It's been happening before Obama. Or before the Patriot Act.

In a press release from his office, Sensenbrenner, who has claimed that there were sufficient civil liberties protections in place to guard against potential abuse of the law, called the NSA’s seizure of Americans’ phone records “excessive and Un-American.” He has also urged Congress to amend the PATRIOT Act to prevent future abuse.

There’s no getting around it — the interpretation of the law is simply inconsistent with the Fourth Amendment, at least what we know of the intent, according to Sensenbrenner.

i rode mine a bit yesterday after shaving, adding a bit of rebond, shaping, then a layer of soft open cell. i have my nut and hip issue fixed. now i just need to tigten up the vinyl on it.

My trusty G2 isn't so trusty anymore. It's held together with tape and superglue. The screen goes purple when you put any amount of bending force on it. it's old. I'm on T-Mobile, and they're plans are ever getting shittier.

Now they have "no contract" plans, but since I already signed a contract, and renewed it to lower my price... I'm stuck until november 2014. Buying from T-Mobile would not only be balls expensive, it would add to my bill. My "free upgrade" I qualified for vanished when they changed their shit around.

I plan to drop them asap. But, I need a phone that will actually load my apps.  How does it work to buy one on Craigslist? Will my contract have to renew? Will they charge me? I'm pretty wary of all the scams and idiots on there, so idk. 

well, not all of us have useful mirrors on our bikes...

What do you do with the cord? I cut mine off because I didn't want it flopping or stuffed in my helmet.

quiet helmets can be cheap. it's all about the material and the ventilation. less ventilation means less air flowing inside, and less wind noise transferring. but, the material properties also affect how much the whole thing vibrates. lighter shtuff should be louder. so, get a cheap one. I know when i "upgraded" to the bell from the scorpion, the wind seemed twice as loud. my exo-1000 was pretty quiet. the exo-400, after figuring out the annoying ass whistle was quiet too.

This is technically a review of earplugs. Just wanted to say that I think I'll use them now. 

So, I got off the bike the other day after a pretty long stint on the highway, and my ears were ringing. I've never had this happen before. I'm still new to the Triumph, so maybe it has something to do with its aerodynamics, combined with my loud ass Bell helmet. 

I've been anti-plugs since I started riding a few years ago. Not that I don't think they're safe. I have read the facts just like everybody else. I just think my aversion was due to the extra step in getting ready to ride. I'm ATGATT, so it takes me a minute or two, in comparison to just throwing on shorts and flip flops to hop in the cage. 

So, I decided to try to attenuate some noise in my helmet by modifying the ear pads. I bought some open cell foam, after reading it was supposedly better at sound insulation than closed cell. Cut thicker pieces, that didn't do anything. Wrapping them in electrical tape seemed to do a little more, compared to using just the regular pad as a control. I also read about fighters using thin lead sheets to damp acoustics or something like that, so I double-sided some 3/4" washers to the inside of the plastic in the helmet. supposedly the density jump does something. Makes sense, but I couldn't really tell a difference. 

ANYWHO, I decided to try earplugs. I'll make it a habit from here on. Big difference in highway wind noise. And really not much difference without the bike on. The helmet already muffles a little, so they just combine with that. If you're not sure about trying them, like I was, it can't hurt. At least not as much as not trying them. 

I sooo want this. If only I was in the market. BUMP

So, I have some new gloves. My Helds have been wearing worse since I wrecked in them, and busted both palm chunks of Superfabric.

I bought the black Recon gloves from Sportbiketrackgear for $100. http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=6963 They've been running this sale for a little bit, and I figured I'd put the wedding money to good use. Can't justify spending much more than this, especially in my current situation, but I do justify my safety.

SIZING: I have an 8.5 circumference around my knuckles, or metacarpals. The sizing chart reads 8" is small, 9" is medium. 

When I called, the guy told me to get a large. I was all sorts of confused. I got a medium, and it is perfect. Snug, but that's how I like my gloves. I hate when the palm bunches, or the tips are too long. Medium is just right.

COMFORT: The video review on stg praises the between finger ventilation, and so do I. You definitely feel it when you rest your fingers on the levers. There's no ventilation for the back of the hand, but the finger air does a pretty good job of keeping me from sweating too much, but I haven't rode in sweltering weather yet, as it's been good ole rainy Ohio lately. The only thing is, with all the perforation, I don't expect the sides to last if my finger were to get twisted, pinned under me as I slid.

I also want to mention the dexterity. I feel like I can handle my phone, keys, wallet, etc a lot easier with these than my old Helds. That means the leather is seemingly a little thinner, but I'd trust these to save my nails for at least one get-off. I enjoy the ability to buckle my helmet after putting on my gloves. 

The Boa lacing thing is nifty, but I don't see any "improvement" over velcro or zippers. They both pull the wrist area closed. The boa always wants to pull one side just a little tighter than the other, but I believe it is made to. The location where the pads connect to the bottom of the glove is closer to your thumb than your pinky. I think this is because most people will hit on the palm side of the pinky pad area. This puts the big "Guide Shroud" plastic pad directly over that portion. Maybe gauntlet gloves would be a little clunkier if they had the plastic wrist protectors and velcro, so the Boa allows it all to fit better. I'm just speculating here, though. The metal strings of the Boa system do seem strong. I tried to pinch one with my nail to kink it like a wire, but it was unphased. The Boa is also pretty light, so it's not really bad. Just different to me. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

For $100, these were the most glove I could find. Lots of protection, with good ventilation. Excellent finger length and overall snug sizing. The Boa is functional, and I have no doubts in its ability to endure. Maybe unnecessary, but it works. For my commuting riding, these are perfect. As the stg review said, they're not for racing, but you get a lot of those features.

humid, but cold air blowing is good. hence the icepack nestled on a soaked towel in a bowl right in front of the window.

So, I am refusing to turn the A/C on. I'm a scrooge. Don't tell me to, because I will ignore you.

But, I am ventilating/insulating when appropriate. If it's much cooler in the house, I'll close it up, and keep lights off. When temps start to equalize, I'll get airflow and cold water for the cooling effect.

Now, for the question:

My box fans are 20". My windows are ~37" wide. The extra 17" of width is just allowing air to swoosh back the opposite direction. Should I cut out a cardboard rectangle to cover that up? 

Makes sense to me, as I can get a pretty good breeze, because these fans are on opposite sides of the upstairs. I alternate direction based on wind if it's strong, or whichever side of our brick walls is hotter.
