail section of the Ducati was crooked until you said the photo was about your bike

I've been riding 2 up on my sv650 for years without issue. I have Givi saddle bags to. Highway, twisties, even a little off road. We've rode up to 12 hours in a day without too much fuss. Someone mentioned Bandits, and I can say it'll suck 2 up. I had one for a couple years and 2up was no fun. It's one long seat and she'll slide forward all the time smashing your nuts up against the tank. Preventing that will put yours and her weight into your arms which makes riding quite difficult too. Lots of helmet kisses as well.

CycleGear is having a bike night tonight 6-7-14 NEO 5-8pm
wantahertzdonut replied to DerekClouser's topic in Events
I don't know how similar it would be, but I went to a Cycle Gear bike night in Mesa, AZ 2 weeks ago and it was actually nice. They have decent sales on stuff during the event, raffles (I won a chain breaker kit) and slow drags (winner got a $50 gift card to the store). Way more fun than the leather gayness at the QS&L gatherings. -
And electric motor can be used as a generator when you're not supplying power to it. It's not anything new to use the motor to recharge the batteries when you're not at full throttle or coasting. It doesn't do much, but the technology existed on my remote control cars in the early 90's. I'm sure they're doing the same on these bikes, as it'll add +/-5% to your battery life. I think the KERS systems on F1 cars also did something to that effect. Adding an extra generator would only drain the battery faster because it would add drag to the system. It wouldn't make it a perpetual motion machine.

What is red death? Excess chain lube? -
Sure would, and would be awesome too!

Powercoating looks nice! I wish I could find something like that for my Tuono

I don't think we'll be doing any tours on electric bikes anytime soon, or at least no tours in quick time. (for example, I did read about a guy who rode a Zero or Brammo from Key West to CA, but took 2 weeks to do it) If you have a range of 100 miles, that's more than enough for 99% of us to get to and from work with power to spare, then you can charge at home overnight. Or once or twice a week if that's all you're using the bike for. I wouldn't have any issue with that. Even then, I'd say 80% of my rides were 75 miles or less, so I would still be happy with a 100 mi range. They're not for everyone, but I think they get an artificially bad rap. And nobody is forcing anyone to buy one.

Fairly Big News for Road Racing in the U.S.
wantahertzdonut replied to Hollywood33's topic in Track is Crack
Who is running the AMA SX/MX series? And why aren't they at the helm of the road racing? Given what's left of the AMA series, anything as an alternative is a good thing. Plus it shows that the people putting these events on know there is an interest in the US to support it. I'll be very interested to see who prevails. Whatever happens, we should be out supporting them. About TV, I hope they all have a streaming option online, because I refuse to buy cable tv, let alone pay for added packages so I can get the one channel I'd want (something about paying for a service that only shows me commercials turns me off) Truth be told I'd watch any series I can get my hands on. I still even catch the AMA races when I'm on a decent internet connection and still enjoy them. But if WERA or Dorna can do better, then that benefits us all. -
I'd buy one just to piss off the Fags. "I have a Harley too!" -"multiple middle fingers"
-
Cool to see they're getting their claws around everything involved on the bike. I can't say I'll be in the market for one, but I'm glad it'll be out there.

Funny that Gabe Ets-Hoken is doing something for another magazine than his own. I hope City Bike isn't going under! About the bike, I kinda like it. But it does look very busy. I wonder what it weighs, and who is making their engines?
