  1. I have an '06 R1 and on the track last weekend I downshifted to 1st and hit neutral instead and couldn't get it into 1st. I checked her over and everything seemed fine so I chalked it up to just being a lazy shift. Next session on the front straight I couldn't shift up past 3rd. and then it happened again and hit Neutral and had a tough time getting it out of N. Cut the session early and put her on a stand to see if I could shift it. It gt stuck in N but after a couple of attempts seemed OK, but I still couldn't get it up into 4th. This happened once before and the culprit was my Vortex rearsets' shift rod was pinching on the hole where the rod goes through my frame. After I adjusted that I never had a problem again until the track. I've checked the shift rod again since I've been home and all seems fine. Even disconnected from the rearset and still couldn't shift it up past 3rd. i've searched the all-knowing world wide web and came up with several suggestions that seemed to resolved similar issues: chain too tight rearsets needs adjusted bad oil Chain is within in spec although the tech inspection said it was too tight. I figured on the track they like it looser than the street. As mentioned, rearsets seem fine Oil was changed less than 800 miles ago. Level is in spec although it does seem prematurely dirty. The only thing I can think of is that I laid the bike down in the mud on my first track session of the previous day. But it was a VERY slow lay down in very soft mud. And the rest of that day was fine with no issues. Wondering if this is a bent tab on the shift shaft or the shaft itself. I also have a yoyodyne slipper clutch if that matters. Wondering if I need to pull the clutch and see if the friction plates and steel plates need replaced. Any suggestions on what to look at would be appreciated. i figured I'd start with the chain adjustment, another look at the rearsets, and then start pulling out the shift shat
  2. My first track day I rode out there, BUT, I was meeting friends. I could have had them take my wrecked bike home. I wouldn't recommend it. I felt like a mooch since they had to provide a lot of things for me like extra gas, a chair, tools, etc. But as people have mentioned, track riders are extra nice bunch. As were myfriends. They just wanted me to get the addiction along with them so they were very obliging...and it worked. Best way to do it is go with some other experienced people. Even total strangers will make the experience that much better so they can give you tips for on and off the track. ...unless of course they try to have prison-sex with you...then this advice is not so good. ...just-kidding. they're all nice so they'll at least give you a reach around.
  3. A good time indeed. My first track day of the year. Grattan was where I popped my track cherry a few years ago so it's always got a special place in my heart. To be honest, I've always struggled on that track. I ride an R1 and bought it before I did my first track day so I've struggled. I know it goes against everything they say about a 600 is the better tool, especially on a track like Grattan. It'll improve my riding quicker and all that...but can't really afford a dedicated track bike and I don't want to trade her either. Day one was a roller coaster ride for me in the I group. I was the stupid one who gets to claim the first red flag. I setup the Bustop turn to wide and didn't trust my tires. So I decided to commune with nature and just take a cruise in the grass. Although the brochure lied and it was actually marsh land. I kept it up for about 40 yards or so with the bike slipping all over the place. Then got about 10 feet from track I looked back to see if the track was clear and then decided to see if I could do a 180 and give my baby a rest on her side. After that I struggled most of the morning. By the last two sessions I got back in the groove and got all the new reference points figured out. Started laying down pucks instead of the bike in a few turns. Started to brake later and take turns 1, 2, 5 and 7 quicker. A great way to end the day. Day two I had to relearn the track all over again and couldn't figure out what gears I needed to be in. The blind turns do seem a bit more scary to me going CCW! started to get the groove again. THen I hit neutral going into the bustop (now my least favorite corner) so did a little more off-roading again, but got back on right away. This day ended early for me though. Somthing is fubar'd with my shifter. I cant get it to shift into 4th, 5th or 6th gear and it's bitch to get out of nuetral. I'm gonna have to look over my bike real good. ANy siggestions on what to look at would be good would be welcomed. I assume it is somthing that is not engaging the transmission. Regardless, a great weekend. Best improvements for me personally, but always humbling when I become a sandwich and get passed by two people on either side of me...going into a turn...good times... Anyway, it was good seeing my friends from Michigan, Good seeing Jinu and talking to him throughout the weekend. From our camping spot I watched him pick off people in the A group one-by-one. Pretty impressive. Now got to get my bike sorted out and plan the next track day! HOOT!
  4. Vacation time for me is too precious for weekday events. Will have to consider one eventually though...
  5. I'm Super-Duper Pumped! Sat looks good. Sunday still iffy...
  6. what brand sprocket is it? is there at least a spacer or built in metal grommet on one side? When I changed my front sprocket, the OEM had a metal spacer built in. Although the pictures and logo's showed it should be in one way, it had to be the other way otherwise it would not line up.
  7. T-Storms and 60-61 degrees both days. I'm SO glad I already paid...oh well...
  8. yeah, for such a long haul, might as well do 2 days and get your money's worth. Just wish the shower facilities were updated. Well I'm pumped for it. Sat mostly sunny but high of 58. Sunday is still calling for rain. Got to get a small generator so I can plug in a small space heater.
  9. oh man! daughter's birthday party at chucky cheeses. I'm out
  10. I have a 2-piece as well. It was mainly because I had trouble finding a good fit for my almost-Adonis-like build. I have a long (and well-rounded) torso with very short legs. I say like a bulldog, wife say more like a fat basset hound...W.E. I ended up getting an A* jacket and then got separate A* leather pants. It still doesn't fit perfect, but better than any one piece I've tried. Someday I'll get some custom sized Pilot leathers...or I could save some money and hit the gym...yeah, who am I kidding....probably the custom leathers built for a basset hound...
  11. I love CCW. It's like a whole different track. Turn three (?) with the off-camber tighter turn downhill is so different going uphill. Also I like Turn 1 into the front straight CCW. Only bad thing is you have to "re-learn" the track on Sunday. almost 2 tracks in one weekend though!
  12. ehh...no need to convince you. You can't go wrong with the 2CTs for sure. STG has the best prices on them. jakewilson.com has good tire prices. OEM parts are overpriced, but tires are well priced. Personally, I haven't ridden the Pirelli DR's. I've had the old Dunflop 208s that pretty much put me on my ass. I had the Pirelli Strada's. It was their Sport touring model on my YZF600R. Got about 10k miles on them and rode through MANY T-Storms on the highway and never had so much as a slip. of course I rode for the conditions. Had the Pilot Powers when I got my R1. Not that impressed with them. It would start to slide when I just hit the traction limits. Didn't like that I wasn't getting as much warning. After that I put on Pirelli DCIII. These baby would send me postcard before it started to reach it's traction limits. I went into a corner too hot once and started to lock up my rear tires. I eased off and she picked up the road and kept on going. Samething when hitting a patch of gravel. It slid and grabbed back up so fast I didn't even realize what happened until it was over. The new Pirelli DRC is supposed to have a better profile for quicker turn ins which is probably my only complaint on the the DCIII. Also the high price tag could use a new marketing plan. 2CTs and Q2's all have had great reviews. For me, the Pirellis got me out of two potentially expensive and painful situations so I'm a little brand loyal to them. just my opinion.
  13. you're on a fine italian work of art. ever consider pirellis? I love my DCIII, but they replaced with Diablo Rosso Corsa or you can try the the Diablo Rossos.
  14. WOW. I already use Amsoil on the bike, but will continue to for sure...
  15. You can make your own... http://www.ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=70646&highlight=carb+sync
  16. I dunno guys. I'm not an angel by any means. I have a litre bike too. maybe I'm old fart who is married with kids, but riding triple digits on public roads is foolish at best. Your available reaction time to a soccer mom switching lanes or bambi trotting out on a back road will be non-existent. Again, I'm no innocent preacher man, but spring time is here, but cagers' awareness is not. just becareful and really think if that extra 20 mph is really going to make a difference. Otherwise get to a track. Then when you open her up to 150 mph and get passed by a 600cc bike, you'll see what real fun is. just my honest opinion. stay safe guys...we've got a lot of time to ride, just make sure you can ride the whole time.
  17. heard hey did a lot more resurfacing! $285 for the weekend bundle. camping on site! Wife is already pissed at me. I've got this one paid for, planning for MO in July, Gingerman in August. Still want to get a Nelson Ledges and Beaverrun in also. That would be the most I've ever done in one season so I'll be happy if I get at lest 3 or 4.
  18. I'm meeting some friends in Grattan for the weekend track day. CW on Sat and then CCW on Sunday. HOOT! Anyone heading out there? Look for the 50th R1 holding up the pack in Intermediate and that'll be me.
  19. well, i'm out. weather is iffy. hope to make the May date.
  20. LMAO!! literally LOL. My 5 year old son just asked me what's so funny... ...then I said, no worries son, we're asian.
